Use of Colour Scheme:Analysis

Page 2: Use of colour scheme

Front Cover• I am happy with the use of colours within this

page. I feel I have been able to find the balance between giving the page a vibrant colourful look and holding a professional look. I chose to use the colour red on the front cover because it has major connotations with the genre and the demographic. By using it on the front cover I have immediately highlighted the importance of the topic of Sunderland as these colours are associated with it.

• I would not have been able to achieve this had I used a different colour that was not related to the topic of Sunderland.

• I also used a very grey, grainy colour scheme within the actual image and the image background. I felt this was also important as it matched the mood of my magazine, as opposed to a brighter and more vibrant background colour.

Contents Page• Overall, I think the red and white colour scheme is

emphasised more within my contents page. It was important that I gave my contents page an alluring look as this readers will be looking at it when they are at the stage of deciding whether to read the magazine or not. In order to give the page this look I felt that using vibrant colours against a white background would be useful as the colours are strongly highlighted. If I had used more plain colours such as grey or black, the readers may not have found the page or magazine itself very interesting.

• Similarly to the background colour scheme on my front cover I felt that giving the dominant image a grainy, black and white colour scheme would match the mood of the magazine. The plainness of the image would also mean that the colour scheme throughout the rest of the page is more evidently highlighted.

Double Page Spread• I tried to use a different colour

scheme strategy within my magazine’s double page spread. I gave it a more grey/blue colour scheme to match the content of the interview which looks into ‘the blues’ of living in Sunderland, therefore this colour scheme was perhaps more relevant to the page than a bright red and white colour scheme.

• This did not mean that I didn’t use the red colour scheme at all. I still included the colour scheme, however I did it in more subtle instances as I only changed some of the font colour to red. This was useful as I was still able to implicate my colour scheme which is important to the mise-en-scene of the magazine.

Billboard• The use of colour within this

section of my product is very sublte. The majority of it is in the black and white colour scheme. I used this strategy on purpose to highlight the small use of the red colour within this billboard. The small use of colour was used as a was of symbolising the ‘underdog’ feeling that is associated with Sunderland AFC and despite being this underdog, the spirit is bright and lights up the rest of the page.

• I also felt that this very small, subtle use of the red and white colour scheme gave the page a very neat appearance which would’ve matched the demands of the target audience.

Website• I used the red and white colour scheme

within my website. Many of the websites obvious features such as the navigation bar and the contact box are in the colour red. I felt it was important to stress the red and white colour scheme within the website as it is likely to be the first place where new readers would look before buying the magazine. Using the red colour scheme immediately informs them of the association with Sunderland therefore if they are interested in buying the magazine then this would immediately make them feel more compelled towards buying it.

• Also, as the website is likely to be the first place a reader would see the product, it is important that it is colourful and vibrant as this would hopefully make it more appealing to the reader.
