Preface

tibbr® is the first workplace communication tool with which you can follow subjects that relate to your work and interests besides following people as you do in typical social networking applications. That way, you have much more flexibility in obtaining the right information at the right time in the right context. In fact, the information will find you.

Typographical Conventions

The following typographical conventions are used in this document.

Table 1 General Typographical Conventions

Convention Use

ENV_NAME

TIBCO_HOME

ProductAcronym_HOME

TIBCO products are installed into an installation environment. A product installed into an installation environment does not access components in other installation environments. Incompatible products and multiple instances of the same product must be installed into different installation environments.

An installation environment consists of the following properties:

• Name Identifies the installation environment. This name is referenced in documentation as ENV_NAME. On Microsoft Windows, the name is appended to the name of Windows services created by the installer and is a component of the path to the product shortcut in the Windows Start > All Programs menu.

• Path The folder into which the product is installed. This folder is referenced in documentation as TIBCO_HOME.

TIBCO ProductName installs into a directory within TIBCO_HOME. This directory is referenced in documentation as ProductAcronym_HOME. The default value of ProductAcronym_HOME depends on the operating system. For example, on Windows systems, the default value is C:\tibco\ProductAcronym\ReleaseNumber.

code font Code font identifies commands, code examples, file names, path names, and output displayed in a command window. For example:

Use MyCommand to start the foo process.

bold code font Bold code font is used in the following ways:

• In procedures, to indicate what a user types. For example: Type admin.

• In large code samples, to indicate the parts of the sample that are of particular interest.

• In command syntax, to indicate the default parameter for a command. For example, if no parameter is specified, MyCommand is enabled: MyCommand [enable | disable]

tibbr, tibbr Service, tibbr Community, and tibbr Community Service Release Notes

Page 7: tibbr and tibbr Service Release Notes - Tibco

Preface | vii

italic font Italic font is used in the following ways:

• To indicate a document title. For example: See TIBCO ActiveMatrix BusinessWorks Concepts.

• To introduce new terms For example: A portal page may contain several portlets. Portlets are mini-applications that run in a portal.

• To indicate a variable in a command or code syntax that you must replace. For example: MyCommand PathName

Key combinations Key name separated by a plus sign indicate keys pressed simultaneously. For example: Ctrl+C.

Key names separated by a comma and space indicate keys pressed one after the other. For example: Esc, Ctrl+Q.

The note icon indicates information that is of special interest or importance, for example, an additional action required only in certain circumstances.

The tip icon indicates an idea that could be useful, for example, a way to apply the information provided in the current section to achieve a specific result.

The warning icon indicates the potential for a damaging situation, for example, data loss or corruption if certain steps are taken or not taken.

Table 1 General Typographical Conventions (Cont’d)

Convention Use

Table 2 Syntax Typographical Conventions

Convention Use

[ ] An optional item in a command or code syntax.

For example:

MyCommand [optional_parameter] required_parameter

| A logical OR that separates multiple items of which only one may be chosen.

For example, you can select only one of the following parameters:

MyCommand para1 | param2 | param3

tibbr, tibbr Service, tibbr Community, and tibbr Community Service Release Notes

Page 8: tibbr and tibbr Service Release Notes - Tibco

viii | Typographical Conventions

{ } A logical group of items in a command. Other syntax notations may appear within each logical group.

For example, the following command requires two parameters, which can be either the pair param1 and param2, or the pair param3 and param4.

MyCommand {param1 param2} | {param3 param4}

In the next example, the command requires two parameters. The first parameter can be either param1 or param2 and the second can be either param3 or param4:

MyCommand {param1 | param2} {param3 | param4}

In the next example, the command can accept either two or three parameters. The first parameter must be param1. You can optionally include param2 as the second parameter. And the last parameter is either param3 or param4.

MyCommand param1 [param2] {param3 | param4}

New Features

This section describes the new features by release.

Release 5.0.0Release 5.0.0 contains the following new features:

• tibbr for Salesforce.com app With the new tibbr for Salesforce.com app (also called the tibbr Salesforce app), you can perform various Salesforce-related tasks, such as viewing, sorting, or commenting on Salesforce records, and viewing record details.

