Michael T Cavanaugh DVM DABVP (CF) graduated from the Kansas State University

College of Veterinary Medicine in 1983 He became the

chief executive officer

of the American Animal

Hospital Association

(AAHA) in January 2010

As such Cavanaugh is

responsible for AAHArsquos

national headquarters

located in Denver Colo

where he oversees a staff

of 75 the annual budget

in excess of $11 million

and carries out the associationrsquos programs and policies

He also represents AAHA on the board of the National

Commission on Veterinary Economic Issues (NCVEI) and

at the North American Veterinary Medical Educational

Consortium

Cavanaugh practiced at AAHA-accredited hospitals

including West Ridge Animal Hospital in Topeka Kan

which he opened in 1988 During his practice years he

was active in organized veterinary medicine and held

numerous volunteer leadership and committee positions

within AAHA He became a diplomate of the American

Board of Veterinary Practitioners (Canine and Feline) in

1996 and later recertified in 2006 He gained valuable

experience in the animal health industry working with

several organizations including Pfizer Animal Health

where he was director of veterinary hospital services

In 2002 Cavanaugh received the Alumni Recognition

Award from Kansas State University and in 2009 he

was named Industry Partner of the Year by the Colorado

Veterinary Medical Association He is an affiliate faculty

member in the department of clinical sciences at the

Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine

and Biomedical Sciences

Jorge L Coloacuten DVM attended Cornell

University where he obtained his Bachelor of Science

degree in 1992 and his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine

degree in 1995 He is a

current MBA student at

Colorado State Universityrsquos

College of Business Online

Originally from San

Juan Puerto Rico Coloacuten

has spent his entire

professional veterinary

career in Lexington Ky

as an equine ambulatory veterinarian concentrating

in the areas of equine reproduction neonatology and

thoroughbred sales As a solo equine practitioner since

2004 Coloacuten has developed a deep understanding

of the equine small business practice model and has

concentrated his profitability creation efforts through

the practice of lean process management specifically

through the lean management of inventory supplies

and financial benefit analysis of distributor specials and

promotions He is also a private veterinary business

consultant for Zoetis Animal Health amp Fee Technologyrsquos

Profit Solver and the business manager for his wifersquos

advertising franchise business

Coloacuten has been a frequent speaker at American

Association of Equine Practitioners conventions on

topics arising from personal clinical veterinary research

as well as business topics on lean inventory and solo

practice management His personal favorite being the

topic on how to run a profitable solo equine ambulatory

practice while being a full-time husband and dad Above

all Coloacuten guides his professional careers and personal

life under his creed of ldquoyour personal philosophy molds

the attitude that guides your actions which help turn

dreams into reality by conquering opportunities and

achieving your goalsrdquo

of the Beverage Business Institute and founderdirector

of the Center for Professional Development and Business

Research and the Institute of

Transportation Management

at Colorado State University

Francis has taught

classes at the graduate

and undergraduate

level served as the chair

of the Department of

Management owned

operated two small

businesses and worked for

a Fortune 100 firm in training planning and organization

development As a management consultant in the private

and public sectors he has given talks and conducted

seminars for a wide variety of businesses and organizations

on topics of strategic management management of change

and implementation of organization development His

clients have included universities city governments state

and federal agencies and companies such as Hewlett-

Packard ATampT Johns Manville Coors McDonalds Walmart

and Dun amp Bradstreet Francis is a member of the advisory

board for the Better Business Bureau Foundation and

has served on boards of directors and advisory councils

for corporations public institutions and not-for-profit

organizations He is currently the national president of Sigma

Iota Epsilon the professional and student honorary of the

Academy of Management

Francis is involved in the management of intercollegiate

athletics and serves as Colorado Statersquos NCAA faculty athletic

representative He has been a member of the NCAA Council

the secretarytreasurer and member of the board of directors

