Welcome to Our Parish
Registering in a parish is a declaration of your desire to be a part of a Catholic community and a commitment to the life of the parish family. Being a registered parishion-er makes things easier when it is time for infant baptism, school registration, weddings, funerals, affidavits and when asked to be a baptismal or confirmation sponsor. We can only do this if you are a registered, active and contributing member in the parish. Please call, visit the office or go online to our website to register.

Third Sunday of Easter Page Three
Tweet From Pope Francis Do you work for a living? Be holy by laboring with integrity and skill in the service of your brothers and sisters. 4/9
G reetings my friends, On this third Sunday of Easter, what do we learn? First off, all the scriptures are focused on Jesus Christ, His mission here on earth, and His disciples’ mission to the entire world. The first reading is a confirmation from Peter, in the Acts of Apostles, that everything that was said in the Old Testament by God and the prophets was about Jesus and His coming into the world with His message of forgiveness and love for all. Peter is challenging the people to realize that they were wrong in condemning the Holy One of Israel and putting Him to death. On the same note, he is pleading with them to consider repenting their sins and accepting forgiveness from a God who never abandons His loved ones. This is the truth about Jesus Christ, of whom the prophets spoke in the Old Testament era, that He would suffer for our sins, that God would raise Him from the dead, and that He would save us all. We now can confirm that this is what happened, this is the faith we profess as followers of Jesus Christ. Jesus was condemned by the same group of people that Peter is now offering forgiveness for their sins. How often we are like them; we judge others, we condemn, we reject without ever seeking the truth, we hold grudges and doubts. Our awesome God is still willing to forgive us, if we have the courage to repent of our sins, and to turn back to Him who gives us life and hope in our often hopeless situations. Like the Psalm today, all of us should sing out, ''Lord let your face shine on us,'' (Psalm 4) because it is only through our Lord that we can attain true happiness in our lives, true hope, and love. Our God is offering us a treasure free of charge, all we have to do is accept it and live it in our lives. St. John, in the second reading, states that it’s not good enough just to say, “I know Jesus.''
“Those who say, ‘I know Him,’ but do not keep His commandments are liars, and the truth is not in them. But whoever keeps His word, the love of God is truly perfected in him.'' (1 John 2:5) The Gospel follows the same theme. Jesus is breaking open the Word of God and telling His disciples that everything that was written in the past, all down through the generations of prophets, spoke about His coming into the world. It is now confirmed by His presence among them as the Risen Lord, with wounds and all.
Furthermore, Jesus explains the scriptures to His disciples, preparing them for their mission ahead, and in turn our mission to one another as followers of Jesus Christ. This is the faith we profess, repentance and forgiveness of our sins, the very faith which Jesus’ disciples were sent out to preach throughout the world. So, keep His commandments, embrace and love His word, and live it in your lives, with compassion, peace and truth for all!
T hanks to all who organized the Divine Mercy devotion last Sunday. The picture below is from the service, check the website for more pictures.
Welcome to any visitors here this weekend, and to those of other faith traditions, God bless you all!
Please continue to pray for the sick of the parish and all those who need healing.
Love, Fr. Gerard
Exciting news regarding our “North Parking Lot”
We listened and are taking action! Your responses to the recent Master Plan needs assessment survey indicated the desire to have the North Lot usable and available for
parking. Within one to two weeks, the North Lot will be repaved and striped for parking. We will be using parish funds to pay for this project.
We are hoping to have this project complete before we celebrate First Eucharist on May 6th. The availability of this parking lot may also help alleviate some traffic issues on Orange Grove.
Thank you to the our 218 parishioners and school fami-lies that completed the parish survey as well as those that participated in the various focus groups. We greatly appreciate your participation and input. It is important to develop a Master Plan that is achievable. We will contin-ue to keep you updated on our progress.

