DESIGN ORIGAMIWorkshop outcomes Business of Software 2017 - USA 9/20/2017
ABOUT On September 20 Sean and I conducted a „Design Origami“ workshop at „Business of Software Conference“.
Business Origami is a powerful research method for modeling and understanding complex services. It allows us to describe how users experience a service making emphasis on the main touch points of interaction that can be translated into a variety of methods for idea generation such as journey maps.
THE WORKSHOP 10 attendees were engaged in analyzing and improving the Business-of-Software conference experience by DESIGN ORIGAMI.
All attendees were highly satisfied with the way the workshop was structured and laid out. Shortly after begin they engaged in a highly interactive session to create a service journey for BoS conference.
They came up with a set of exciting improvements that can be taken into account for designing the next BoS experience.
IMPROVEMENT POTENTIALS
1 Add venue section to the BoS site. Rationale: new people weren´t sure about the exact location. They expect a website section "venue" covering plans and information about conference locations, how to get there and what session to await in a particular room.
2 Onsite printer for printing no name badge.Rationale: Sometimes people arrive late
3 Encourage attendees to disable notifications. Rationale: People liked the idea to be actively be encouraged to turn off their mobile and laptop notifications to enjoy the conference experience completely
4 Enlarge typeface for schedule on conference badge.Rationale: The conference schedule printed on the badge was a bit hard to read for some of the guys. The used typeface is a bit small.
5 Provide a broader selection of coffee.Rationale: People prefer different ways of caffeine intake. Serve baristas and latte macchiatos as an added value. People will appreciate it!
6 Provide a sign in the air as a landmark for people looking for the signup table.Rationale: Some people couldn´t find the sign-up table immediately. If a bunch of people was standing right in front
of the table, it lost its visibility.
7 Reduce number of seats per table to decrease noise levels while talking.Rationale: Meeting and talking to people at lunch tables was sometimes hard to an unusually high level of surrounding noise.
8 Announce workshop clearly before they start. Rationale: Workshops weren`t announced explicitly, so some people weren`t sure about at what time the sessions are supposed to begin.
