President’s Message We have recently installed 3 new
surveillance cameras in the Clubhouse. They join the
exis<ng cameras to help monitor and secure the
Clubhouse and outside areas. The three new cameras
are on the lower level outside the Golf Shop
including the pa<o area, the Kitchen, and the U<lity
Room behind the Kitchen. This now makes it possible to
see the swimming pool, outside doors, and the interior
of the Clubhouse. The cameras record ac<vity and the
records are kept on a DVR so they can be reviewed if
necessary.
I have been asked about the “rock pile” in the lower
lobby. We started to redo this area but have put it on
hold while we consider a project that would require
using this area in a different way. There was no reason
to spend money for a short term fix. We hope to have it
resolved quickly.
Strange things have been happening in the upper
lobby. Plants, real and fake, are appearing and others
are being moved . Furniture is being moved and in some
cases lamps and vases are gone or have mul<plied in
number. Please do not change, add to, or remove items
from the Clubhouse without going to the Clubhouse
CommiLee with your idea. If you are inclined to do this
without approval, I would reference the first paragraph
in this ar<cle.

For pet owners, it is a joy to walk
your pet. Pet owners are reminded
that there is a restric<on in the
Summerfield CC&Rs that prohibits
dogs and cats from roaming at large.
When walking your dog or cat, you
are responsible for the removal of
animal droppings. This has been a
con<nuing problem in our beau<ful
Summerfield neighborhood. The
next <me you take your pet for a
walk, put a couple of disposal bags
in your pocket for proper waste
cleanup. Your fellow residents will
definitely appreciate your diligence
and coopera<on. Or you could offer
the bags to somebody that may

Revising the Summerfield CC&Rs For the past year the SCA Board of Directors has supported an ad hoc
CommiLee to study the current Condi<ons, Convents and Restric<ons
(CC&Rs) document and recommend revisions. The Board felt that some of
the restric<ons were out of date and needed to be updated to reflect
current trends in homeowner’s associa<ons. The CommiLee has
presented to the Board a revised document and the Board has decided to
hold an elec<on of the Summerfield Proprietary Members to either
approve or disapprove this revision of the CC&Rs.
The biggest change addresses occupancy. The current language in Sec<on
1.9 no longer reflects the reality of our community nor can it be supported
if challenged. While we will s<ll remain an age 55+ community, with
nobody under age 18, the rela<onship piece to occupancy is modified.
Another change is with regard to signage and added references to the new
Architectural/Landscape Manual that was approved last year. A third
change is an increase in the late fee for the annual assessments that are
not paid on <me. These are the three most no<ceable changes. In
addi<on, there are some minor language changes and reordering of words
to make the document more accurate. The language of the three
Amendments – one restric<ng rentals and two that address the New
Buyer Fee - will be incorporated into the text of the document.
First, we will provide every Proprietary Member with a copy of the
proposed revision, and second, we will provide several opportuni<es for
residents to ask ques<ons and clarify what these changes mean. There
will be informa<on provided in future newsleLers, at a Town Hall mee<ng
and at various other neighborhood, Club and CommiLee mee<ngs. Our
current plan is to hold the elec<on in September in much the same
manner as the elec<on last year addressing the New Buyers Fee.

If your property (private home, townhouse, or condominium) is
immediately adjacent to the golf course, it is the property owner’s
responsibility to maintain the transi<on between where the golf course
mowers cut and your property line. You also have a responsibility to keep
hedges, trees, bushes and any other vegeta<on trimmed so that
vegeta<on does not extend into the play area of the golf course which is
defined by the white “out of bounds (OB)” stakes placed around the
periphery of the golf course. Please help us keep the course as
presentable as we can and help the grounds crew as much as we can. If
you have a ques<on about your property’s transi<on with the course,
report your ques<on to the SCA Office and we will be willing to review
your situa<on with you.

One confusing rule that seems to come up early in the swim

youth, so no babies and no youths s<ll in diapers are allowed in

The month of June brings us to the end of The
Symphony lecture series as we enter the
twen<eth century. In the 1920s we find that
American concert music is beginning to
emerge and the “American spirit” of the <me
captured in the works of Aaron Copland,
Samuel Barber and Charles Ives.
I am sure that you will find the stories of
Copland’s and Barber’s beginnings as
fascina<ng as I did. They represent the new

We will be sorry to see our lecturer, Dr. Robert
Greenberg, “go”. His profound knowledge of
music and his humor, has made this course
educa<onal as well as extremely enjoyable!
However, he won’t be gone too long because
he will be returning next January when we
study “The Opera”.
The two lecture series for the months of July

and “Scien<fic Secrets for a Powerful

Garden Club While all exercise can be beneficial, some<mes doing it
on your own or just to a video, and not with a
cer<fied trained instructor, may pose risks as there is
no one there qualified to assist you. Are you going
beyond your physical limita<ons and poten<ally doing
yourself more harm than good?
Pamela Olzman, 503.320.5150, is a Licensed Cerfied
Professionally Trained Instructor. She will be guiding
you through Qigong exercises and Adapve Yoga.
You will receive individual instruc<on and learn safe
alignment and proper form based on your individual
needs and flexibility. Some of the benefits include
improved flexibility, beLer balance, greater range of
mo<on and an enriched golf game. A yoga mat is op<onal
and no previous experience is needed. Classes are held in
the Lakeview Room & Ballroom every Tuesday, 11:45 AM
to 12:45 PM.
