Smart Factory (a recap)

5S Lean Management

Industry 4.0

Adding automation and data exchange to manufacturing technologies. It includes cyber-physical systems, the Internet of things, cloud computing and cognitive computing.

A systematic method for waste minimization "Muda" within a manufacturing system without sacrificing productivity.

5 areas to control Seiri / Sort Seiton / StraightenSeiso / Shine Seiketsu / Standardize Shitsuke / Sustain

There are various methods to optimize manufacturing and reach high efficiency, safety and quality – and each of them can be supported in various ways by Virtual, Augmented and Mixed Reality solutions.

Page 5: VR and AR solutions for Industry 4.0 by ARworks

AR-VR (and MR) Comparison

• Vitual Reality is replacing the surrounding around the user fully while Augmented Reality/Mixed Reality is not, in that case you still see what’s around you in the real world

• Between MR/AR the big difference is that while AR simply adds a usually 2D info layer to the real world – hotspots, explanations, text/number info – MR places a 3D object or any other object in the real world which looks like its really there and actually part of it.

Additional Used technologies

Besides AR/VR, additional new technologies can be added to the solution

• iOT• To present real time data from the physical machine/space on the 3D virtual digital twin

• GPS • To show movements of bigger scale within the factory

• ML• To predict failures – and show their expected occurrence on the Digital Twin.

• AI• To automatically control the manufacturing process

• 5G• To have a 2-5 milisec latency opens up a truly real time remote presence

Starting Point

Page 8: VR and AR solutions for Industry 4.0 by ARworks

The Digital Twin

For most of the ideas, a 3D virtual Digital Twin of the covered part should be prepared

• The twin can be of different scale, depending on the purpose we want to use it. The detail level can be:• Factory• Line• Machine• Product

• Characteristics of the Digital Twin• It’s size is similar to the original one• Its an accurate, animated copy of the original one• Details are depending on the use case• Interactive functions can be added• Real time info can be added

Page 9: VR and AR solutions for Industry 4.0 by ARworks

System structure

Frontend App and Device

• Depending on the solution this can be some type of AR/VR Glass or other smartphones/tables.

Back End Database

• Static

• Storing all the data – numeric, photo, video or 3D – which is presented through the front end device

• Real Time Connection

• The data can be a static one – like the 3D shape of a machine – or a dynamically changing one – like the temperature of the machine

CMS

• Users can edit the data in the system

Network

• The connection between the front and back end is managed by a local, dedicated, usually wireless network

Multiuser

• Some solutions could be avaialable in multiuser mode.

Our concepts includes a front end application running on a VR/AR device and a back end solution, with a connected Content Management System to manage content.

HR

HR can also use a VR solution for various purposes – like on Job Fairs to present the company easily or for efficient Blue or White collar trainings, etc.

• Factory 360 video tourA 360 video recorded in the factory at various places – so when the potential employee watch it through a VR glass he will feel like he is actually there and understand the working environment much better. Can be used on:

• Job fairs• Site visits

• Emergency EvacuationA VR app with a factory 3D model in it is used to train employees to learn how to react and leave the factory within the shortest time – even in smoke, fire or nearly complete darkness.

• SimulatorsTraining line workers, maintenance personnel in simulators so the production don’t have to be stopped for training.

Sales

VR ShowroomOur existing VR showroom is a simple idea –showing all of the client’s products in a virtual space without any limitations in its size.

The app can run in the offices, on expos or at client’s meetings.

We’ve done it for cars and elevators – this one with a special configurator option, too.

Case study: Car - Elevator

AR on site Product demo • There could be situations when showing a real size

product – industrial press, robot, lab equipment, anything – at its future spot in the factory could help the client on his decision.

• An AR based app, containing the 3D model of the product can just do this.

• Case study: ASM, a printed circuit printing machine manufacturer Link

With industrial products, it is usually difficult to show the full modell range – there are usually so many variations, a showroom with all available products could be too expensive. Also bringing the products to sales meetings or exhibitions can be really hard – or simply impossible. VR and AR can solve these problems
