Pray for the Dead: Oremos por los Difuntos:

Gospel: luke 18: 9-14 How should we approach God in prayer? Jesus tells a wonderful parable today contrasting two ways of appearing before God. The Pharisee is proud and pleased with himself. He has "outdone" himself in abiding by religious laws. He looks down on others "less holy" than himself, and he believes that this alone will bring him salvation. But the tax collector really looks at himself. He admits that he is a sinner and begs God to have mercy on him. Because he humbles himself, the tax collector is raised high by God. The Pharisee, who does not really know God as he should, is limited in his prayer. 1.) Did you know that you could change some things about yourself? Make a list of "strengths" and "weaknesses." For strengths, put down what you are good at or love to do. For weaknesses, put down what is hard for you or things that can hurt or bother others. Enjoy your strengths and take a good look at your weaknesses. How can you make them stronger? If you wrote, "shy," resolve to say hello to four people every day.

Pastor’s Message: The whole community catechesis offers a vision of church that is both exciting and challenging. The vision is this: that one day the church, all the people of God, will fully con-sciously, and activity participate, not only in the celebration of the liturgy, but in all aspects of parish life, and this life will draw them into a deeper relationship with Christ who sends them forth to love and serve other. Whole community cate-chesis means, “ Here Comes Everybody.” Our Catechetical and Pastoral leaders will lead the Parishion-ers thought implementation of whole community catechesis, and includes an explanation of its dimensions and elements while also providing examples from their own Pastoral experi-ence. Rev. Eugene Tungol Pastor

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION: Friday’s Solemnity of All Saints and Saturday’s Com-memoration of All the Faithful Departed fit well at the beginning of November. The liturgical readings of this final month in the Church year are keyed to the end of time and the fulfillment of Jesus’ saving acts. Nowhere is this more fully celebrated than in Mexico, where November 2 is the “Day of the Dead.” Missionaries moved an ancient Aztec festival from midsummer to November, linking the festival to Christian themes. Today, it is a time for remembering the dead and celebrating the continuity of life, principally by festive picnics in cemeteries. There are special foods and games, and people socialize with other families and tell favorite stories about their dear ones. The sweetness of life is honored by sugary desserts and treats. Flow-ers, music, lights, and feasting assure that the day is not at all morbid. Traditionally, the day begins with Mass, a procession to the cemetery, and a morning feast. Most families have a special dinner with the pan de muerto, or “bread of the dead.” A toy skeleton is baked into the loaf, and the one who bites into it is considered lucky indeed. The dead are not feared, but deeply loved, and this joyful family feast points both to age-old customs and Resurrection faith.—James Field,Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

Gracias!!

—Fray Gilberto Cavazos-Glz, OFM, Copyright © J.
