Client

Printbox is a Denmark based online printing service. It’ s a valiant effort by a

Danish print service provider who has automated the traditional print pre-

press. Printbox operates an online print store that offers online designingand printing services for personal, promotional, commercial, and information

products. Through the online medium, Printbox has successfully streamlined

and optimized its resource utilization and is passing down the cost benefit to

the end customers by way of lower product prices.

Requirements

When Printbox decided to migrate their print processes to a web browser,

their fundamental business objective was to optimize resource utilization and

better manage their business. They wanted a solution that would make their

print service hassle-free to manage and easy to access and use for their end

customers. But this was really a very broad vision for our development

team. So we decided to break down this vision into smaller parts. We listed

CLIENT’S FEEDBACK

“  We at Printbox.dk were looking to extend the capacity of our in-

house Canon Image Press printer without compromising on the quality

of our graphic solutions. So we decided to join forces with

OnPrintShop’ s web to print solution. We expect the solution to open up

new markets and revenue channels for Printbox. Despite being from

two different continents, the OnPrintShop team has honored our

expectations from the solution through effortless communication and

workflow.

out the functions that the solution had to enable to make their vision

a reality.

Since Printbox’ s business was going to depend on this solution, they

wanted to promote all their products and services here.

Printbox wanted the flexibility to add new products to this solution in

future.

They wanted the solution to allow their customers to design their own

products online.

They were looking to put up some ready to use designs to assist

customers in their designing process.

Printbox was looking to sell designs online through some order

collection system.

Printbox wanted the online customers to mandatorily approve the

design before they could place their order.

They wanted to allow their customers to pay online for the designs

bought.

They envisioned an order management system that made it easy for

them to track orders.

They wanted the ability to manage content published on their

storefront.

Radix Approach

Given our web to print storefront deployments in Europe, we were confident

with Printbox’ s target market segment – Denmark. But this familiarity did

not mean that we did away with the analysis part. We studied Printbox ’ s

business objective and mapped it across the solution’ s features.

Having studied the customer mindset for online printing in Denmark

we defined certain functionalities that could make their online print service

more effective. We further divided the development process into phases.

Each phase was handled independently by the team making it easy to

manage and monitor. Our systematic approach is reflected in the Printbox

solution.

The Solution

We have always presented OnPrintShop as a very versatile solution. It ’ s not

just the printers who gain from it but also the end customers through

reduced product prices. It also helps you carve out a niche for yourself in a

highly competitive market. Printbox is one such printer who has benefited

from adopting OnPrintShop web to print solution.

Their solution is an interesting collection of following features:

We have developed Printbox’s system to have two parts – frontend for

customers and the backend for the system admin.

Printbox uses the frontend to promote its print products and services

through an impressive gallery.

The system admin from the backend can use the system’s product

module to add unlimited number of print products to the gallery.

The backend also has a dynamic template management module which

allows the system admin to upload ready to use design templates forall the displayed products. Their customers can select a template,

personalize it, and place order.

Printbox is also using their print store ’ s frontend to disclose product

prices as part of their transparent pricing policy.

We have integrated an Online Designer Studio in Printbox’s

storefront which their customers can use to edit and personalize

ready design templates.

In addition to using the ready templates, Printbox allows customers to

upload ready artwork and place print order.

  Printbox’s online designer studio generates a print-ready 300DPI PDF

file which is both CMYK and RGB compatible.

The storefront is supported by an advanced shopping cart that has

integrated payment and shipping gateways.

Printbox further allows its customers to define product details like

paper type, shape, size, etc.

Printbox’ s system issues order confirmation to the customers with

product details, shipping details, billing details, payment details, and

special comments if any.

Their online print store has a customer portal which stores customer

details along with their order history and image gallery.

The system admin can assign a unique order ID to every single order

placed in the system and track it.

The system admin can publish and manage content on the storefront’s

frontend including banner hosting.

Star Features

OnPrintShop’s real value addition lies in its customization possibilities.

