Love is patient; love is kind. Love is not jealous; is not

proud; is not conceited; does not act foolishly; is not

selfish; is not easily provoked to anger; keeps no record

of wrongs; takes no pleasure in unrighteousness, but

rejoices in the truth; love bears all things, believes all

things, hopes all things, and endures all things. ~ I Corinthians 13:4-7

Grace and Peace to all

WOMEN

OF OUR PARISH.

Mary, on this day when we honor all mothers, we turn to you. We thank the Lord whom you serve for the great gift of motherhood. Never has it been known that anyone who sought your intercession was left unaided by

grace. Dear Mother, thank you for your "Yes" to the invitation of the angel which brought heaven to earth and changed human history. You opened yourself to God's word and the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us. Dear Mother, intercede for all of our mothers. Ask your Divine Son to give them the grace of surrendered love so that they could join with you in giving their own "Fiat." May they find daily strength to say yes to the call to the sacrificial love- the very heart of the vocation of motherhood. May their love and witness be a source of

great inspiration for all of us called to follow your Son. On this Mother’s day, Mother of the Word Incarnate, pray for us who have recourse to

you... In the Name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. READINGS FOR THE WEEK

Dios, deseaba conocer a Dios. —San Ambrosio

Throughout Easter Time, the Church rejoices with Jesus, risen from the dead. Our readings on this Fourth Sunday of Easter celebrate our instinct to come together in joy, worshiping in church. While private prayer nourishes our individual relationship with the Lord, community prayer is a foretaste of paradise. The book of Revelation depicts a “great multitude” worshiping God “day and night in his temple.” Our churches on Easter Sunday often reflect this happy multitude, filling the pews to bursting. Four Sundays into the festive season, we are encouraged to keep praising God together. In the Acts of the Apostles, Paul and Barnabas demonstrate their instinct to worship with their faith community each Sabbath, dutifully taking their seats in the synagogue. In the Gospel, Jesus calls us his sheep and reminds us why coming together as a flock is so important: uniting in community, we imitate the unity of God. SHEPHERDS LIKE JESUS Each year this Fourth Sunday of Easter celebrates Jesus the Good Shepherd. Today’s Gospel seems especially timely, for as Christians worldwide suffer persecution like Paul and Barnabas, Jesus promises his sheep enduring, invincible safety: “They shall never perish. No one can take them out of my hand.” But we who are free to live our faith peacefully sometimes take our membership in Jesus’ flock for granted, wandering astray to seek our own pleasure and prosperity. The simple cross that Pope Francis always wears seems to show us how Jesus responds to that. Francis’s cross features an image of Jesus, who has sought and found a lost sheep, then joyfully set it on his shoulders to carry it gently home. May Good Shepherd Sunday inspire us, so often lost and found ourselves, to assist Jesus in seeking, finding, and gently carrying home our fellow precious lambs. THE VOICE Jesus says, “My sheep hear my voice; I know them, and they follow me.” Earlier in this Good Shepherd discourse, John the Evangelist explains that Jesus is using “figures of speech.” We cannot take Jesus’ words literally, since we are people, not sheep. We understand the Lord figuratively, then, discovering all the helpful ways that we are similar to sheep. A quick Internet search reveals a number of videos showing how sheep ignore every human voice except that of their shepherd. It is remarkable to see how single-minded sheep are, totally absorbed in grazing, disregarding everything around them. Even when impersonators imitate the shepherd and call the sheep in the same way the shepherd does, the sheep do not bother to look up. The instant the real shepherd calls out, however, the sheep snap to attention, call back in their own way, and come running. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

“No perecerán.

The People of Life It is wondrous enough that someone rose from the dead by

his own power. But the Lord Jesus, in rising from the dead, does not just conquer his death; he conquers ours. He overturns the entire kingdom of death. The entire ministry of the Church is focused on bringing us – and all humanity – the eternal life that

flows from Christ and his Resurrection. This is the sense in which he is the Good Shepherd. Not only does he keep us from danger in this life; he shepherds us through death itself to the life that knows no end.
