Principal's Report February has come and gone. I know many were very happy to have had the 4 day weekend. First one in a long time. It does not look like we will be getting much snow this winter. We still do have the cold weather, so still watch the forecast so when children go outside, they are prepared. Thank you to all who were able to come to our eLearning Parent meeting. We hope some questions were answered and emotions relieved about eLearning. Not sure when (or if) we will have an eLearning Day this year, but we are ready! Also, thank you to all who were able to come to the Book Fair Family Night, as well as, send in money with your child to purchase books. Proceeds from the Book Fair stay in the Media Center so we can enlarge our collections. The 5/6th grade Girls Basketball teams are in mid-season and doing very well. The girls continue to improve. The 6th Grade B team were Laville Tournament Champions! The 5th and 6th Grade A teams will travel to Oregon-Davis on March 7th for a tournament and then the 5th Grade will travel to North Liberty a week later on March 14th for the NLES Tournament. Good Luck girls! All classes are working hard. The 3rd Grade is preparing for the IREAD 3 Assessment which will take place on March 17/18. Our 3rd graders are going to rock this test! They are ready. Our ILEARN assessments (Grades 3-6) will happen in late April and we will be ready for that test as well. I want to congratulate all who participated in our Science Fair. We had fewer numbers this year, but the projects were phenomenal! Congratulations to the following students who won the Staff Awards: Erin Glennon, Maddox Hernandez, Jake Stanley, Lyric Rivera, Belle Vickers and Colton Vermilyer. Judges Choice Awards were: Francis Hartz, Chole Strang, Anna Knowlton, Kennedy Miller, and Emma Dudeck and Ada Fairchild. Good luck to the following students who will be going to Regional Science Fair at Notre Dame on February 29th: Hayley Chapman, Julian Kellems, Lincoln Reese, Isabella Knowlton and Josie Knowlton. A BIG thank you to Mrs. Maria Knowlton for once again organizing the Science Fair. WALKERTON WILDCAT CONNECTION! MARCH 2020

February has come and gone. I know many were very happy to have had the 4 day

weekend. First one in a long time. It does not look like we will be getting much snow this

winter. We still do have the cold weather, so still watch the forecast so when children go

    outside, they are prepared.

Thank you to all who were able to come to our eLearning Parent meeting. We hope some

questions were answered and emotions relieved about eLearning. Not sure when (or if) we will

have an eLearning Day this year, but we are ready!

Also, thank you to all who were able to come to the Book Fair Family Night, as well as, send in

money with your child to purchase books. Proceeds from the Book Fair stay in the Media

Center so we can enlarge our collections.

The 5/6th grade Girls Basketball teams are in mid-season and doing very well. The girls

continue to improve. The 6th Grade B team were Laville Tournament Champions! The 5th and

6th Grade A teams will travel to Oregon-Davis on March 7th for a tournament and then the 5th

Grade will travel to North Liberty a week later on March 14th for the NLES Tournament. Good

    Luck girls!

All classes are working hard. The 3rd Grade is preparing for the IREAD 3 Assessment which

will take place on March 17/18. Our 3rd graders are going to rock this test! They are

ready. Our ILEARN assessments (Grades 3-6) will happen in late April and we will be ready for

    that test as well.

I want to congratulate all who participated in our Science Fair. We had fewer numbers this year,

but the projects were phenomenal! Congratulations to the following students who won the Staff

Awards: Erin Glennon, Maddox Hernandez, Jake Stanley, Lyric Rivera, Belle Vickers and Colton

Vermilyer. Judges Choice Awards were: Francis Hartz, Chole Strang, Anna Knowlton, Kennedy Miller,

and Emma Dudeck and Ada Fairchild. Good luck to the following students who will be going

to Regional Science Fair at Notre Dame on February 29th: Hayley Chapman, Julian Kellems,

Lincoln Reese, Isabella Knowlton and Josie Knowlton. A BIG thank you to Mrs. Maria

Knowlton for once again organizing the Science Fair.

  • WES 4th, 5th, and 6th Grades present

    A Spring

    Concert

    Thursday, March 19, 2020

7:00 PM (EST) in the WES Gym

Featuring performances by the Walkerton Elementary Choir, and Walkerton 4th,

5th, and 6th Grade General Music Classes

**Families of 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students:

Please see the next page for additional information.

  • Info for 4th, 5th, and 6th Grade Families:

Our Spring Concert is quickly approaching! Below is some important information for you and

    your family as you plan.

Your student’s attendance is expected at the concert as this event counts as a part of their

music class. If your family has a prior conflict or your student becomes ill unexpectedly,

please communicate that with Mrs. Faust.

Please have your student at school at 6:45 PM on Thursday, March 19. Students will

meet at their homeroom classroom at that time. Any of their personal items (including

devices) should be left with you or in lockers - not in classrooms.

If you choose to arrive prior to 6:45 to find seats, please keep your student(s) with you

and under your supervision until 6:45.

What to wear: Students should look their best for our performance. While there is no

specific color or dress code for the occasion, it’s important that we represent ourselves

and our school well. (Think along the lines of “church clothes,” or something you would

wear for a party or special occasion.)

After the concert: At the end of the concert, you will be asked to meet your student in

the respective area of the gym where they are seated. At that point, coats/other items can

be retrieved from lockers if needed.

The concert will be video recorded, so we would appreciate your help in keeping extra

noise and interruptions to a minimum. This recording will be made available to you in the

week or so following the concert.

Thank you for your help and support - we are so excited to showcase what we’ve been working

hard on in music class these past few months!

Please contact Mrs. Faust with any questions or concerns:

  • Crayola ColorCycle

Crayola and schools across North America are banding together to help kids understand the importance of their role in protecting the environment. That’s why we launched Crayola ColorCycle. Through this initiative, students in K-12 schools across the continental United States and parts of Canada can collect and repurpose used Crayola markers.

ColorCycle is also a great opportunity for teachers and their students to explore eco-friendly practices. Specially developed standards-based lesson plans are available to enrich instruction and promote lively class discussions.