of the College Football Association and the president of the

Mountain-Pacific Sports Federation He holds a PhD and MA

from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in Management

Brian Fugate PhD is an assistant professor of

supply chain management at Colorado State University

He has worked in the logistics and industrial engineering

fields in the airline and

automotive industries

Subsequently he has

performed consulting

and education services in

logistics LEAN processes

forecasting and supply

chain information systems

Fugatersquos research interests

include logistics strategy

and performance and

managing information flows in the supply chain His

research has appeared in the Supply Chain Management

Review Journal of Business Logistics Journal of

Fugate has been awarded the Schneider Corporation

Goodman is a principal innovator and guide for Starizon

Studio He has extensive experience with creative

Hewlett Packard PBS Discovery Channel and MGM

Grand Hotel where his roles ranged from expert

consultant to strategic planning advisor to marketing

strategist He is a leadership experience design and

organizational change navigation guide for large health

care networks in California Washington Ohio and

Pennsylvania Goodman received the global EXPY Award

as the Experience Design and Stager of the Year for his

work with the engineering and community planning firm

TST Inc Hersquos been a keynote speaker and leadership

guide for Emerging Leaders of Colorado The Future of

Engineering in Los Angeles The Future of Heath Care

Design in Nashville and more

Michael Hargrove DVM was raised in

Colorado and is a three-time graduate of Colorado State

University where he received a BS in 1988 a DVM in

1991 and an MBA in 2001

Since 1991 Hargrove

has been a small animal

practitioner and in 1994 he

became a partner at North

Shore Veterinary Hospital

a six-doctor small animal

practice in Duluth Minn

Today he is the sole owner

of North Shore Veterinary

Hospital a practice that

has been AAHA-accredited for 35 years In addition to

his clinical and ownership duties Hargrove works as a

management consultant with Summit Veterinary Advisors

specializing in practice valuations for veterinarians who

are buying or selling veterinary practices He is also a

shareholder in an emergency practice that has seven

locations throughout the state of Minnesota

Hargrove is a member of the National Association of

Certified Valuation Analysts and is a member of the

Veterinary Valuation Resource Council of Vet Partners

a professional organization of veterinary practice

management consultants He also has served on the

Board of Governors of the Affiliated Emergency Veterinary

Service since the fall of 2008 and currently is serving as

president of that organization

Hargrove has presented locally and nationally on a wide

variety of veterinary management topics

He has a son Ethan a cat ldquoCrashrdquo and a few fish

Doug Hoffman DBA received his DBA in

Marketing with a minor in Statistics from University of

Kentucky Hoffman is a professor of marketing in the

College of Business

with undergraduate

and graduate teaching

experiences spanning

nearly 25 years He

has held tenure track

positions at Colorado

State University the

University of North Carolina

at Wilmington and

Mississippi State University

In addition Hoffman has taught as a visiting professor

at the Helsinki School of Business and Economics

(Helsinki Finland) the Institute of Industrial Policy Studies

(Seoul South Korea) Thammasat University (Bangkok

Thailand) and Cornell-Nanyang Technological University

(Singapore)

Hoffman has co-authored three academic textbooks

including Services Marketing Concepts Strategies amp Cases

(4e) published by Cengage As an accomplished scholar

in the services marketing area Hoffman has written articles

in dozens of journals on teaching scholarship appearing

in a variety of publications including Journal of Marketing

Education Marketing Education Review Journal of

Services Marketing and Innovative Higher Education

Hoffman was named editor of Marketing Education Review

in 2010 and is the founder of Colorado State Universityrsquos

Master Teacher Initiative (MTI) The MTI has been adopted

by all nine colleges on the CSU campus and is a recognized

benchmark for other universities to follow

Hoffman has received 15 teaching awards at the college

university and national discipline levels including the

prestigious Board of Governors Excellence in Undergraduate

Teaching Award He also received a lifetime appointment as

a University Distinguished Teaching Scholar in 2007 and is a

Partners in Excellence Fellow

Tracey Jensen DVM DABVP (CF) CVA served as AAHArsquos 2015-16 president She earned

