viii | Typographical Conventions

{ } A logical group of items in a command. Other syntax notations may appear within each logical group.

For example, the following command requires two parameters, which can be either the pair param1 and param2, or the pair param3 and param4.

MyCommand {param1 param2} | {param3 param4}

In the next example, the command requires two parameters. The first parameter can be either param1 or param2 and the second can be either param3 or param4:

MyCommand {param1 | param2} {param3 | param4}

In the next example, the command can accept either two or three parameters. The first parameter must be param1. You can optionally include param2 as the second parameter. And the last parameter is either param3 or param4.

MyCommand param1 [param2] {param3 | param4}

Installation Modes

Two installation modes are available: GUI and silent.

Installation Personas

There are different installation personas available that allow you to customize the installation of TIBCO Business Studio components. Selecting one of these personas installs a subset of TIBCO Business Studio features. The following table describes the personas available:

Using a persona results in an installation with the fewest possible steps, as it tailors the installation of features to particular roles. If you want to add or remove individual features, you should select Customize Installation.

The following table describes the features that are selected for each persona.

Supported Platforms

Microsoft Windows 7:

• 32-bit on x86

• 64-bit on x86-64

Microsoft Windows Server:

• Windows Server 2008 32-bit on x86

• Windows Server 2008 64-bit on x86-64

• Windows Server 2008 R2 64-bit on x86-64

Linux software distribution packages and supported versions:

Novell SUSE Linux Enterprise Server

• 10.x, 11.0,11.x 32-bit on x86

• 10.x, 11.0,11.2,11.x 64-bit on x86-64

Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server

• 5.7, 6.2 32-bit on x86

The 32 bit Windows version of TIBCO Business Studio is supported on both 32 and 64 bit Windows platforms; Linux has x86 and x64 (32 bit and 64 bit) distributions.

Microsoft have discontinued standard support for Windows XP and Windows Server 2003. (Extended support is still available but must be purchased from Microsoft.)

TIBCO will continue to support TIBCO Business Studio on Windows XP and Windows Server 2003. However, if a problem with TIBCO Business Studio is reported to TIBCO Support, and the problem is traced to the Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 operating system, TIBCO Support will be unable to assist further in the resolution of that problem.

TIBCO therefore recommend that you use Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 instead of Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 on any system that runs TIBCO Business Studio.

Windows 7 Professional is the minimum level supported by TIBCO.

Installation Overview | 5

• 5.7, 6.2 64-bit on x86-64

Minimum Disk Space and Memory Requirements

• Free disk space: from 925Mb to 1.8 GB depending on options selected for installation.

• Memory: minimum 1 GB RAM; the recommended level is 2 GB, or more depending on project sizes.

Software Requirements

The following section lists software requirements.

Third-party Software:

The following third-party software is required:

• JRE 1.6.0 (included in installation). We recommend that users stay up to date with Java patches issued by Oracle.

• Hibernate Version 3.2.7 is required (assembly_tibco_com_tibco_tpcl_org_hibernate_feature_3.2.400.001.zip).

These are the versions that have been tested on. TIBCO would expect subsequent Red Hat 5.x. Red Hat 6.x and SUSE 11 Service Packs to be compatible.

The maximum number of open files/file descriptors that a user can open is controlled by the operating system. The threshold on Linux is typically too low for use with TIBCO Business Studio and has to be increased. The exact number depends on the features selected during installation and the size of the workspace but our experience is that 10000 is plenty. You can find out the number on your system using ulimit -n from a Terminal window.

You must use a Hibernate Assembly that you have downloaded from TIBCO or the installation will fail.

TIBCO Business Studio Installation

Page 16: TIBCO Business Studio™ Installation · PDF fileTIBCO Business Studio Installation Installation Overview |3 System Requirements Make sure that your target computer m eets the necessary

6 | Chapter 1 Installing TIBCO Business Studio

During the installation process for TIBCO Business Studio, you can do one of the following:

— Allow the TIBCO Business Studio installer to automatically download and install Hibernate.

