Quarterly Financial Report: The Quarterly Financial Report is included on the next page of the bulletin. It seems as though we are on track for our budget and our expenses have gone down in several categories. One of the members of the Finance Council made these three ob-servations regarding this quarter’s financial report: 1) the lower offertory is due primarily to a timing issue – Easter falling in April this year and in March last year. 2) the increase in the rectory expense is due to the replacement of the roof and garage doors. A one time expense. 3) the increase in religious education expenses is due to Confirmation being held this year. The first time in three years. You may notice an increase in “plant maintenance and supplies” in the year to date col-umn. This was because of a need to replace the HVAC in the parish office (at the beginning of the fiscal year). The Financial picture for the parish continues to look good. Thank you for your stewardship! Fr. Mike

Do you want to become a Foster Parent? Being a foster parent can be a very rewarding venture. The reward comes with the satisfaction that you feel from knowing that you’ve offered compassion, support and kindness to children in your home. As a foster parent you can provide children with experiences in family living which are es-sential to their constructive growth and development when their own parents are unable to provide this. As a foster parent you can be a mentor to a teenager, help a younger child develop healthy positive behaviors or help a child of any age to trust again. Our Lady Queen of Peace Stewardship Prayer

Generous and loving God, you gather us together as one family in our Catholic faith. Help us to proclaim your Kingdom by our words and actions. Guided by the Holy Spirit and with the help of Blessed Mary, may we share our time, talents, and treasures and abundantly return these, our gifts, to You. Amen

Special Collection: The Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception Mother’s Day, May 14, 2017 Affectionately referred to as America’s Catholic Church, the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Con-ception in Washington, DC, has been a century in the mak-ing since the laying of its foundation stone in 1920. Designated by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops as a National Sanctuary of Prayer and Pilgrimage, the Basilica is our nation’s preeminent Marian Shrine, dedi-cated to the Patroness of the United States, the Blessed Virgin Mary under her title of the Immaculate Conception. Mary’s Shrine, as it is often called, is the largest Roman Catholic Church in North America and is one of the ten largest churches in the world. Pope Francis, Pope Benedict XVI, Saint John Paul II, and Saint Mother Teresa are among the faithful who have visit-ed this magnificent basilica. Now as its one hundredth an-niversary approaches a nationwide effort is underway to complete this great “Hymn in Stone” as its founders envi-sioned with the mosaic ornamenta-tion of the Trinity Dome. The Trinity Dome The Trinity Dome is the central and largest dome of the Basilica. This “Crowning Jewel” will be adorned in mosaic and will depict the Most Ho-ly Trinity, the Blessed Virgin Mary as the Immaculate Conception, and a procession of saints who have an association with America and the Basilica. The Nicene Creed will en-circle the base of the dome, while the dome’s pendentives will feature the four evangelists: Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. The Trinity Dome will complete the work of the Great Upper Church according to its original iconographic scheme and bring to a close construction of the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception as it ap-proaches its centennial milestone in 2020. The National Collection The Bishops of the United States approved a special one-time second collection for the Trinity Dome. Your prayerful and financial support will not only adorn this “Crowning Jewel” and complete Mary’s Shrine, but will also leave a lasting legacy for generations to come in this living monument to our Catholic faith and heritage that is Ameri-ca’s Catholic Church. Pentecost: The Church’s Birthday by Rev. Lawrence Rice, CSP Each year the Church cele-brates 50 days of Easter, culminating at the feast of Pentecost. Pentecost marks the occasion of God’s sending the Holy Spirit upon Jesus’ disciples after his resurrection. Before Pentecost, the dis-ciples were unsure of what they were to do next, and spent most of their time in hiding. After Pente-cost, and the gift of the Holy Spirit, they understood their mission to spread the Good News of Jesus, and they had the courage to come out of hiding and speak openly about who Jesus was, and what he had accomplished by his dying and rising. Because Pentecost brought the disciples this clarity of mission, it is regarded as the founding feast of the Christian Church. Before Pentecost, the disciples of Jesus are tentative and disorganized. After Pentecost, they are a people with a mission, who perceive themselves as spiritually and sacramen-tally connected to the risen Christ. You can read the story of the Church’s first days in the Acts of the Apostles. Today, celebrations of Pentecost still center on the gifts of the Holy Spirit, and the power of those gifts to both draw people together, and to send them forth to spread the word. For those of you who are fond of making lists, those gifts of the Holy Spirit are: Wisdom, Knowledge, Understanding, Forti-tude, Good Counsel, Piety, and Fear of the Lord. Of course, one of the remarkable elements of the story of the first Pentecost was the miracle of un-derstanding, in which everyone in the diverse crowd in Jerusalem hears the disciples speaking in the listeners’ own language. This unique event is sometimes commemorated at masses for Pentecost Sunday by having people read sections of the story in a variety of different languages represented in the congregation. It’s a reminder that although we’ve heard the story before, we have inherited the mission of those first disciples. This article found at: http://www.foryourmarriage.org/pentecost-the-churchs-birthday/USCCB > Beliefs And Teachings "Knowledge of faith is possible only in the Holy Spirit: to be in touch with Christ, we must first have been touched by the Holy Spirit. He comes to meet us and kindle faith in us." (CCC, 683)

COME, CELEBRATE THE BIRTH OF OUR CHURCH! ~ PENTECOST SUNDAY, June 4th Just as the disciples on Pentecost were gifted by the Holy Spirit and sent out to share the Good News of Christ, we too are gifted with our own unique ways of spreading this news in our daily lives. As you consider what the gifts of the Holy Spirit mean to you, please offer the way you spread the Good News of Jesus to others. Perhaps you write music or poetry, sculpt, paint, hand-craft, woodwork, bake, or possess a special recipe shared within your culture. Would you share your gift with us on Pentecost Sunday? You can use any artistic medium to ex-press and witness to the parish, “How do the gifts of the Holy Spirit inspire me to spread the Good News of Jesus?” Drop off your item before Mass begins when you attend on Pentecost Sunday and we will display the various materials. If you have a performance piece, please see me before Mass so I know you have arrived. All are called to celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit in each one of us. Please join us after the Masses on Sunday (8 am, 11 am, and 1:30 pm Spanish Mass) for a brief fellowship celebrating the gift and birth of our Church! There will be a tent displayed in the front of the church by the Je-sus statue with birthday cake, beverages, drinks and snacks. See you then! Yours In Christ, Deacon Bob O’Connor And the Liturgy Committee

The world was a playground for Mickey, a naive Irish American kid bored with his life. His father served in World War II, his brother was a Marine in Vietnam; now it was his turn. His 365 days in Vietnam builds in torment until an attack on a bunker complex in Cambodia. Wounded, his friend captured, he becomes a tormented survivor knowing he is always just a heartbeat from death.

In this memoir, set as deeply in his mind as in the Southeast Asian jungle, a young American soldier embarks

on a journey to a war that, for him, will never be over.
