This saying is trustworthy: “If we have died with him we shall also live with him; if we persevere we shall also reign with him.” Saint Paul I looked up the word persevere in the dictionary and found the following; continue in a course of action even in the face of difficulty or with little or no prospect of success. As I begin this reflection there was a lot in the news today about the tragedy in Abington, and our reading from Saint Paul, or certainly his sentiments about death, take on a deeper meaning. “If we have died with him we shall also live with him.” Those left behind struggle with what these words truly mean. It is hard to persevere. We pray for our community here and the communities touched by the lives of the Zaccardi Family. May our thoughts and prayers be with their relatives and friends, classmates and teammates. May our Loving and Merciful God provide us all with consolation even as we know it will take time. The closing prayer of Mass tells us “We entreat your majesty O Lord, that, as you feed us with nourishment which comes from the most holy Body and Blood of your Son, so you make us sharers in his Divine Nature.” May we pray for all who share and have shared in the Divine Nature and pray for God to help us on our way to Heavenly Banquet. Fr. Tom