— Install TIBCO Business Studio using a Hibernate assembly that you have previously downloaded from TIBCO. During installation, you will be asked to specify the directory where you downloaded Hibernate.

• Eclipse SWT (Standard Web Toolkit) GTK

The TIBCO Business Studio installer for Linux 32 and 64 bit distributions downloads the Eclipse SWT GTK module which contains the following two items:

— The Free Software Foundation, Gnome Binding

— The Free Software Foundation, GTK+ Binding

The zip files required are as follows:

— product_tibco_eclipse_lgpl_3.4.2.001_linux24gl23_x86.zip

— product_tibco_eclipse_lgpl_3.4.2.001_linux24gl23_x86_64.zip

During the installation process for TIBCO Business Studio the steps are very similar to using Hibernate. An installation dialog comes up for accepting the license and then gives an option to download the assembly from the TIBCO public website or select it from the disk.

TIBCO Business Studio Asset Central Requirements

There are no additional requirements beyond those for TIBCO Business Studio. However, you cannot configure Asset Central unless the PATH environment variable points to Version 1.5 or later of the Java Runtime Environment (JRE). If you plan to configure Asset Central during the installation, you must first configure Java.

If you want the installer to automatically install Hibernate 3.2.7, make sure you are online.

If you have previously installed Asset Central and are planning to install it again, either ensure the Asset Central services are not running, or remove any services created by the previous version.

Compatibility

TIBCO Business Studio version 3.5.20 (including Forms version 2.4.0) is compatible with:

• TIBCO ActiveMatrix BPM version 2.1.0

• TIBCO ActiveMatrix Service Bus version 3.1.5

• TIBCO ActiveMatrix Service Grid version 3.1.5

Installer Account

You must have administrator privileges for the machine on which TIBCO Business Studio is installed. If you do not have administrator privileges, the installer exits. You must then log out of the system and log in as a user with the required privileges, or request your system administrator to assign the privileges to your account.

If you intend to install the product on a network drive, you must ensure that the account used for installation has permission to access the network drive.

Installation Directory

TIBCO recommends that you install each version of TIBCO Business Studio into a new, empty installation environment (separate from earlier versions of TIBCO Business Studio or other TIBCO products).

To do this, install TIBCO Business Studio as described in Install TIBCO Business Studio on page 9. Specify a new, empty directory or create a new, empty directory as the environment location.

You may install TIBCO Business Studio into an existing installation environment if:

• you are reinstalling the same edition and version of TIBCO Business Studio in order to repair a corrupt installation.

After installing TIBCO Business Studio with administrator privileges, do not use the same account to create a workspace for the user. Instead, individual users should start TIBCO Business Studio from the account with which they intend to use TIBCO Business Studio, and create their own workspace to avoid potential issues with permissions.

You should create a new workspace for each installation of TIBCO Business Studio.

— Use an existing TIBCO_HOME. Select an existing TIBCO_HOME from the drop-down list.

The installer automatically creates an environment name for the location you specify. The default environment name is studio-bpm-3.5. If this is not the first installation of TIBCO software, you can edit the environment name to differentiate this subsequent installation of TIBCO software from the first.

Click Next. The Hibernate License Agreement dialog is displayed.

9. Review the terms of the license agreement and, if you agree to them, click I accept the terms of the license agreement. Then click Next to continue with the installation. The Hibernate assembly is then downloaded from TIBCO.

If you do not agree to the terms of the license agreement, click Cancel to exit from the installation process.

10. After the installer configures your installation choices, the Pre-Install Summary dialog is displayed. Review the information displayed in the dialog and make sure that it is correct.

If you want to change any of your choices, click Back to step back through the dialogs to the appropriate point and make your choices again.

11. When you are satisfied with your choices, click Install. The installer now performs the necessary installation tasks.

12. Once the installer has finished the installation tasks, the Running Product ANT Tasks dialog is displayed. The installer now performs the necessary tasks to initialize the installation. Click Show Details to see the tasks that the installer is performing.

Complete a Custom Installation

This section describes how to complete a custom installation. The steps described in this section are only displayed if you select Customize Installation in the Installation Profile Selection dialog.

