WALTER WARTHOG’S ACTIVITIES

Print pages 2 and 3. Page 2 has a picture of Walter Warthog’s stack of

26 watermelons! Page 3 has school pictures of all the students in Alpha

Betty’s class.

Cut out the pictures of the students and spread them out.

Starting with A at the top of the stack, match the picture of each student

with the correct letter of the alphabet on the watermelons. Say the name

of the animal aloud as you match it with the correct letter.

Hint! If you’re not sure about the names of the animals, look at the

pictures of Alpha Betty’s students in the front of any Animal Antics A to Z book!

EXTRA CHALLENGE: Once you’ve matched the animals to the letters,

sing the alphabet song slowly while pointing to each animal in turn!

WANDA WEASEL’S WATERSLIDE GAME

Print page 5 and 6. Page 5 has a picture of Wanda Weasel’s waterslide.

Page 6 has game markers and picture cards of words that begin with

the w sound and words that begin with the v sound.

Cut off the strip with the two game markers at the bottom of page 6.

Then cut apart the game markers for Walter Warthog and Victor Vicuna.

Now cut apart the cards on page 6. Turn them over, mix them up, and

stack them.

Now you’re ready to climb the steps to the waterslide!

Draw a card and say the word for the picture. If it begins with the

w sound, move Walter’s marker up one step on the ladder. If it begins

with the v sound, move Victor up a step.

Who reached the top of the waterslide first? Make that marker

swoosh down the waterslide and splash into the water!

Now shuffle the cards and play again!

Who made it to the top first this time?

This recipe makes 8 servings.

You will need:

4 cups watermelon cubes (remove rind and seeds)

6 cups cold water

juice of 1 large lime (1/4 cup)

1/4 cup granulated sugar

In small batches, puree watermelon cubes using a blender or food processor.

Pour the cold water, lime juice, and sugar into a large container. Add the puree and stir until everything is mixed thoroughly.

Refrigerate at least one hour, mix again, and serve.

Be sure to put this recipe in your Animal Antics recipe folder!NOTE TO PARENT/TEACHER: Make sure children are not allergic to any of the ingredients in this recipe.