her DVM from Colorado State University CSU in 1996

Since 1999 Jensen

has owned Wellington

Veterinary Hospital in

Wellington Colo AAHA

accredited since 2008

Wellington Veterinary

Hospital is a three-doctor

small animal practice

located in northern

Colorado In 2012 the

practice received the

AAHA-Accredited Practice of the Year Award and the

Veterinary Economics Hospital Design Merit Award

Jensen was elected to the Council of Regents for the

American Board of Veterinary Practitioners in 2011 Active in

her community Jensen volunteers with veterinary students

at CSU helping to train them through externship programs

She has also co-authored multiple publications

Sam Romano DVM earned his DVM from

Colorado State University in 1983 and his MBA in 2000

He is a longtime member of the American Animal Hospital

Association and the

Veterinary Emergency and

Critical Care Society and

served as president of the

Denver Area Veterinary

Medical Society Romano

has owned and managed

Central Veterinary

Emergency Services

located in the VRCC

Veterinary Specialty and

Emergency Hospital in Englewood Colo since 1992

Prior to his association with CVES and VRCC Romano was in

small animal general practice from 1983 to 1991 in Denver

When not engaged in the pursuit of lifelong learning

Romano enjoys spending time with his family skiing golfing

fishing and taking Sophie his fox terrier for walks

Steve Medland spent more than 20 years leading

consulting teaching and learning operations in both

lean management and supply chain related practices in

industries as varied as metal

fabrication and machining

to grocery retail His roles

have included director

of distribution center

operations sales manager

purchasing manager and

inventory analyst

In addition to his work in

manufacturing Medland

enjoys applying lean management principles and

other best practices to non-manufacturing processes

in the supply chain such as customer interface supply

management inventory management and distribution

He is on the W3 Group team which focuses on

implementing lean systems for clients and is a faculty

member on the Lean Enterprise Institute Some of

Medlandrsquos past clients include BE Aerospace GKN Merck

Medland received his MBA in Supply Chain Management

from the University of Wisconsin-Madison He teaches

supply chain and operations management at Colorado

State University in the College of Business and the

College of Engineering He also teaches to professionals

in the nationally renowned Beverage Business Institute

and the Center for Professional Development and

Business Research Medland previously taught at the

University of Oregon the University of Colorado-Boulder

and the Bainbridge Graduate Institute

Jane R Shaw DVM PhD is a recognized

expert in veterinarian-client-patient interactions

Her dissertation was the first scientific study of

veterinarian-client-patient

communication and her

publications focus on the

analysis of videotaped

conversations between

veterinarians and their

clients and animal patients

Of interest is studying

the relationship between

communication and

clinical outcomes for

veterinarians clients and patients including satisfaction

adherence and patient health

Dr Shaw is an associate professor of veterinary

communication and the director of the Argus Institute

at Colorado State University Dr Shaw received her

veterinary degree from Michigan State University in 1994

and received her PhD in Epidemiology at the University

of Guelph in Ontario Canada in 2004 Dr Shaw was the

recipient of the 2008 Bustad Award recognizing her

contributions to enhancing the relationship between

people and their pets and the Colorado Veterinary

Medical Association Outstanding Faculty of the Year

Award in 2011

Dr Shaw implements the communication curriculum

at Colorado State University focusing on clinical

interviewing skills to enhance professional performance

through partnership with colleagues and clients She

serves on the advisory committee for the International

Conference on Communication in Veterinary Medicine

Dr Shaw is called upon internationally and nationally

to conduct skills-based communication workshops at

veterinary conferences and symposia She consults with

veterinary practices to enhance teamwork continuity of

care and client service

Victoria Wagner began her career with Eastman

Kodak in 1978 as an accountant based at the Rochester

NY Kodak Park manufacturing site While there she

held a variety of financial

and supervisory positions

serving a wide variety of

client organizations In

1988 she relocated to

Columbus Ga where

she was a member of a

start-up team for a joint

venture between Kodak

and Matsushita LTD

(aka Panasonic) In 1992

Wagner moved to Colorado and continued her career

in finance at Kodakrsquos Windsor manufacturing site Kodak

Colorado Division where she provided financial support

to each of the sitersquos major manufacturing divisions

In 2003 she became finance director for the Kodak

Colorado Division then a $500 million business employing

more than 1500 people Wagner was named director of

site strategy in 2008 and was tasked with developing a

strategy so the Colorado site could respond to industry

declines The multi-year multi-million-dollar project

