Title timeline sequence ‘Cabin in the Woods’

1. The ‘production company’ 00:00- 00:19

The production company is usually a key title when introducing a film via the opening sequence. It suggests to the user what genre the film may be as specific production companies usually take on particular film genres. The title also suggests to the audience how big the film company is or the film budget as well known production companies will have more money to produce better quality films, and more of them.

2. Secondly, another production company title 00:19-00:40Similar to the first title, this title is showing the audience that ‘Lionsgate’ has produced this film; this means that audiences that have watched previous films from this institution will recognise them for previous good/bad films. This could attract a wider range of audiences.

3. ‘Mutant Enemy’ production company 00:40-00:52This title shows that the production company ‘mutant enemy’ have helped to create this film; this could suggest that the company is of a lower popularity and has been funded by Lionsgate to produce the film. This could gain the company recognition. It also creates a higher profile for him as if people watch the film and like it they will want to see more from him. Also it hints at genre and themes as Drew Goddard is known for producing thriller or horror films, he’s also particularly interested in sci-fi which links to the cabin in the woods themes. 5. ‘Cabin in the woods’ 02:47-02:50This is the title of the production, this hints to the audience the themes and narratives and shows them the film they are watching. The big bold red font could also hint to the genre or themes as red could link to blood and gore and the capitals suggest that something will be exciting. It is important to show actors names in the opening sequence because they get the recognition deserved as well as attracting star appeal.

7. ‘Chris Hemsworth’ 02:56-02:59This is another well-known actor as the Hemsworth family are quite highly ranked in the acting industry with Chris’ brother in a very popular movie franchise named ‘The Hunger Games’ meaning fans will probably know Chris in films too. Similarly it is important to include actor’s names in the opening sequence to get as many fans as possible engaged and watching your film so you generate a higher box office profit.

It can also build up a fan base for the audience to join as if they like the work of these two casting directors then they may watch other films where they have cast actors.

15. ‘Co-Producer John Swallow’ 03:49- 03:51This is important to include as it attarcts audiences from films this producer has previousl;y helped with, it also gives the producer recognition for his work with the main producer.

Visual effects are usually a large part of films in the 21 century. They help to create a more believable film and attract a wider audience as many are interested in visual effects. Including this in the opening sequence suggests genre as not all genre’s use visual effects.

This is another title to give recognition to those that have helped create the production. It is important to give credits to everyone whether within the opening or end sequence. Opening sequence is usually for the most important people associated within the film. The music is usually a main part of the film so it would go in the opening sequence.

18. ‘Music by David Julyan’ 04:27-04:31 Similar to ‘music supervisor’ this role is important within the title sequence so the person that created the music can have the recognition they deserve.

19. ‘Costume designer Shawna Trpcic’ 04:33-04:36Costumes are a main convention is helping to establish genre and the type of personalities characters have. This is title is included within the opeing sequence to gice recogntion to the person that helpes create the costumes so they can be judged on their ability to establish genre and characters to the audience via clothes.

20. ‘Editor Lisa Lassek’ 04:41-04:44It is important to include the editor within the titles because they are the key individual that helps to compile the film together so the audiences can understand the narrative. It may create a wider fan base for the editor as they may like how the film was edited.

21. ‘Production desginer Martin Whist’ 04:48-04:51 This is the last title within this sequence. Production designer is an important job as they design everything to do with the production and how it may be run or set up etc. this is included in the title sequence to give the production designer the recognition for their work and allows audiences to decide whether they like the production or not if they would watch more of his work.
