Can You Spot the Difference?

The day I was Invisible… A short story by: Samuel Cooper

I was minding my own business one day then i saw it a bright green light coming towards me from down the street. No one else seemed to notice it but me and then it hit me square in the chest and I felt cold inside and then I blacked out right in the side walk. I woke up in the same place I fell people walking over me and to the side of me and none of them seemed to notice me until one of them tripped over my legs and yelled, “ Hey you why did you trip me?’, and the other man said, “ I didn’t trip you.” , and the first man threw a punch and the started fighting right next to me. I got up and told the first man it was me and that I was sorry and he said,” Who’s that?”, and I looked up and down the man and my eyes caught were my feet would be and couldn’t see my feet, or my legs, or my arms and I realized I was invisible. I started thinking about it the green ball that only I could see and that the man couldn’t see me and I realized I must be dreaming so I pinched myself and nothing happened but my arm hurt. So this must be reality so since it was reality I decided I would have some fun with this. Firstly decided to go to a movie theater and watch the third hobbit which I had been wanting to see for a while. So I went and saw it was going to play in 5 minutes. And so I went in and got a good seat where nobody else would sit. It lasted about 3 hours it was a lot better than I thought it would be it surprised that Kili and Fili died and Thoren too. As well as Smaug getting shot by the black arrow. After i left i went to the place where they make lottery tickets and found out the numbers and then slipped my dad a note with the numbers on it. The day of the lottery my dad placed his numbers and won 500 trillion dollars and went crazy my mom had to bail him out with $1000 of the 500 trillion. He bought about 1000 acres with some woods on it built a house and the biggest deck i have ever seen and then made himself a fire pit and got new furniture and a big recliner. and from what i noticed he let me have a 1 million dollar budget for my room and game room. And after the craziest day I had I came to my new house put all the stuff I got at bass pro in my half a room closet. Then I rolled out my sleeping bag and went to bed. When I woke up I looked at my hands and I could see them then I looked at my body and I could see it I was visible again. I tried not to tell my mom and dad I just told them I liked the new house and I asked my mom if we could go shopping for my new room. First we went to Kohl's to get my bed then we went to Bed Bath and Beyond to get some furniture for my room. After all that we went home and arranged my new room is was awesome after we arranged we went to Walmart to get a PlayStation 3 or 4 and an x-box 360. after that long day we washed all my new sheets we set up my bed and we both took a nap and that night we went to Red Lobster my dad got the endless shrimp and i got some really good chicken and shrimp and mashed potatoes. And that night we all sat down and watched a movie we had not seen in a while and it was the best day we all had.

Care To Learn Foundation by Bethany Burks

When you think of giving back, you might think of sending money to an orphaned African child that you

saw on a tv commercial that is playing depressing music in the background, but sometimes the people

that need the most help and materials are in your own community. This is proven to be true by the Care

To Learn Foundation, which helps to meet the emergent needs of health, hunger, and hygiene of chil-

dren in our Willard school district. This foundation is very active in our

community, for in 2013-2014 they made just under 4,000 impressions

(meeting a child's needs) on the children of our district. The leader of

the Care To Learn foundation in our district is Debbie Burks. Other than

being the schools social worker, and working Care to Learn she is also

in charge of the Willard Community Food Pantry for the school. Debbie

also runs a clothing bank and manages many other areas to help stu-

dents in our district with any need that may delay them from learning.

Debbie also contributes as the liaison for the homeless of the district.

What Does Christmas Mean to You?

By: Katie Baird

With Christmas just around the corner, people are talking all about their favorite parts of the holiday season. I inter-viewed several people on what the Christmas season means to them. Here are their answers.

Chloe Terry: Presents and Christmas breakfast!

John Baker: It means fun times with family, and no school!

Natalie Golden: It means rejoicing Jesus and having fun; not so much about the gifts and more about the Lord!

Savanna Jones: I feel like it’s family time. Sometimes it’s about the presents, but mainly the holidays are centered around Christ and family.

Connor Reich (Corndog): Christmas means family and giving back. Receiv-ing isn’t what it’s all about. Also, Olaf is da best!

Rachel Knapp: Having fun times with family and enjoying the break. And snow!