1. On the Installation Profile Selection dialog, select Customize Installation in the left hand pane. In the right hand pane, all the features are selected except Process Simulation and Asset Central. You can add or remove individual features, depending on your requirements.

Click Next.

2. The TIBCO Installation Home dialog appears. TIBCO_HOME is the preferred top level installation directory for all TIBCO products on your system. Select either:

— Create a new TIBCO_HOME. Click Browse to specify an environment location (a directory path to an empty folder into which the software will be installed), or accept the default environment location (which is the last directory in the path selected).

— Use an existing TIBCO_HOME. Select an existing TIBCO_HOME from the drop-down list.

If you are installing on Windows 7, you may see a pop-up stating "This program might not have installed corrrectly". This is due to an incompatibility between InstallShield and Windows 7, but should not affect your TIBCO Business Studio installation.

TIBCO strongly recommend not to install on a customized Eclipse. TIBCO Business Studio and other dependent components often use very specific versions of Eclipse frameworks which TIBCO provide in the installation process. Therefore if you cannot install a required plug-in(s) on top of TIBCO Business Studio it is unlikely they will work with TIBCO Business Studio at all.

If you require to use a custom installation then TIBCO strongly recommends you use Eclipse JEE Ganymede Version 3.4 SR 2..

TIBCO Business Studio Installation

12 | Chapter 1 Installing TIBCO Business Studio

The installer automatically creates an environment name for the location you specify. The default environment name is studio-bpm-3.5. If this is not the first installation of TIBCO software, you can edit the environment name to differentiate this second installation of TIBCO software from the first.

Click Next. The Hibernate License Agreement dialog is displayed.

3. Review the terms of the license agreement and, if you agree to them, click I accept the terms of the license agreement. Then click Next to continue with the installation.

If you do not agree to the terms of the license agreement, click Cancel to exit from the installation process.

4. The Eclipse Location dialog is displayed. TIBCO recommends that you use the Eclipse platform provided with TIBCO Business Studio; to do this, just click Next. However you can install TIBCO Business Studio into your own Eclipse installation. If you want to do this, select the Use my own Eclipse installation check box, specify the location of your Eclipse installation in the Eclipse Installation Location field, and click Next.

The installer performs some basic checks to try to ascertain whether a suitable copy of Eclipse is installed in the selected directory. If the installer finds any problems with the Eclipse configuration that you specified, it displays messages. If you are confident that the directory is correct or if you plan to manually configure Eclipse later, continue the installation.

5. After the installer configures your installation choices, the Pre-Install Summary dialog is displayed. Review the information displayed in the dialog and make sure that it is correct.

If you want to change any of your choices, click Back to step back through the dialogs to the appropriate point. You can then restart the installation process from that point.

6. When you are satisfied with your choices, click Install.

The installation procedure checks certain aspects of the specified Eclipse installation, however, TIBCO recommends that after installation, you validate the configuration.

TIBCO Business Studio does not provide any special security for documents that you put on the web server created by Asset Central, and the documents you serve may be viewed by anyone. This means that you should work with your system administrator to determine the appropriate settings for your firewall and any applicable security software.

Because Asset Central is not secured by default, all users have both read and write access to asset versioning.

Install in GUI Mode on Linux

The following procedure explains how to install TIBCO Business Studio on Linux platforms.

If you want to run TIBCO Business Studio in "headless" mode on Linux for command line build and deploy, it is necessary to have the Xvfb service running as some of the underlying eclipse components require an X Window System running on *NX based operating systems.

The examples below are for Red Hat Linux (x86_64). You can tailor these steps to your own installation.

In text terminal mode (a default Red Hat 6 runlevel 3 for example) you can use Xvfb to run X Window Virtual Frame Buffer:

1. Install the Virtual Frame Buffer package for X11 if it is not already installed. If this is not available in the base repository of Red Hat you should enable one of Red Hat specific package repositories.

yum install xorg-x11-server-Xvfb.x86_64

2. export DISPLAY=:1

3. xvfb-run <your ant script>

Or alternatively:

1. yum install xorg-x11-server-Xvfb.x86_64

2. export DISPLAY=:1

3. Xvfb :1 > /dev/null 2>&1 &

4. ....<run your ant script>

The other solution is simply to start the X Window server.

