Conferencias de padres y maestros(as). P.A.W.S. Corner with Mr. Nogami Hello, Bulldog Families.

It’s hard to believe that the end of the third quarter is already upon us! Here at Walter

Douglas, our students are working hard to make good choices and follow P.A.W.S. This is shown by the record high

number of PAWSitive referrals earned this month! As you may remember, our school has been working hard to

earn a “Party on the Playground” and I am happy to report the students have earned four days of the seven

needed! We are so close! Please be sure to check in with your child every night. Some things you can ask are:

did you follow P.A.W.S. today, or did you do your homework?

Here’s to a great end of the third quarter and an even better fourth quarter!

Hola Familias Bulldog!

positivos P.A.W.S.

Happy March! There are many things going on this month so please make sure to check your child’s backpack and homework folders and review any highlighted areas on their third quarter test. On March 2nd we will be going on our field trip to Tucson Medical Center for the Teddy Bear Clinic. There will be no school on March 3rd. We will be having parent-teacher conferences on March 9th and 10th, these are half days and the

students will be dismissed at noon so please make sure your child is picked up on time. On March 16th, we will be going to Flowing Wells Junior High School to see a musical, look for the permission slip coming soon in homework folders.

Ms. Reynolds Mrs. Roszko Mrs. Izzo-Johns Ms. Waring

Our first graders have been working very hard and we are excited to see how much more growth they will make

in the next few months. Please remember, it is important that students are reading for the full 20 minutes for

their homework every night so that they are ready for the end of the year DIBELS test and Second grade!

This month our first graders are starting their animal research projects. Research will be completed at

school. Each child will be required to create a display for their animal. Important notes and boards for the

display will be sent home later this month. Any additional research students complete at home for their chosen

animal would be useful. To learn more about animals and habitats, first graders will be taking a field trip to the zoo on March 8th. In

order to go on the field trip, students to need to complete all assignments and homework as well as have good behavior at school.

Our classes are in need of Kleenex and snacks, if you are able to donate, we would greatly appreciate it!

Thank you in advance for your help in making the animal research projects a success!

Miss Jacobson Mrs. Brewer Mrs. Turner Mrs. Vergara

Happy March!

Thank you to all of the chaperones who came with us to help on the Rodeo field trip. We all had a

great time!

Spring parent/ teacher conferences for some students will be held on March 9th or 10th before

school or after 12:20.

Also, thank you to the families that have donated to your child’s classroom! If you have not made a donation, please

consider bringing either a box of tissues or a healthy snack for your child’s classroom. We appreciate your help!

Lastly, please remember to work with your child to complete the reading fluency passage and problem of the month

math homework. Thank you for all that you do to support your child’s education.

Ms. Weigold Mr. Brown Ms. Myrick Mrs. Provencio

Hello Parents! We hope you had a wonderful Rodeo Break! Third grade is

looking forward to the month of March. We have completed our district

assessments in reading and math, and are now on the countdown to our final

AzMERIT state test. This test will be given the last week of March, and will

cover all of the content taught throughout the school year. The best ways to

help prepare your child for this test is to make sure they are on time and at school each day,

completing all homework assignments, and reading a good book each and every night. Finally,

thank you for continuing to work with your child to complete the Reading Reflection Log and

Math Problem Solving each week, and encouraging your child to demonstrate their personal best

each and every day!

Happy March, 4th grade families! We appreciate all of your support in helping your child meet their DAP

goals by practicing their reading and math facts with them. Math Masters are highly celebrated in the classroom and students work very hard!! All of your help at home making sure your child has completed their nightly homework and is on time each day makes a huge impact on their success and readiness to learn. We would be very thankful for any donations of dry erase markers, pencils, tissues, Clorox wipes and snacks for the classroom.

Grand Canyon News: With the trip just around the corner (April 26-29, to be exact), we are in full swing in making plans and reservations to make sure your child has a fantastic and memorable time at the 22

nd Annual 4

th Grade

Grand Canyon Trip!! Thank you to our amazing PTO for helping us out once again by setting up a Chipotle Fundraising Night on March 2

nd from 5-8 pm and thank you to families and staff who are able to attend. In addition to student fees, and other

fundraising we do throughout the year, a percentage of the money earned from these Chipotle nights help us fund our Grand Canyon trip. The $85 individual student fee can be a large sum to pay all at once, so we strongly advise making monthly payments for the trip. These payments can be made anytime at our front office. We will also be sending home THE Grand Canyon permission slips later this month. Thank you for your continued support!

Mr. McFrederick Mrs. Jernigan Ms. Trott

March is a big month, AzMERIT testing is just around the corner. Please make sure your children are completing all homework assignments and explaining their thinking to you. Your involvement is such a big help. Parent teacher conferences are coming as well, please check your child’s backpack for the green confirmation paper. We look forward to meeting with you. We are also going to the Junior High on the 16th to see a spectacular

play, please watch for permission slips. Lastly, we appreciate you for all you do, thank you!

Sixth Grade News

Wow, sixth grade is really moving along through the year and it's hard to believe it's March already! We have a full schedule ahead of us this month with presenta-tions from Arizona Project Wet, Tucson Water, and Tucson Electric Power. We also have AzMERIT testing at the end of the month. We would like to thank our chaperones that attended and volunteered their time at our Saguaro National Park field trips. Much fun was had by all and the park rangers were very compli-

mentary of our sixth grade students. Our Bulldog Fun Run will also be taking place mid month, so keep a watch out for information coming on that soon. Attendance is extremely important as we move toward the end of the year and we encourage our sixth graders to be here everyday, well rested, and full from a healthy breakfast. Thank you for all you do to support your students!

Happy March parents! We're in the home stretch now, the last 3 months of school are under way. Lets finish strong! As I've said in the meetings (first Wednesday of the month, 2:30, on campus) this has been our most successful year in the 5 years I've been working with the PTO. We are gearing up--literally-- for our last big fundraiser of the year. The Walter Douglas Bulldog Fun Run will be on Friday, 3/17! This is our signature obstacle course fundraiser. Students take laps through our kid-friendly course, and are sponsored for donations per-lap. Flat rate donations are also welcome. Its a school wide, all day event. We'll provide water and shade for the kids, but they'll need sunscreen

and active wear clothes and shoes. One of the obstacles will be a water feature, so expect your kids to maybe get a little wet. If you can volunteer, we REALLY need help with this one! For volunteers, we'll provide water, shade, snacks and lunches. Maybe even chairs! (we'll definitely have chairs.) Email, call or text me ASAP so we can get set up. The Fun Run is a great event for the kids and staff. It's a wonderful time to spend with your student, if you can get the day to do it. I'm very proud to be part f it. I want you to be part of it too. Here is my contact information:

I'm really looking forward to talking with you. Let's make a great day happen for our kids!
