Term 2 Week 6 Friday, 7 June 2019
It has been a fabulous fortnight at Wattle Grove with lots of fun and learning! As the weather gets colder, I encourage everyone to ensure they take care of themselves! Caring for our Famers The SRC successfully organised a wonderful
fundraiser to support our farmers. On Tuesday 4 June,
the day the heavens finally opened, Wattle Grove was
full of check shirts, boots and straw hats as we
dressed up to raise money to support our farmers. We
are proud to announce we have raised $721 for Buy a
Bale. Thank you for your support!
Super Kids I enjoyed another great 3-6 Super Kids morning tea
this week. I love listening to the children discuss what
school achievements they are proud of. All of the
students were very polite and thankful for their
treats. I am looking forward to the K-2 morning tea
next week!

A Coffee and Chat
Last week Mrs Lazarevic hosted a parent discussion
session which provided the opportunity for new and
existing parents to come together in an informal way
to get to know each other, share stories and ask
questions. Due to popular demand we are hoping to
have more of these sessions throughout the year! This
is a great way to meet new people and enjoy a nice
cuppa! Thank you to Mrs Lazarevic for her
organisation of this event.

Teachers are being vigilant with ensuring that students know and use good hygiene practices to help minimize infections at school, especially when it comes to washing hand.
Student Reports Teachers are currently engaging in preparing and writing student reports. A lot of time and effort is given to this process to ensure our parents/carers are presented with valuable information about their child’s progress. Reports will go home in Week 10 (Wednesday). If you have any concerns please make an appointment to see your child’s teacher. If you require additional copies of your child’s report please contact the school via email.

School and Community Charter – Supporting Schools and Communities to Work Together (Repeated Item) NSW Public Schools work to create positive environments for students, staff and the entire school community that support student learning. We strive to ensure that every student is known, valued and cared for. The best education happens when students, parents and schools work together.
The NSW Department of Education has introduced a School Community Charter for all members of NSW Public School communities. It has been
developed in consultation with a wide range of stakeholders. The School Community Charter outlines the responsibilities of parents, carers, educators and school staff in NSW public schools to ensure our learning environments are collaborative, supportive and cohesive.
A copy of the charter follows this edition of the
newsletter.

I had a great time in Stage Two Mathematics groups with Mrs Fuller this week. The students were working hard on equivalent fractions. They drew a range of fractions and represented them using the correct format. The students then identified and ordered equivalent fractions. The students were great at
using a fraction wall to help them answer a range of questions. All students worked beautifully!

Zone Cross Country Results Congratulations to all students who participated in
the Zone Cross Country on 28 May. With many
runners at Paul Kelly Cup and one at state soccer,
Wattle Grove students did amazingly well to come 2nd
overall and 3rd on handicap, against 12 other schools.
Everyone looked impressive in the new bright athletic
singlets - we literally stood out in every race.
Students who came in the top 8 will participate at
region. Antonio who was competing at State soccer
has also received an invitation to attend regional.
Congratulations to all students, you all represented
the school with distinction and we are very proud of
you. (photos on back pages)

Boy & Girls Softball Regional Championships On Monday 27 May, students from our school represented Liverpool PSSA at the Sydney South West Regional Softball Championships in Camden. The students showed great skill and wonderful sportsmanship in really cold and extremely windy conditions. The boys had some very close games, whilst the girls tied in three of their games. We are very proud of our students Cassie and Jarryd from Year 6; and Mariam, Byron, Draven, Max and Owen from Year 5. Jessie from Year 6 was unfortunately injured and was unable to play on the day. It was a great but cold day for softball!
The Paul Kelly Cup is the largest AFL competition for
primary school children in NSW. Last Tuesday, Wattle
Grove competed in the Regional Finals after both the
girls and the boys won their respective zone
competitions. Due to the Zone Cross Country being
scheduled for the same day, we were lucky to have a
number of students step up to join the teams.
The boys’ team played well but unfortunately did not
advance to the semi-finals. However, the girls’ team,
despite missing several experienced players, won all
preliminary games, semi-finals and then dominated
the grand final, winning convincingly.
The girls’ team will now be competing in the State
Finals at Spotless Stadium, Homebush on 5 August.
Congratulations girls – we are so proud of you!

Book Covering Morning Tea
I would like to thank all the parents who helped cover books in the library yesterday. The teachers, students and myself are so appreciative of the time that was given up to cover books so they can placed out in the library for the students to borrow. We had so many parents volunteering showing our generous community spirit!

Deployments and Absence Being a Defence partner/spouse inevitably will involve deployments and or/long absences from home by your ADF member. Our Defence Family Community is always good for advice. What would be the one tip you would give someone who is about to experience this for the first time? Something that might make their lives a little easier? Something that helped you? For more information on Deployments, see the handbook from Defence. http://www.defence.gov.au/DCO/_Master/documents/Publications/Deployment-Support-Booklet.pdf If you have an upcoming absence please email [email protected] alternatively I can be reached via the administration office. A friendly reminder that this information is particularly important at times when children are sick or injured, having this information allows office staff to contact the appropriate parent/carer. SkoolBag App The SkoolBag app is a great way to communicate information to families, there is an option to select ‘DEFENCE’. To keep up to date with the latest Defence specific information, please make sure you have this option enabled.

This year’s survey will focus on services and support available for Defence families. If you are the family of a permanent ADF member or a permanent ADF member looking after dependants on your own, tell Defence about your experiences in the ADF Families Survey. The survey should only take about 20 minutes to complete and is online at: · Defence Community Organisation www.defence.gov.au/dco · Defence Families of Australia www.dfa.org.au The ADF Families Survey opens on 3 June and will close on 21 June 2019. The results are expected to be available in late-2019.