Printbox had already envisioned a few customizations to the storefront to

help them capture a greater market share. We gladly followed suit and

customized their online print store to match their requirements.

Language Support

Printbox was very clear that Denmark was going to be their target market.

So we custom developed their frontend to support Danish language in

addition to English. They can therefore display content, news releases,

images, email notifications, order summaries, etc in Danish also. Their

Page 10: Web to Print Solution - Printbox Case Study

admin panel in the backend supports English but again we have

custom developed their chat support in Danish.

Custom Design Integration

For Printbox, it was very crucial that they have a crisp looking frontend along

with a simple navigation pattern of their online print store for customer

ease. So they insisted on designing their print store’s layout and navigation

style at their own end. We respected their wish and integrated their design

layout and navigation pattern with our modular system.

Studio Customization

Printbox wanted their online design studio’s text functionality to display

certain additional behaviors. So we custom developed the bold and italic text

features in their design studio along with text resizing option. We have also

custom developed a color picker tool for their studio which their customers

can use to pick the color from let’ s say logo and fill it in their text as an

extension of their branding. We have further posted text messages in

properties window and made it user friendly.

Matching Products Facility

This was again a feature custom developed for Printbox. What Printbox’s

print store does is when a customer adds a product into the cart he/she is

offered other related products having matching designs. So, when a

customer adds a business card to his cart he is offered other related

products like letterheads and envelopes with the same design. This allows

Printbox to cross-sell.

Guest Login Facility

Printbox was aware that their target market held customers with great

potential but apprehensive about a registered login process. So we custom

developed a guest login facility for them. This means their customers can

login as guests into the system with minimum information like email ID,

phone number, shipping and billing address and order designs. Such guest

customers will receive a reference link to the design in their email.

Mandatory Preview & Approval

Printbox was very clear that they did not want their customers to proceed

with order placement without approving the design. So we custom designed

their workflow wherein their customers get a mandatory preview of their

designs. This preview is a low-resolution watermarked PDF file. Here the

customers have to explicitly approve the design before they can move onto

the shopping cart for order placement.

Local Payment Gateway Integration

Printbox wanted us to integrate a Danish payment gateway into their print

store for easy management of online payments. So we have integrated

Quick Pay – a popular Danish gateway – into their storefront. Along with this

we have also integrated bank transfer facility in their online store.

Customized Tracking & Shipping

We have customized the tracking process and shipping for Printbox. Once

the order is placed in the system it generates a special number. When the

system admin downloads the print-ready file, he enters the generated

tracking number in the order section. The system then emails this number to

the customer who can use it to track the status of the order through various

stages. Instead of the usual shipping gateways, we have integrated the

Danish postal service Post Denmark into their print store. The

weight parameters are defined by the system admin from the

backend itself.

Template Display

Printbox wanted to have an impressive and dynamic display of design

templates. So again here we have custom developed a feature that allows

the system admin to upload SFW files as design templates. Their customers

can have a dynamic view of these SFW files as templates.

Social Network Sharing

We have integrated social network platforms into Printbox’s online print

store to allow their customers to share their product designs over such

popular platforms. Here again Add This was a custom integration we did for

Printbox.

Predefined Products Module

We have custom developed a predefined products module for Printbox

wherein their system admin can create predefined products in the backend,

set up their prices and sizes, and sell them along with customizable print

products. From the frontend their customers can choose the product size

and quantity and place order without custom designing.

The Wrap Up

This was a very special project for Radix. While we had deployed quite a few

online print stores in European region, they cannot match the level of

customization that went into Printbox. We not only had to modify the

existing workflow but had to develop brand new modules altogether for

Printbox. Although it might seem taxing to develop new modules and getting

them to fit in an already modular solution, it was worth the effort. Along the

way, our development team learned a few tricks of how to effortlessly

manage a modular solution. We are proud of our association with Printbox

and look forward to serving them better in the future.
