Stephen F. Austin State University 1984-2004 (Nacogdoches, TX) Professor of Social Work 2002-2004; Director, School of Social Work & Associate Dean: 1998-2002; Chair of Department: 1986-1997; Assistant Professor: 1984-1986. Teaching areas: Social Policy, Social Work Practice, Field Instruction, Human Behavior & the Social Environment, Rural Social Work, and Social Research Methods. During administrative tenure, the Social Work department grew from a BSW program with two faculty and 128 majors (1986) to a professional School of Work with combined BSW and MSW programs, fourteen faculty, reaching 258 undergraduate majors and 45 graduate students. Secured funding and authority to build a new School of Social Work Building 200-2002, planned the design, and supervised the furnishing and move moved to the building in 2002. The BSW and MSW program were accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. Several sources of external funding were secured for the School of Social Work. These include a Title IV-E contract with the Texas Department of Protective and Regulatory Services, Special Item funding from the Texas Legislature, and two grants from the Houston Endowment Inc.

Administrative duties included: administration of departmental budget, hiring, supervision, and evaluation of departmental faculty and staff, teaching, administration of the MSW program, student services, research, program review, and committee assignments. Additionally, there was supervisory responsibility for the completion of two CSWE self-studies for reaffirmation of accreditation.

In 1989 - developed the Master of Social Work proposal for the University. This

MSW proposal was approved by the Board of Regents in 1990 and by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board in 1994. The program had an advanced generalist concentration with a rural focus. The program began in fall 1996 and was appointed Director of the MSW program in August 1996.

University of Texas at Austin 1976-78 (Austin, TX) Research Associate at the Center for Social Work Research. Duties included supervision of data collection for surveys, statistical analysis of data, and writing research reports. Participated in research that analyzed the career development of MSW graduates, collected descriptive data on local governmental evaluation activities, and a program evaluation of a large residential treatment facility for children. Harris County Child Welfare Unit (Houston, TX) 1971-76 Supervisor for a unit of eight bachelors level caseworkers, one case aide, and secretary. (1975-76) Supervised an intake unit for children's protective services that operated during non-traditional hours. The workers took reports and delivered emergency services as appropriate. Supervisory duties involved developing and staffing the unit, supervision and evaluation of staff, development of policies and procedures, and developing relationships with community agencies. Caseworker in children's protective services unit.
