We will be floating the upper section of the Niobrara River, west of Valentine. This section of river is much harder to access, wilder, and more scenic. Thanks to the Sierra Club we can offer this program. There will be a professional interpreter on the trip to describe this beautiful region of the Sandhills and Western Nebraska. Participants that wish to use their own canoes or kayaks please contact JosephHanseling ([email protected]) to discuss logistics. Trip registration includes transportation, equipment for the weekend, and trained instructors.

Want to Work or Get Involvedwith the OVC?

WHO?

Students that are looking for an opportunity to get involved on campus and want to work in an exciting, upbeat environment. Key traits in an ideal candidate include a commitment to developing as an employee, an interest in the outdoors, a desire to improve themselves and their skills, a supportive and inclusive attitude, and a sense of adventure. We are looking for a diverse set of students who have the desire and capacity to become great leaders. WHAT?

The Outdoor Venture Center runs the Climbing Wall, Rental Center and the Venture Trips program. If you become a staff member of the OVC, you will be trained to work in each area.

WHERE?

Staff for the Outdoor Venture Center work in the Wellness Center at the Climbing Wall or the Rental Center. Those students that pursue Trip Leader positions can find themselves leading a paddling trip in Western Nebraska, backpacking in Utah, or climbing in Arkansas.

WHEN?

The OVC is open 7 days a week. Some shifts go into the evenings and weekend availability, schools breaks, and holidays are sometimes scheduled. Staff work on average 10-15 hours a week during the school year with more hours possible during the summer. Academics are the #1 priority for students and we work around schedules. Training students and developing skills are a priority so we ask that students have at least 2 years remaining on campus at the time they are hired.