History of Christmas Trees By: Belle Warn

Have you ever wondered why we have Christmas trees? Well, it all started in Western Germany in the 16th century when devout Christians brought decorated trees into their homes. If wood was scarce, then they would build wooden pyramids and decorate them with evergreens and candles. It was believed that in the 16th century, Martin Lu-ther was the first to add lighted candles to a tree. He had come up with that idea one winter evening when he was awed by the beauty of stars twinkling behind some ever-greens and decided to recreate the scene for his family by creating a tree in the main room with branches wired with lighted candles. By the 19th century, most Americans found Christmas trees to be odd. The first record of one being on display was in the 1830s by the German settlers of Pennsylvania, although trees had been a tradition in many German homes much earlier. The Pennsylvania German settlements had commu-nity trees as early as 1747. But, as late as the 1840s Christ-mas trees were seen as pagan symbols and not accepted by most Americans. In 1846, the popular royals, Queen Victoria and her German Prince, Albert, were sketched in the Illustrated London News standing with their children around a Christmas tree. Unlike the previous royal family, Victoria was very popular with her subjects, and what was done instantly became fashionable- not only in Britain, but with fashion-conscious East Coast American Society. The Christmas tree had finally came to America. By the 1890s Christmas ornaments were arriving from Germany and Christmas tree popularity was on the rise in the U.S. It was noted that Europeans used small trees about four feet tall, while Ameri-cans liked their Christmas trees to reach from the floor to the ceil-ing. Then, in the early 20th century had Americans decorating their Christ-mas trees with homemade orna-ments, while German-American sect continued to use apples, nuts, and marzipan cookies. Popcorn joined in after being dyed bright colors and interlaced with berries and nuts. Electricity brought about Christmas lights, making it possible for Christmas trees to glow for days without end. With this, Christmas trees began to appear in town squares across the country and having a Christmas tree in the home became an American tradition.

Video Game Review

Five Nights at Freddy’s Review By Kyle Tuter

I’m sure you know about this game by now. Five Night’s at Freddy’s is a computer game set in Freddy Fazbear’s, A Chuck E Cheese’s paral-lel. You are the new night guard, working 12 till 6 every night, but there's a twist.

The animatronics roam the hallways, and if they see you, they kill you on the spot. They won’t move if seen on camera and they stop as soon as the camera sees them.

You have limited power each night, and every-thing requires power. Checking the camera, shutting the doors, and keeping the lights on requires power. When the power goes out, two things can happen. You see Freddy’s eyes start to glow outside the door and you will hear a song, if the song is short, Freddy will straight up kill you, but if this song is longer that means you made it to 6am and the night ends.

This game contains a lot of jump scares so be warned.

I like this game and give it 8 out 10

Black Friday Shopping: One Girl’s Opinion by: Amber Prike Black Friday (in the US) “the day after Thanksgiving, noted as the first day of traditional Christmas shopping, during which crowds of consumers are drawn to special offers by retail-ers.” Black Friday is a day of stupidity. It is a day where crowds fill the store just to save a few bucks. Everyone acts like animals and rushes for anything and everything. People have died because of the greed black Friday brings out. It’s sickening and disturbing to see the greed and animalistic ways of humans. It’s disgusting how suddenly a store becomes a battlefield. I find this day to be another sign that we are all doomed because of greed, and want, and stupidity. Black Friday is a day where people lose their humanity, their feelings, and their common sense. We become a shell of a body filled with the need to get anything and everything, filled with greed and violence, want and need. People become territorial over their carts as if a lion has taking over their body and the cart was their pride. Black Friday is a day that everyone stops caring for others and goes mad. If you do participate in Black Friday Shopping, then make an extra effort to be kind to people that day. Be kind to the other shoppers and the retail employees who are working so hard. Be kind to the people in the parking lot who are looking for a parking space. And maybe, be kind to yourself and just stay home and spend time with your family.

Dear Martin Advice Column Dear Martin,

I don’t like riding the bus. I know I have to because my mom can’t pick me up, but it is

so loud and I don’t really know anyone on my bus. Any tips on how I can make it bet-

ter?

-Lonely Bus Rider

Dear Lonely Bus Rider, I've had similar problems in the past, so here's some advice. First, bring something to keep you occupied and distracted from all the noise. Second, try to get to know the people on the bus; you could talk to them, listen to them, and try to find something in common with them. Last but not least, some friendly advice, just remember that it could be worse, not everybody has what you have. If you remember these things I’m sure you will be ok. Now get out there and do your best!

They have been working hard in putting the houses together and getting them done. They have already put some of them up around town. These are some things that Coach Cox said about his e-time and how things have come out. What has been your favorite part of this e-time? The way the bird houses have come out. What are some other ways that your e-time could give back to our school or community? By helping around town and volunteering at community things. 7 Compliments to 1 Insult by Xaveria Conley