involved the demolition of one square mile of vacant

manufacturing space and the sale of the remaining vacant

land for future redevelopment The project provided the

remaining businesses with a competitive advantage as

the low cost producer of the products manufactured at

the site During project implementation she was promoted

to plant manager Kodak Colorado Division Upon

completion of the project and after nearly 34 years with

the company Wagner retired

In January 2013 Wagner was hired by the University

of Colorado Health as the director of performance

improvement for their Northern Region There she leads the

organizationrsquos Lean Transformation to improve business

results in preparation for the impacts of health care reform

on the industry In addition she provides business and

finance training and consulting services and is actively

involved in the creation of a cancer center in Fort Collins

completion of the project and after nearly 34 years with

NY Kodak Park manufacturing site While there she

held a variety of financial

start-up team for a joint

venture between Kodak

and Matsushita LTD

(aka Panasonic) In 1992

Wagner moved to Colorado and continued her career

in finance at Kodakrsquos Windsor manufacturing site Kodak

Colorado Division where she provided financial support

to each of the sitersquos major manufacturing divisions

In 2003 she became finance director for the Kodak

Colorado Division then a $500 million business employing

more than 1500 people Wagner was named director of

site strategy in 2008 and was tasked with developing a

strategy so the Colorado site could respond to industry

declines The multi-year multi-million-dollar project

involved the demolition of one square mile of vacant

manufacturing space and the sale of the remaining vacant

land for future redevelopment The project provided the

remaining businesses with a competitive advantage as

the low cost producer of the products manufactured at

the site During project implementation she was promoted

to plant manager Kodak Colorado Division Upon

completion of the project and after nearly 34 years with

the company Wagner retired

In January 2013 Wagner was hired by the University

of Colorado Health as the director of performance

improvement for their Northern Region There she leads the

organizationrsquos Lean Transformation to improve business

results in preparation for the impacts of health care reform

on the industry In addition she provides business and

finance training and consulting services and is actively

involved in the creation of a cancer center in Fort Collins

Wagner moved to Colorado and continued her career

to each of the sitersquos major manufacturing divisions

In 2003 she became finance director for the Kodak

Colorado Division then a $500 million business employing

more than 1500 people Wagner was named director of

site strategy in 2008 and was tasked with developing a

strategy so the Colorado site could respond to industry

declines The multi-year multi-million-dollar project

involved the demolition of one square mile of vacant

manufacturing space and the sale of the remaining vacant

land for future redevelopment The project provided the

remaining businesses with a competitive advantage as

the low cost producer of the products manufactured at

the site During project implementation she was promoted

to plant manager Kodak Colorado Division Upon

completion of the project and after nearly 34 years with

the company Wagner retired

In January 2013 Wagner was hired by the University

of Colorado Health as the director of performance

improvement for their Northern Region There she leads the

organizationrsquos Lean Transformation to improve business

results in preparation for the impacts of health care reform

on the industry In addition she provides business and

finance training and consulting services and is actively

involved in the creation of a cancer center in Fort Collins

Michael T Cavanaugh DVM DABVP (CF) graduated from the Kansas State University

College of Veterinary Medicine in 1983 He became the

chief executive officer

of the American Animal

Hospital Association

(AAHA) in January 2010

As such Cavanaugh is

national headquarters

located in Denver Colo

Cavanaugh practiced at AAHA-accredited hospitals

declines The multi-year multi-million-dollar project

involved the demolition of one square mile of vacant

manufacturing space and the sale of the remaining vacant

land for future redevelopment The project provided the

remaining businesses with a competitive advantage as

the low cost producer of the products manufactured at

the site During project implementation she was promoted

to plant manager Kodak Colorado Division Upon

completion of the project and after nearly 34 years with

the company Wagner retired

In January 2013 Wagner was hired by the University

of Colorado Health as the director of performance

improvement for their Northern Region There she leads the

organizationrsquos Lean Transformation to improve business

results in preparation for the impacts of health care reform

on the industry In addition she provides business and

finance training and consulting services and is actively

involved in the creation of a cancer center in Fort Collins
