Who was Tzveton Todorov?

Todorov was a Bulgarian literacy critic, who suggests that most narratives begin With state of equilibrium, which meant “A calm state of mind” for the protagonist and the other characters in the film. Till a outside force disturbed the peace and the protagonist has to fight against this force in order to back to equilibrium.

Furthermore, this theory can be applied to Horror films because his theory of there always being only a certain number of characters who crop up in most narratives links into the common Horror genre characters.
