The Unityper I1 is amodified Remington Electric Typewriter equippedwith electronic circuits which convert type strokesinto pulse patterns recording them on magnetictape. This unit is compact economical and fast-can be operated by any typist or keypunchoperator.verifier

The Univac Veriiier is a versatile 3-purpose unit.It prepares tape input in the same manner as theUnityper11 it prints output from processed tapesand it checks the accuracy of input tapes.Verifyingis performed by re-typing the input da ta alreadyon the tape. If the second typing is not identicalwith the first the machine automatically bcks. Theoperator may then erase the error substitute thecorrect character and continue typing.

Theseimpulses in turn activate a modified RemingtonElectric Typewriter which automatically types theprocessed data.

tape-to-card converterSome applications require Univac results in theform of punched cards. These are produced by theTape-to-Card Converter at the rate of 120 cardsa minute. Autom atic checking circuits ensure tha tthe data punched in the card s identical withthat on the processed output tape.

operating the systemElectronic computers are not actually giantbrains, as they are popularly called; they areextremely efficient but totally unimaginative ser-vants to those who use them. The efficiency withwhich they operate depends on the human intelli-gence planning the program of instruc tions whichtells them what to do. This s not just true ofUnivac, but of all computing systems. Univacprogrammers have had many years of actual fieldexperience in preparing instructions for a systemof this type.Univac has proven to be the prototype of the busi-ness computer of the future, and those who havepioneered in its many applications have acquiredtraining unobtainable elsewhere. Others may havea groundwork in theory-our programmers havebecome experts through practical experience. You and your company can profit from thisexperience in either of two ways: Firs t, i you wantto egplore the possibility of purchasing or rentinga computer for full-time use, Remington Randoffers a series of training courses in electroniccomputing equipment. Second, if you have animmediateapplication for the Univac System whichcan be handled by occasional use, Univac equip-ment and personnel are available through ourComputer Center services.
