XVI ficou profundamente danificada pelo terramoto de 1755, tendo posteriormente sido reconstruída, sem que fosse mantida a traça original. No seu interior destaca-se um conjunto de imagens do séc. XVII e séc. XVIII e uma bela representação de dupla face do séc. XV representando a Nossa Senhora e o Senhor Crucificado. Não deixe de apreciar também a magnifica colecção de ex-votos de marinheiros e pescadores. Forte de S. João do Arade | Fort of S. João do Arade Aproveite, para mais uma vez, saciar os olhos com os encantos da zona costeira e contemple o Forte de S. João do Arade. Construído no séc. XVII, constituía a par da Fortaleza de Santa Catarina a principal defesa do estuário do Rio Arade. Encontra-se bem destacados os diferentes planos e as duas ordens de canhoeira, uma para fogo alto outra para fogo rasante. As variadas guaritas, acentuam-lhe o carácter de dispositivo militar. Preterido como bastião de defesa acabou por sofrer obras de adaptação a residência, por iniciativa do poeta Coelho Carvalho. Em 1974, foi classificado como Imóvel de Interesse Público. Torre de Vigia da Lapa | Lapa Watch Tower Construída possivelmente no séc. XVII, em alvenaria. Deste local avista-se uma boa extensão de oceano e a embocadura do Rio Arade, donde era necessário afastar os que pretendiam entrar pela barra para roubar e saquear. Hoje não é necessária para vigilância, mas podemos contemplar o magnífico cenário natural. Main Church of Ferragudo This simple 16th century building was badly damaged by the earthquake of 1755, later being reconstructed, if not to the original design. Inside, of particular note are a number of pictures from the 17th to 18th centuries and a good two-sided representation of Our Lady and the Crucified Lord, from the 15th century. Don’t forget to appreciate the magnificent collection of offerings made by seafarers and fishermen. Take advantage here of one more opportunity to enjoy the visual delights of this coastline and also visit the Fort of S. João do Arade. Built in the 17th century, it constituted, together with the Fort of Santa Catarina, the principal defence post for the Arade Estuary. The ground plans and two rows of canon artillery – one for high fire and the other for low - are easily distinguishable. The various sentry boxes underline the military character of this site. Once its defensive use had passed, it was adapted for residential purposes, under the auspices of the poet Coelho Carvalho. In 1974 it was classified as a Monument of Public Interest. Watch Tower of Lapa Built in stone, possibly in the 17th century. From this spot a view opens up of a great expanse of ocean and the mouth of the Arade River, from where it was necessary to chase off those who intended entering past the sand bar to rob and loot. Today this vigilance is no longer needed, but instead one can enjoy the splendid natural scene. Of all these wonderful spaces, which inhabits the silence, enjoy the fantastic views across the river of Portimão, with the Monchique hills in the background and the sea stretching into the distance. We suggeste the church view spot, Molhe Beach or Ponta do Altar. Graças ao seu relevo, Ferragudo possui diversos locais privilegiados para contemplar maravilhosos cenários. De todos estes magníficos espaços, que a calma habita, desfrute da fantástica vista de Portimão através do rio, com a serra de Monchique ao fundo e o mar. Sugerimos-lhe o Miradouro da Igreja, da Praia do Molhe ou da Ponta do Altar. NATUREZA | NATURE A orla costeira de Ferragudo é um lugar inesquecível que maravilhará os visitantes mais exigentes. Foi num trabalho de milhões de anos que a erosão esculpiu, na rocha calcária, recantos mágicos como a Praia do Pintadinho, a Praia dos Caneiros ou a Praia do Mato. A mesma complexa geomorfologia que originou o rendilhado das arribas, deu também origem a curiosas estruturas denominadas algares - poços verticais que ligam a superfície a uma intricada rede de galerias subterrâneas, que desembocam no mar. Os algares (situados nas proximidades da Ponta do Altar) constituem abrigo para uma diversidade de seres vivos, onde se destacam os raros morcegos – de ferradura-mourisco. Por entre a vegetação mediterrânica que cobre a crista das arribas, onde o tomilho, o alecrim, o funcho e outras aromáticas perfumam a atmosfera, encontramos a aroeira, o Carrasco, a palmeira anã, entre um elenco florístico diversificado, que vale a pena conhecer. Daqui avistamos o Leixão da Gaivota, pequeno ilhéu rochoso, de importância ornitológica (classificado Zona de Protecção Especial ) que acolhe colónias de aves marinhas para dormitório e reprodução. Desfilam ao longo do ano aves que não deixarão os ornitólogos indiferentes. Uns binóculos e um guia de aves revelará as aves de rapina como o falcão peregrino e o francelho. Outros passariformes, poderão aparecer nas objectivas como, a gralha- preta, ou o pisco-de-peito-ruivo. No Verão, várias espécies de Andorinhões enchem o horizonte com gritos e acrobacias. Atreva-se , por entre os trilhos que serpenteiam a vegetação, no cima das arribas, e desvende o tesouro natural que a orla costeira de Ferragudo tem para lhe oferecer. Here we can see the Seagull Leixão, rocky islet, of importance to birds (classified Special Protection Area) which hosts colonies of seabirds for breeding and dormitory. Parade throughout the year birds will not leave indifferent ornithologists. Binoculars and a bird guide reveal the birds of prey such as peregrine falcon and the kestrel. Other Passariformes may appear in the objective as the crow- black, or robin.
