FROM THE PROVINCIAL’S DESK HARMONY FORUM - A TIMELY VENTURE My Dear Friends in the Lord, I am glad to inform you the Dialogue Ministry Team of the Province has launched a Harmony Forum on 2 October 2021. Using the social media, it plans to periodically post messages that reflect harmony, drawing from Christianity and other world religions. It is a small step, true, but a significant one at this juncture of history. Counter forces need to be mobilized to face growing fundamentalism, intolerance and hatred in society. Distorted religious convictions and dissemination of half truths add fuel to the fire. No easy solution is in sight. Constant vigilance with creative ventures alone can help. Promotion of peace and harmony has to become part of our way of life. That is the spirit of the call of GC 36 to be companions in a mission of reconciliation and justice. We are at the threshold of our Province Congregation. As part of remote preparation, I have initiated a process of group reflection in small ministry teams along with the Consultors and Apostolic Monitoring Team. It is meant to examine our ministries from the perspective of the Universal Apostolic Preferences and Province Apostolic Preferences. The online platforms helps easy participation. I notice that great work has been done by our ministry teams using the digital platform and with good documentation. May our efforts bear fruit. E.P. Mathew, SJ Provincial VOL. ST MICHAEL’S, KANNURFr Kallepallil, our superior, crossed his 78th birthday on 22nd September. He is quite agile and active even as a septuagenarian. He has lately taken up some developmental projects for the school such as providing state- of-the art toilets for senior students and making the auditorium audience worthy by attending to its eco- problem and making the roof leak proof.Last year, due to the pandemic covid-19, we didn’t have any celebration for the feast of our heavenly patron, St Michael. On 29th September we had a concelebrated mass at 11 am followed by felicitation by the staff and a sumptuous lunch for the entire school staff thereby strengthening our solidarity and solicitude for the Michaelite family.

with a spiritually nourishing recollection directed by Fr T.V. Antony on the theme gratitude. On 5th of September, Vidyaniketan was blessed with the presence of Fr E.P. Mathew our Provincial. RinsThe South Indian Common Juniorate (SICJ) for the four Southern Jesuit Provinces - Andhra, Karnataka, Kerala and Madurai - was located at Beschi College, Dindigul from its inception in July 1982 to April 1993. Since June 1993, it has been functioning at St Xavier’s campus, Thiruvananthapuram. In 1997, the SICJ was christened Vidyaniketan. In 2008 the Silver Jubilee was celebrated recalling the eleven years in Beschi and fourteen years in Trivandrum. From 2016 Vidyaniketan became a national level programme. Due to COVID-19 this was suspended for the year 2020-2021. It was restarted in July 2021 and the new Chennai Province was added to SICJ. This Common Juniorate comprising Staff and Juniors from five regional, linguistic and cultural backgrounds fused together to form a harmonious religious community which, to some extent, reflects and conveys the sense of the universality of the Society of Jesus. From June 1990, the methodology adopted in teaching in the Juniorate is interactive and participatory. The students are divided into small groups and are personally guided by the members of the staff in study skills, reading, writing and oral communication. This methodology of group-oriented and student – centred approach is not confined to the academic sphere alone, but is also extended to every activity, exercise and celebration in the Juniorate to make of each achievement and success on campus a happy blend of individual initiative and group enterprise in the larger context of the growth of the

Junior “as a person in intellectual, spiritual, affective, social and cultural dimensions in the spirit of Ignatian Magis”.As a zonal level programme the South Zone Provincials provide the Staff and Juniors and update the facilities from time to time. Apart from the resident Staff, visiting Staff members come to enrich the Juniors with different courses. Over the years course correction has been done and the curriculum duly updated and customized to suit young learners. So far more than eight hundred Juniors have gone through the portals of this temple of learning and some of them come back as young staff to continue the legacy. May their tribe increase!