Note: This app requires a separate license.

• tibbr Tasks app With the new tibbr Tasks app, you can perform various project-related tasks, such as viewing creating, editing, or deleting projects; creating, editing, or deleting task lists or tasks; and inviting colleagues to be project members.

Note: This app requires a separate license.

• Enhancements in tibbr Ideas (previously called tibbr Ideation) app tibbr now displays similar ideas with matching keywords. In addition, you can do the following:

— Post ideas to subjects instead of categories. That way, you can share ideas privately through private subjects. Administrators can continue to triage ideas through categories.

— Create an idea from any post by choosing More > Apps > Create Idea.

— Specify idea categories.

— Filter ideas by contributor.

Note: This app requires a separate license.

• Enhancements in tibbr Files app The tibbr Files app now offers more capabilities: previewing files, copying file links, and viewing file properties.

• Enhancements on Apps page The Apps page, which you access by clicking Explore Apps in the Apps tab in the left panel, now contains three main tabs at the top: My Apps, Company Apps, and Marketplace Apps.

• Mobile-ready option for apps While creating or editing apps, you can specify in the settings whether they are available for mobile devices.

• Rich-text support in email template The email notifications that you receive for tibbr posts now have text formatting.

New Features | 3

• Hashtags Hashtags in the form of #one-word-string enable you to collect posts that contain similar content. While you are typing a hashtag, tibbr lists those tags with similar words from which you can choose one as desired.

• tibbr Developer Center The tibbr Developer Center, accessible as a left-panel tab on the tibbr home page, offers many resources to app developers for tibbr: a comprehensive rundown of the concepts, procedures, and APIs, along with tutorials.

Note: This feature requires a separate license.

• My Posts tab A My Posts tab, configured by the administrator, is now available as the second tab under Main Wall in the left panel. Before, you could view your posts in the Posts tab on the My Profile page only.

• New gadgets Three new gadgets (Popular Conversations, Popular Subjects, and What’s Happening) are now available.

• Enhancements in UI We’ve beefed up the user interface, including the following:

— A green icon labeled New next to the poster’s name makes a new post more conspicuous.

— A thin orange line at the top of the post denotes that the subject is private.

— On subject pages, tibbr displays the drop-down menu for Private Post and Public Post at the bottom of the Post to area. That way, you can also make private posts to users from subject pages.

— If you access tibbr’s email notifications on a mobile device, the links to users, subjects, and posts open on that device.

— On a mouse-over of a subject, tibbr displays its description.

— On the Leaderboard page under Insight in the left panel, tibbr displays the description on a mouse-over of a person’s name.

— If you click the link to an app on tibbr but have not yet enabled that app, tibbr displays a dialog box (see below for an example) for that purpose.

4 | Release Notes

— tibbr now displays bigger and higher-resolution images within posts. Multiple images attached to a post or reply are shown in a wide-album format with the total image count as an overlay.

— The home-page banner stays at the top while you are scrolling on tibbr.

— Instead of a green bubble to denote the loading progress of the home page, tibbr now displays a green progress bar at the top.

— tibbr ensures that you do not accidentally close the left panel when you move the mouse from a tab there to its pane. This enhancement smooths out the navigation of the tabs.

— If you navigate to another area while composing a post, tibbr prompts you to confirm, thus ensuring that you do not lose the text you have typed.

• Enhancements in performance The following operations are now faster:

— Logins

— Wall scrolling

— Switches between tabs

— Access of subjects

• Support for Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6.4 tibbr now also runs on RHEL 6.4.

• New configuration parameter for support of multiple browser tabs in tibbr Chat A new parameter, support_mutiple_browser_tabs (Chat > Multiple Browser Tabs in the application configuration manager) is available to support multiple browser tabs for tibbr Chat.

• New SharePoint Web Parts We have added three SharePoint Web Parts: Popular Conversations, Popular Subjects, and What’s Happening.

New Features | 5

• Turkish version tibbr is now available in Turkish, making a total of 11 language versions for tibbr: Chinese (Simplified), Dutch, English, French, French (Canada), German, Japanese, Portuguese (Brazilian), Spanish (Mexican), Swedish, and Turkish.

