SoIprophesiedasIhadbeencommanded;andasIprophesied,suddenlytherewasanoise,arattling,andthebonescametogether,bonetoitsbone.Ilooked,andthereweresinewsonthem,andfleshhadcomeuponthem,andskinhadcoveredthem;buttherewasnobreathinthem.Thenhesaidtome,“Prophesytothebreath,prophesy,mortal,andsaytothebreath:ThussaystheLordGOD:Comefromthefourwinds,Obreath,andbreatheupontheseslain,thattheymaylive.”Iprophesiedashecommandedme,andthebreathcameintothem,andtheylived,andstoodontheirfeet,avastmultitude.

WhenthedayofPentecosthadcome,thediscipleswerealltogetherinoneplace.Andsuddenlyfromheaventherecameasoundliketherushofaviolentwind,anditfilledtheentirehousewheretheyweresitting.Dividedtongues,asoffire,appearedamongthem,andatonguerestedoneachofthem.AllofthemwerefilledwiththeHolySpiritandbegantospeakinotherlanguages,astheSpiritgavethemability.

NowthereweredevoutJewsfromeverynationunderheavenlivinginJerusalem.Andatthissoundthecrowdgatheredandwasbewildered,becauseeachoneheardthemspeakinginthenativelanguageofeach.Amazedandastonished,theyasked,"ArenotallthesewhoarespeakingGalileans?Andhowisitthatwehear,eachofus,inourownnativelanguage?Parthians,Medes,

Elamites,andresidentsofMesopotamia,JudeaandCappadocia,PontusandAsia,PhrygiaandPamphylia,EgyptandthepartsofLibyabelongingtoCyrene,andvisitorsfromRome,bothJewsandproselytes,CretansandArabs--inourownlanguageswehearthemspeakingaboutGod'sdeedsofpower."Allwereamazedandperplexed,sayingtooneanother,"Whatdoesthismean?"Butotherssneeredandsaid,"Theyarefilledwithnewwine."

ButPeter,standingwiththeeleven,raisedhisvoiceandaddressedthem,"MenofJudeaandallwholiveinJerusalem,letthisbeknowntoyou,andlistentowhatIsay.Indeed,thesearenotdrunk,asyousuppose,foritisonlynineo'clockinthemorning.No,thisiswhatwasspokenthroughtheprophetJoel:

`Inthelastdaysitwillbe,Goddeclares,thatIwillpouroutmySpirituponallflesh,andyoursonsandyourdaughtersshallprophesy,andyouryoungmenshallseevisions,andyouroldmenshalldreamdreams.Evenuponmyslaves,bothmenandwomen,inthosedaysIwillpouroutmySpirit;andtheyshallprophesy.AndIwillshowportentsintheheavenaboveandsignsontheearthbelow,blood,andfire,andsmokymist.Thesunshallbeturnedtodarknessandthemoontoblood,beforethecomingoftheLord'sgreatandgloriousday.TheneveryonewhocallsonthenameoftheLordshallbesaved.'

“Ididnotsaythesethingstoyoufromthebeginning,becauseIwaswithyou.ButnowIamgoingtohimwhosentme;yetnoneofyouasksme,‘Whereareyougoing?’ButbecauseIhavesaidthesethingstoyou,sorrowhasfilledyourhearts.NeverthelessItellyouthetruth:itistoyouradvantagethatIgoaway,

forifIdonotgoaway,theAdvocatewillnotcometoyou;butifIgo,Iwillsendhimtoyou.Andwhenhecomes,hewillprovetheworldwrongaboutsinandrighteousnessandjudgment:aboutsin,becausetheydonotbelieveinme;aboutrighteousness,becauseIamgoingtotheFatherandyouwillseemenolonger;aboutjudgment,becausetherulerofthisworldhasbeencondemned.