SOCIETY OF ST. VINCENT DE PAUL BUNDLE SUNDAY
On Sunday, April 29, our parish is having a Bundle Sunday for the Society of St. Vin-cent de Paul. Please bring your usable
clothing and usable household items to their truck here at our church. Help them in their endless efforts to assist the needy. They are in desperate need of furniture and large appliances. Call them for pick up of heavy items at (323) 224-6280 or (800) 97-HELP-1.
"Jesus: A Pilgrimage" We are starting something new and a little lighter this spring. We will read Fr. James Martin's book, "Jesus: A Pil-grimage” by Fr. Martin, a Jesuit and acclaimed author, guides us through his tour of the Holy
Land as we reflect on the Gospel.
Our times will remain the same:
Wednesday mornings 10-11:30 am Church Chapel Wednesday evenings 7-8:30 pm Community Center Upstairs Formation Room 1
The dates are: April 11-25 and May 2-9.
There is no charge for the class. If you would like to at-tend, please purchase the book. It is widely available at local bookstores. We will not sell the book in class.
Maintenance & Repairs Report – Month of March 2018 Those green envelopes…
The green envelopes found in your monthly envelope packet and in our pews are restricted for use towards our Church Maintenance & Repairs. Amounts collected from the “green envelopes” remain 100% in our parish and are not subject to an Archdiocese assessment fee. These funds go directly toward paying for our church facility up-keep, maintenance and improvements and the utilities bills.
We had 8 more families participating this month versus February 2018.
Here is a look at the month of March 2018 “green enve-lope” collections versus our actual maintenance & repairs expenditures:
Funds collected from green envelopes $15,098 Repairs, routine maintenance, utility expenses $11,732 Reserve to offset previous and future expenses $3,366 Families Participating (green envelopes or indicated on check) 293
You may contribute anytime during the month by either using the green envelope found in your packet or in the pew or simply indicate on the memo line of your check, “Maintenance & Repairs”.
Thank you so very much for your continuing generosity!
It’s Mystagogia Time Again
Mystagogy is the final period of the Christian initiation process. The term, which is Greek, means “guiding into mystery”. This mystery is not a puz-zle, problem, gap in scientific re-search or even a religious teaching that is inaccessible to reason. Ra-ther, the period of mystagogy, running from Easter to Pentecost, is a time for the newly initiated to reflect on and explore the mystery into which they have been im-mersed through the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist): the unfathomable love of God in Christ. This mystery is so great and rich that it remains ever fresh and new. No matter how often or how deeply we explore it, its fullness is never exhausted. God’s love abides, and the more we abide in it the more we know that its greatness surpasses all else.
For this reason, mystagogy is for all Christians all year round, but especially during the fifty days between Easter and Pentecost. It is a time to support the newly initiated in savoring their Easter experience, but also to deepen our grasp of the paschal mystery. Side by side with the newly initiated, we have the opportunity to listen afresh to the Gospel message during this season and allow our lives to be touched anew. The witness of their presence in our midst invites us to “see with new eyes” what the Sacra-ments of Easter are all about.
YAM at the Movies
ABVM Young Adult Minis-try watched the new film, Paul, Apostle of Christ, for one of their recent meetings! Set near the end of St. Paul's life, we walked with him, St. Luke the Evange-list, and the early Church in Rome amidst persecution. The film is dedicated to all people who have been persecuted for their faith, let us keep this inten-tion in our prayers always! In all,
we enjoyed it and recommend watching it. From the im-mersion, to the setting, to the many Pauline verses quot-ed throughout, to strong sympathetic characters, there were many elements that you can appreciate.
YAM meets every Wednesday, 7pm, in the Community Center. Please contact Manny at [email protected] for more information

Faith Formation News Society of St. Vincent de Paul Assumption Conference
St. Vincent de Paul sought to focus on the direct service of the poor. However, he
knew that to do so, he would need to gather, motivate and negotiate with di-verse groups of peo-ple. St Vincent used Jesus’ example of setting new courses and gathering His Apostles to help Him. St. Vincent used people from a variety of social classes and career fields as well as clergy and clois-tered nuns. Today we try to follow in St.
Vincent’s footsteps.
We have worked with one of our Friends, Rita, to help identify areas where we might find the homeless and of-fer them assistance. The Girl Scouts have helped us by building mercy bags filled with toiletries. Various busi-ness owners have helped by giving us a break on sup-plies. We’re also working with Friends in Deed to help supply their pantry. We were able to give them hundreds of pounds of food at Christmas and we refer our Friends-in-Need to their Food Pantry and Women’s Room. At Christmas, we supplied gifts or books to Pasadena Schools and gave gifts and food to families of another local parish.
We work closely with the other Conferences in the area to discuss needs and ideas for how to meet those needs. We recently shared our practice of assisting the home-less during bad weather with our Bad Weather Rescue Kit. The kit consists of appropriate outer wear like a pon-cho or warm jacket, sleeping bag, mat, mercy and food bag and a thick tarp for shelter. The LA Council has de-cided to use $10,000-to-$20,000 in grant money they received to purchase a store of these supplies so other Conferences can extend this practice.
We thank you for continuing to support the poor and mar-ginalized. We can only give to them from the resources you provide for us. We are deeply grateful. In the picture above is our President Robert Wyatt, Vice President, Ri-ta, our guide to helping the homeless, and Joan Feser.
If you know someone who needs assistance, please call our hotline: (626)657-0836. If you would like to make a monetary donation to be used in helping those in need, please use the Assumption-SSVdP tan envelope provid-ed in the pew. Remember, 100% of your donation serves the needy and the poor.

DID YOU KNOW? Pray for the healing of abuse victims Each of us, as members of our Catholic communi-ty, can contribute to the healing of those harmed by abuse by remembering survivors in our prayers:
Mindful that Jesus’ resurrection transforms all who be-lieve, we as church embrace our shared responsibility to protect our children and youth, and to ensure that they grow up knowing they are safe and loved. In solidarity with those victims who have endured the pain of abuse, we re-dedicate ourselves to their healing by increasing our own awareness and understanding, by contributing to the safe environment and practices of our church, and by extending our efforts out into the world.
For specific information on how you can make the world a safer place for children and youth please visit: www.archla.org/protecting.