Page 26: TIBCO Business Studio™ Installation · PDF fileTIBCO Business Studio Installation Installation Overview |3 System Requirements Make sure that your target computer m eets the necessary

16 | Chapter 1 Installing TIBCO Business Studio

1. Run the shell script TIBCOUniversalInstaller-lnx-xnn.bin.

2. Follow the installation steps which will be similar to those in Install in GUI Mode on Windows on page 9 other than the following:

— After accepting the Hibernate License Agreement, accept the Gnome License Agreement which uses the LGPL License

— Click on Download Gnome Binding assembly from TIBCO.

Install in Silent Mode (All Platforms)

The following procedure explains how to install TIBCO Business Studio in silent mode on all platforms. The TIBCOUniversalInstaller.silent file is packaged in the directory that contains the universal installer. You must edit the file with information for your environment before launching the silent installation. The file includes comments that describe the installation properties you can set.

While you can use the TIBCOUniversalInstaller.silent file, it’s good practice to copy the file to a different name and use that file for the silent install.

If errors occur during installation, they will be listed in the installation log file (see the User_Home/.TIBCO directory).

1. Open the distribution DVD or download the TIBCO Business Studio product package.

2. Extract the TIBCO Business Studio product archive file to a temporary directory.

3. Using a console window, navigate to the temporary directory that contains the universal installer.

After a successful installation, TIBCO Business Studio occasionally fails to startup on Linux systems, with a blank popup presented and the following error: "Product com.tibco.xpd.branding.prod could not be found" is thrown in the STUDIO-HOME\eclipse-platform\ganymede\eclipse\configuration folder.

Workaround: Eclipse 3.4.2 is not compatible with Xulrunner 1.9 as reported by https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=262929. Xulrunner is typically installed as part of the Firefox browser and v1.9 is used by Firefox v3.5 and above. The compatible versions of Xulrunner are shown here: http://www.eclipse.org/swt/faq.php#browserlinux.

The preferred workaround is to obtain a compatible version of xulrunner. You can configure TIBCO Business Studio to use it by adding this to the end of the TIBCOBusinessStudio.ini file: -Dorg.eclipse.swt.browser.XULRunnerPath=path_to_xulrunner_1_8

TIBCO Business Studio Installation

4. Copy the TIBCOUniversalInstaller.silent file and name the file.

5. Using a text editor, open the copied file and update the install location, and the list of features to install.

6. Run the installer:

TIBCOUniversalInstaller -silent -VresponseFile="myfilename.silent"

If you are using the TIBCOUniversalInstaller.silent file, you need not supply the file name and can run: TIBCOUniversalInstaller -silent.

A line similar to the following is written to the installer log file when installation completes:

Install, com.tibco.installer.util.TIBCOInstaller, dbg.Debug,

The installation has completed. Please check the log file for

additional information.

7. Complete the post-installation tasks described in Perform Post Installation/Upgrade Tasks on page 18.

If you are installing Asset Central and Windows firewall alerts are displayed, click Unblock so Asset Central can be installed.

Perform Post Installation/Upgrade Tasks

After the installation completes, perform the tasks described in this section as applicable.

Delete the Temporary Installation Files

If you want to recover the disk space used by the installation files that you extracted to a temporary directory in step 3 of the installation, delete them.

