Service NotesArmy Pvt. Jabez T. Flint has
graduated from the Infantryman One Station Unit Training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga. The training consists of Basic Infantry Training and Advanced Individual Training.
During the nine weeks of basic combat training, the soldier received training in drill and cer-emonies, weapons employment, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physi-cal fitness, first aid skills, and Army history, core values and traditions. Additional training included development of basic combat skills and battlefield operations and tactics.
The Advanced Individual Training course is designed to train infantry soldiers to per-form reconnaissance operations; employ, fire and recover anti-personnel and anti-tank mines; locate and neutralize land mines and operate target and sight equipment; operate and maintain communications equipment and radio networks; construct field
firing aids for infantry weapons; and perform infantry combat exercises and dismounted battle drills.
He is the son of Carl Flint of Broad St., Cambridge, N.Y. The private is a 2008 graduate of Cambridge High School.

When local friends of mine told me that their church group had chosen Spice Root as the venue for a luncheon, I decided to tag along. I’ve dined many times at the popular Williamstown, Ma. eatery since it opened in 2003.
Spice Root’s cuisine is match-less in terms of the quality of its principal entrees, side dishes, breads, and desserts, all prepared in the Northern Indian style, and its full service bar. It also fea-tures a lunch buffet, where on any given day there are anywhere from four to six different main dishes to choose from, half veg-etarian, and half meat.
Owner Tarun Narula, of Bombay, and general manager Steven Lawrence, of New Delhi, have worked tirelessly in Spice Root’s six years to bring gour-met-quality Indian cuisine to the Berkshires at an affordable price.
“The family is the core of Indian life,” Lawrence said. “Because of this, we strive to pro-vide a meal that a family back in my hometown of New Delhi would enjoy. It’s important to be authentic, and a big part of that is the price.”

Free Community Meal
The free monthly Community Meal is back! The next din-ner will be served at First Baptist Church in Cambridge on Saturday, January 31 from noon to 1 p.m. This month’s menu will be chicken and biscuits, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, veg-etable, dessert and beverages. This month’s meal is sponsored by the Country Clovers 4H Club. The monthly meals are orga-nized by First Baptist Church of Cambridge, with the assistance of community churches and orga-nizations such as 4H clubs and scouts, etc. First Baptist Church is located on West Main St. between Glens Falls National Bank and the IGA store. Ian Barry, head winemaker at Swedish Hill Winery on Cayuga Lake, New York.
Swedish Hill Winery won the Governor’s Cup and was named Winery of the Year at the New York State Wine & Food Classic on August 20th.
Twenty-five judges blind-tasted a record 790 wines from the Hudson Valley, Long Island, Niagara, Lake Erie and many other regions of New York State.
Swedish Hill’s 2007 Vidal Blanc was voted Best White Wine and received the Governor’s cup, a large silver chalice, the top prize in what is considered the “Oscars” of New York Wine.
Ian, originally from Hoosick Falls, now lives with his wife Tricia near Seneca Lake, New York. He graduated from SUNY New Paltz with a degree in English Literature. While at col-lege, he worked part time at Adair Vineyards and was bitten by the winemaking bug. He then con-tinued his education in Oregon with classes in Oenology. He moved to Washington State and worked as an assistant winemak-er. After moving back East, he worked as assistant winemaker at Heron Hill in the Finger Lakes and then onto the head wine-maker position at Swedish Hill.
Ian is the son of Ken and Hope Barry of Hoosick Falls.
