Did It Feel Weird? Coming back to Mass felt weird. No singing, six feet apart, sanitized hands, and missals. Here’s what one person wrote: “Despite weird, I can’t describe how grateful I am for being able to worship with others. Just hearting my prayers unite with the prayers of others – all our voices nearly in unison – was all of a sudden striking experience. I felt intensely connected with the other worshippers, despite our separation. And that’s before I even think about how grateful I was to receive Jesus in the Eucharist.” It’s time to return to Mass if you are able to do so. We have made every effort to provide a safe atmosphere. I am sure that we are as safe as any of the local places where you may go: sanitized pews, your own missal, sanitized hands, 6 feet of separation. We’ve done it all! Step into the Breach – Fathers Day

What’s this all about? The Knights of Columbus have produced an excellent series of video highlighting the role of men in our faith. Here’s a quote

from the series: “God has a plan for each man’s life, but the devil also has a plan for each man’s life.” The link to the thirteen videos can be found on the parish homepage (https://mwcatholics.org). Here is a brief sampling of the titles: “Why the Devil Wants You to Fail,” “How to Embrace Suffering,” “Why Strong Fathers Are So Needed.” Each video is about 10 to 15 minutes. Each video is powerful! Praying for our beloved dead has been a time-honored and sacred custom in the Catholic church. We often have Masses celebrated for the repose of our beloved. The offering is $10. In the next few weeks, the outer window frames at St. Mary’s will be completely repaired and painted. You can see that this work is needed. We are able to accomplish this work because of your generosity to the parish’s Capital Campaign. Thank you very much. At St. John’s I am looking at improving our sound system. Again, this can be done because of your gifts to the Capital Campaign. Stayed tuned.

TWELFTH SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME – JUNE 20-21, 2020

Beginning June 22, the Feast of Saints Thomas More andJohn Fisher, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops celebrates Religious Freedom

Week. Join us in promoting religious freedom For the Good of All. All people desire to know their Creator. All people have a natural impulse to seek the good and to live in accordance with that good. All people can flourish when they pursue the truth about God and respond to the truth. Religious freedom means that allpeople have the space to flourish.Religious freedom is both anAmerican value and an importantpart of Catholic teaching on humandignity. When we promote religious freedom, we promote the common good and thus strengthen the life of our nation and the community of nations.

The end of June marks the end of the fiscal year for each of the parishes. Some people have. been able to continue supporting the parishes by sending in their envelopes or by donating online. We would really appreciate it if you could make up your past donations to the parish. I have had to tap into savings to pay current bills. Thank you for your understanding and support.

On this Father’s Day, let us pray for all fathers: We give our thanks, Creator God, for the fathers in our lives. ... For those who are fathers, we ask for wisdom and humility in the face of the task of parenting. Give them the strength to do well by their children and by You. In Your Holy name, O God, we pray. Amen

The Wisdom of C.S. Lewis x Love is not affectionate feeling, but a steady wish for

the loved person's ultimate good as far as it can be obtained.

x I didn’t go to religion to make me happy. I always knew a bottle of Port would do that. If you want a religion to make you feel really comfortable, I certainly don’t recommend Christianity.

x We must both, I'm afraid, recognize that, as we grow older, we become like old cars - more and more repairs and replacements are necessary.

A Catholic Perspective on Fatherhood Today is Father’s Day and we wish all the Father’s in our parishes a beautiful, relaxing day. Father’s Day is celebrated worldwide to recognize the contribution that fathers and father figures make to the lives of their children. It celebrates fatherhood. Although it is celebrated on many different dates worldwide, many countries observe this day on the third Sunday in June. The idea of a day to honor fathers and celebrate fatherhood was introduced in the United States by Sonora Smart Dodd. She was inspired by the American Mother’s Day. Father’s Day has been celebrated in June since 1910. Being a father and fatherhood are actually different. You can become a biological father yet never embrace fatherhood. Fatherhood is the state of actively educating, protecting and providing for one’s children; it is a choice. The following thoughts are excerpted from The Essential Role of the Father by Sam Guzman, founder of The Catholic Gentleman: To be a good father, he should first be a good “Son of God the Father.” He must understand his intimate relationship to God the Father. After placing primary emphasis on his relationship with God the Father, he should love his wife. The love and friendship he has with his wife should be indispensable. The father should love his children and see them as a precious treasure that God has given him with the primary purpose or bringing them to their ultimate destiny, heaven. One example of beautiful fatherhood is in the life of Karol Józef Wojtyła (junior) born in southern Poland, the youngest of three children. He lost his mother at 9 years of age and then spent much of his time with his father; they even shared the same bedroom at night. Young Karol recalls waking up in the early hours, way before dawn, and seeing his father kneeling, deeply absorbed in prayer. Seeing his dad praying in the early hours left an indelible impression on the young Karol. His earthly Father had a deep and intimate relationship to God the Father and transmitted this to his son. Karol later became Pope John Paul II, one of the greatest and clearest reflections of true fatherhood in the history of the world………………………………………Judy Pearson