Windows 7

If you are not in the local Administrators group, you must change the privilege level for TIBCO Business Studio to Run this program as Administrator in order for TIBCO Business Studio to run properly in Windows 7. To do this:

1. Browse to the location of your TIBCO Business Studio.exe, for example TIBCO_HOME\studio\3.5\eclipse.

2. Right-click TIBCO Business Studio.exe and select Properties. The Properties dialog is displayed.

3. Select Compatibility. In Privilege Level, select Run this program as Administrator.

Create Link Files (Optional)

The TIBCO Business Studio installation creates files called "link files" in the following directory:

STUDIO_HOME\eclipse-platform\ganymede\eclipse\links

A link file provides the path for any additional plugins that you want to include in your Eclipse or TIBCO Business Studio environment. If you have other plugins that you want to link to your TIBCO Business Studio environment, create a link file in the previously mentioned directory. The file extension must be .link, and the file must contain the path to the parent directory of the eclipse directory, which in turn must contain plugins and features directories. For example, a link file could contain the following path (note that the directory delimiters must be forward slashes):

path=C:/ganymede

TIBCO Business Studio Installation

Page 29: TIBCO Business Studio™ Installation · PDF fileTIBCO Business Studio Installation Installation Overview |3 System Requirements Make sure that your target computer m eets the necessary

Perform Post Installation/Upgrade Tasks | 19

In this case there must be an eclipse directory below ganymede, and the eclipse directory must contain plugins and features directories:

For more information about link files, see:

http://help.eclipse.org/ganymede/index.jsp?topic=/org.eclipse.platform.doc.isv/guide/product_extension.htm

Test Asset Central

If you have installed and configured TIBCO Business Studio Asset Central, you can test the server (see Testing the HTTP Server on page 31).

Configure Subversion (SVN)

If you plan on using SVN, after you start TIBCO Business Studio, you must change the SVN settings for your workspace as follows:

1. Select Window > Preferences.

2. Expand Team and select SVN.

3. Change the SVN interface: setting to SVNKit(Pure Java) and click Apply and OK to exit the dialog.

You must also perform this procedure when you switch to a new workspace. This setting is saved for the workspace, so you need only do this once on each workspace.

2. In the Control Panel, double-click Add or Remove Programs.

3. In the Add/Remove Programs dialog, select TIBCO Universal Installer (installation_environment_n), where installation_environment_n is the directory corresponding to the installation environment you want to uninstall. If you have installed more than one TIBCO product, there will be multiple entries in Add/Remove programs (for example, TIBCO Universal Installer (c:\tibco\env_1), TIBCO Universal Installer (c:\tibco\env_2), and so on).

4. Click Change/Remove.

The uninstaller launches. Follow the uninstallation steps in Using the Uninstaller on page 22.

The TIBCO Business Studio entries in the Start menus may appear after the uninstallation. To correct this log out, then log in again.

The uninstaller may not completely remove files that have been modified since the initial installation (for example, the configuration directory). If you do not need any of the other remaining files, manually delete them.

28 | Configuring Asset Central

Configuring Asset Central

This section describes how to use the TIBCO Business Studio Asset Central Configuration Utility to set up a Subversion server. You may have already done this configuration as part of the installation, but you can use this utility to make any configuration changes that are necessary (to change the Document root, for example).

Configuring Java

To ensure that the TIBCO Business Studio Asset Central Configuration Utility has access to the correct JRE, do the following:

Open a command window and enter:

java -version

— If the Java version returned is 1.5 or later, the utility will run correctly.

— If the Java command is unrecognized, and TIBCO Business Studio is installed on the same machine, you can point to the JRE used by TIBCO Business Studio by modifying the value for the PATH environment variable as described in the following section, but ensuring that PATH points to the \jre\bin sub-directory of the TIBCO Business Studio installation directory.

— If the Java command is unrecognized and you have installed Asset Central on a different machine than TIBCO Business Studio, you must install Version 1.5 or later of the JRE before you can use the Asset Central Configuration Utility. For downloads and installation instructions, see the Sun website. Then ensure that the PATH environment variable is configured to point to the \jre\bin directory as described in the following section.

— If the Java version returned is earlier than 1.5 and you know that 1.5 is installed on the system, modify the value for the PATH environment variable to make sure that the 1.5 version is specified first as described in the following section.

Configuring the PATH Variable

1. Right-click My Computer and select Properties.

To set up a Subversion server, you must have installed the optional Asset Central part of TIBCO Business Studio (see Installing TIBCO Business Studio on page 1).

TIBCO Business Studio Installation