Release 4.1.2Release 4.1.2 contains four new utilities. You can run globally_subscribe or globally_unsubscribe to make applications that you specify available or unavailable to users, respectively. In addition, running subscribe_all_users_to_application makes available the applications that you specify to all users. Afterwards, users can disable any of those applications for themselves as they desire.

Release 4.1.1Release 4.1.1 contains no new features.

Release 4.1.0Release 4.1.0 contains the following new features:

• tibbr Files With tibbr Files, you can share files from external file-service providers (for example, SharePoint, Box, and Google Drive) along with your posts. Also, a file-oriented view is available, in which you can comment on; sort by title, source, or date; filter by source, name of sharer, or subject; upload, or download those files.

• tibbr Meetings You can set up and hold meetings through WebEx, Skype, or Google+ Hangout, either in advance or instantaneously.

• Popular conversations The tibbr home page now showcases in the right panel a section called Popular Conversations: the posts with the most replies or likes in the last 24 hours, updated every hour.

• Rich text editor tibbr now features a rich text editor for post content with support for boldfaced text and italics, bullet lists, and so forth.

• Replies to replies A new UI distinguishes responses to replies from those to initial posts.

• Sharing of posts You can now share a post on tibbr with your colleagues and potentially initiate a separate dialog on the subject of the post.

• UI enhancements The look and feel of the subject directories, people directories, and people groups have undergone a revamp for enhanced usability. For example, you can now crop your profile picture while uploading it.

• Performance enhancements We have optimized caching and database queries so that home-page rendering for tibbr is now faster.

• User status You can now specify on tibbr your availability status, for example, “I’m in a meeting.” That status is visible to anyone who mouses over your profile image.

• Choice of authentication type on login tibbr now offers users a new login page from which they can choose the authentication type: SAML server, database, or Active Directory.

• Customizable first-time login process Companies can now customize the registration process for new users by directing them to a site with tibbr-related materials, such as tutorials and terms and conditions, before those users access tibbr for the first time.

• Inline videos With a few configurations, you can now embed in a tibbr post a video from a streaming site that supports Open Graph.

• Languages This release contains two additional translations: Dutch and Swedish. Altogether, besides English, tibbr now supports nine other languages: Chinese (Simplified), Dutch, French, French (Canada), German, Japanese, Portuguese, Spanish, and Swedish.

Changes in Functionality | 7

Changes in Functionality

This section describes the changes in tibbr’s capabilities by release.

Release 5.0.0Release 5.0.0 contains the following changes in functionality:

• tibbr Ideas app (previously called the Ideation app):

— tibbr now allows posting of private ideas. You post them on private subjects just like regular tibbr posts.

— The interface for creating ideas in the Ideas app is now similar to that for creating posts.

— The editing privileges of the Ideas participants, owners, and contributors have undergone a few revisions. See the addendum at the end of the section on the tibbr Ideas app.

• You can no longer specify SharePoint folders while creating tibbr subjects.

• Company Stream is now a common stream for all users in your organization and contains no private posts.

• After a post, tibbr resets the Post to field with your name only and clears the names of the subjects and people to whom you posted in the previous post.

• On the Set Up Alerts page, tibbr now displays the counts of the people and subjects for which you have set up alerts instead of the total following counts.

• After hiding a post, you will not receive email notifications on subsequent replies to that post any more.

• The preview section on new posts to the left of the Filter Posts menu is no longer available.

• In the case of more than 10 replies to a post, tibbr displays 10 at a time. To see more posts, click View previous replies.

• We have changed the Tomcat HTTP port numbers from 8080,9080,7080,5080 to 8210,9210,7210,5210 for the webclient, tibbr, apps, and apps-rails3 servers, respectively.

Similarly, we have changed the AJP port numbers from 8009,9009,7009,5009 to 8139,9139,7139,5139.

• tibCast has been discontinued and is no longer integrated with tibbr.

8 | Release Notes

Release 4.1.2Release 4.1.2 contains the following changes in functionality:

• For tibbr Files:

— The Comments count includes the number of shared files and replies.