Bullying is real. It is a problem that can lead to sadness, isolation, depression and more. Think of how it would feel to be made fun of every single day by at least 10 people because of your weight. The thing is, your parents can't afford to buy healthy food like you need. You have to eat the junk food. What would it feel like to be laughed at because you don't have the latest iPhone? And I know that sounds stupid, but I have heard it. A lot more than I should. Maybe you laughed at someone who didn't pull up their pants. That is very mean. But we all have done it. Its “normal” now days. But it isn't good. Think about if that was you who’s parents may not have been able to get you new jeans that fit right at the beginning of the school year. What if everyone laughed. Do you see how it adds up? We have 8 classes plus lunch. If 3 people laugh at that person in each class, and 10 at lunch, that's 34 in one day. If abiding by the 7 to one 1 compliment insult rule, that's 238 compliments. Even the most playful of insults can be hurtful. For example, one of your friends may laugh at a shirt you are wearing. But you really like it. It may make you feel like you are “unstylish” or “fashionably out of date” Those aren't good feelings. Maybe you read that and thought, I haven't made fun of anybody. But I bet you have heard a juicy secret from a friend and spread the word to someone else. That’s gossip. It can be just as damaging as hitting someone or making fun of them. I used to be the biggest gossiper. I always knew the best topic. But then someone started a rumor about me. It hurt. It wasn't true. I changed my outlook. I only talked about things I heard if it was about a person who I knew and if I knew the gossip was true. I thought. That isn't right. Why miss out on my life and take my time to talk about someone else? What if my best friend found out I told Sara Lee about her new boyfriend? It would hurt her. I came to the realization that talking about others at all is wrong. It is hurtful. So if you’re reading this, and you feel guilty about laughing at someone, or telling a secret, please think. Think about if you were the bullied. It would hurt. So why do it to others?

Loveland’s E-Time: Tiger T.V. By Ella O’Conner and R.S. Burk

Seventh and eight graders in the Willard Middle School have been given the task of giving back to the Willard Community. We interviewed some groups

of seventh graders in Mrs. Loveland’s E-time on their projects. Here are the questions for the groups and their answers:

Question #1: What is your group doing to help the Willard community?

Noah Pfeiffer - “We have organized a food drive to where each team is to bring in certain items for their team. Then, we’ll go around and collect the item

from the teams and count them up.”

Mikayla Peterson - “ My group is creating ornaments to give out and giving away free hugs to everyone who needs their day to be brighter.”

Canton Post - “ We have organized a project called ‘Selfie for a Cause’. It is an organization where you would take a selfie with a canned food or a

donation and then they’d post it on Facebook or Instagram.”

Question #2: What has been your favorite part of this E-time?

Reese Dawson - “I think it would have to be working in groups and watching to see how much students care about helping the Willard community .

Mikayla Peterson -“Working in groups, definitely working in groups. It gives the students a chance to get to know one another on a friendship basis.”

Canton Post - “Acting. The acting part has to be the best part. It’s fun seeing the way people grab others attention.”

Question #3: What has been the most challenging part?

Noah Pfeiffer - “Getting your group members to stay on task. It’s challenging when you are in the same group as you are, and they get off top ic.”

Mikayla Peterson- - “Keeping the group on task is really challenging. They get off topic sometimes, but they get back on it pretty quickly.”

Canton Post - “The hardest thing is getting focused to get things done. Oh, and remembering lines on top of that.”

Question #4: What are some other ways that you could give back to our school or community?

Reese Dawson - “You could get involved in the food pantry for starters. To go further, you could help out with other organizations in the Wi llard com-

munity, such as running 5k’s or go to the school games and cheer them on.”

Mikayla Peterson - “Well, you could rake leaves for a neighbor or shovel snow or salt steps.”

Canton Post - “By helping school staff and just by being, all-around respectful to others.”

The light display eTime is a hard-working, joyful bunch of students

who have been working hard on creating lights for the holiday. In

Mr. Brabo’s class we interviewed two of the students. They were

both asked five questions: How is your eTime giving back to the

Willard Community? What project are you working on with your

eTime? What has been your favorite part of this eTime? What has

been the most challenging part? & What are some other ways that

you could give back to our school or community? Below are their

answers.

Adora Sneed: “ We are setting up light displays throughout the

town to light up the community. Our group is making our own light

displays. We have decided to make a family of penguins. My favor-

ite thing has been being able to use my artistic ability and working

with my friends. I think the most challenging part has been trying to

own up to our own standards. Ways that we could give back to our

school could be showing our appreciation to Willard, like saying thank you to our teachers or giving someone a compliment. “

Jack Miller: “Our eTime is giving back to the Willard community by inspiring joyful Christmas spirit.T he project our eTime is

working on is setting up Christmas lights to inspire Christmas spirit. My favorite part of this eTime has been the group collabora-

tion. The most challenging part has probably been getting to crunch time and trying to put it all together. Some other ways that I

think we could give back to our school or community can be by spreading ideas of ways we could be helpful to others.”

As you can see, the light display e-Time is a group of wonderful, thoughtful students who are very creative. This e-Time will light

our community with Christmas spirit!!