— The Comments dialog box is displayed as a pop-up pane.

— No scrollbars are present within scrollbars.

— You can copy a shared file’s URL or view its properties.

— File counts are displayed for folders in the Box and SharePoint apps.

• In case of a failure in delayed jobs, tibbr moves them with a negative priority so that they do not interfere with other jobs. The delayed_jobs_check.sh script is now available for monitoring those failed delayed jobs.

tibbr quarantines failed jobs and does not reprocess them until they have been manually released by a restoration of their priority from the negative to the positive value. Hence, be sure to contact tibbr Support for an analysis of the failed jobs.

To fetch the failed jobs, run this query on the database:

select * from delayed_jobs where priority < 0;

See the output for failed jobs, if any. The log file failed_jobs_count.log shows the number of failed jobs.

Changes in Functionality | 9

Release 4.1.1Following are the functionality changes in Release 4.1.1:

• Configuration of SharePoint on tibbr While configuring SharePoint on tibbr, you no longer need to fill in a Setup URL field, which we have removed from the Basic Info section of the Edit Application page. In other words, skip step 5a in the section Configuring the SharePoint App on tibbr in Chapter 5 of the tibbr 4.1 Installation and Configuration manual.

• Apache directories By default, the Apache directory is at tibbr_home/tools/linux64/apache2. If you are running a 32-bit Apache instance, that directory is tibbr_home/tools/apache2.

• Audit logs tibbr no longer offers the capability for generating audit logs.

Release 4.1.0Following are the functionality changes in Release 4.1.0:

• Followers and following Instead of displaying a count of your followers and the people you are following below your profile picture in the left panel, tibbr now displays that information when you mouse over your picture in the left panel.

• Deletion of subjects from posts You can now delete a subject from a post, assuming that you are the subject owner or you have message-management privilege. Previously, you could delete the post in question but can no longer do so.

• Notification enhancements The following enhancements are now available for notifications:

— For an @ mention of your name in a post, the message in the notification icon now reads, for example, “XYZ mentioned you in a post” instead of “XYZ sent you a private post.”

— In the message, tibbr displays the first part of the post in question.

• Search enhancement Search now works seamlessly for search keywords that are singular or plural nouns, also for verb variants, for example, listen and listening.

• Enhanced display of image carousel For multiple images attached to a post, forward and backward arrows are now available for scrolling through them.

• Enhancements under What’s Happening The following enhancements are now available for the What’s Happening panels:

— Pop-ups that contain more details, such as members, posts, and @ mentions.

— For the panel on posts, their trends are now displayed for the last 30 days instead of on a weekly basis.

• Social bar in tibbr Connect plugins We have enhanced the three tibbr Connect plugins (Like, Share, and Comment) so that you can now embed them in a social bar, as shown here: .

• Email alerts The UI for setting up email alerts has been enhanced to be more intuitive. Also, tibbr now sends out email alerts according to a new set of templates.

Migration and Compatibility

For details on how to migrate from a previous release to the current release, see the section Upgrade or Restore in the tibbr 4.0.2 Installation and Configuration manual.

In addition to performing the migration steps, be sure to run the import_old_notifications utility.

Also, after starting tibbr subsequent to the upgrade, do the following:

1. Run this utility in the tibbr_home/scripts directory to create preview images for the existing ones:

./tibbr_util.sh refresh_styles

Be sure to wait till refresh_styles finishes running before performing steps 2 and 3.

2. Set the parameter resource_preview_point_to_original in the app_config.yml file to false.

3. Restart the tibbr server.

4.1.0 TIBR-13542 The Shared Connections section in the Following tab of a user profile took too long to render. We have enhanced the performance of the related API call.

4.1.0 TIBR-13736 An @ mention of a user name in a post did not cause that name to be placed in the Posted to field. Hence, the post did not appear on that user's wall.

4.1.0 TIBR-13824 With the OAuth2 API, if you opened a page that required app authorization to tibbr, you were redirected to tibbr and prompted for your login credentials. If authentication succeeded, you were asked to allow access to the app. However, if you then clicked Do Not Allow in the dialog box in question, a syntax error was displayed.
