While Christians may be tempted to think of Christ the King as the king of all kings and the greatest of kings, such was not Jesus’ understanding of monarchy. His is a hidden kingship. He stands before Pilate, the repre-sentative of the Roman ruler, without any visible pow-er or authority. Yet when questioned about his king-ship, Jesus replies with the simple truth even though it seems wholly out of touch with his current predica-ment. We Christians profess that Jesus is our king. But even today his is a hidden kingdom– not of this world. His people are the poor and outcast. He sides with the downtrodden. And indeed his kingship is fully revealed in this gospel passage as he is about to be executed as a common troublemaker. We make Christ our king when we honor his subjects, the poor and defenseless. We acknowledge his sovereignty over us when we Adhere to his vision and values in the face of competing loyal-ties. We acclaim Christ king when we show respect for all life– unborn, mentally and physically challenged, the old and feeble, and even criminal. We make him our king when we model our lives after his and assume the role of servant rather than ruler. When we truly un-derstand and present to the world the way in which Je-sus is king, he ceases to compete with other rulers and powers. It is not a case o my king can beat your king. No, when we understand the monarchy of Jesus we come to see what a real king is, and we realize there is no other like him.

Si bien los cristianos pueden verse tentados a pensar que Cristo el Rey es el rey de todos los reyes y el más grande de los reyes, tal no fue el entendimiento de Jesús de la monarquía. La suya es una realeza oculta. Se encuentra ante Pilato, el representante del gobernante romano, sin ningún poder o autoridad visible. Sin embargo, cuando se le pregunta acerca de su reinado, Jesús responde con la simple verdad a pesar de que parece totalmente fuera de contacto con su situación actual. Every year the diocese gives each parish a Priest retirement Goal this year our goal was $3,466.00 due to our goal not being met we will be having a second collection for the re-mainder of the year to help reach our goal. An indulgence is the lessening, in the eyes of God, of the Temporal Punishment due to sins that have already been forgiven. An Explanation of Indulgences: There are two consequences for every sin we commit. One is Guilt and the other is Temporal Punishment. When we confess a sin and are sorry for it, God forgives the guilt of that sin. We are no longer guilty. However, we still owe a debt for that sin. We are still required to repair the damage that sin caused in the world. We are therefore required to make reparation for that sin. This debt that we owe is called Temporal Punishment. Indulgences are gifts or pardons that the Church gives to us in order to lessen the Temporal Pun-ishment that we owe in order to make up for the sins we have committed. The Church gives us a task to complete and some conditions to follow. If we follow the conditions and complete the task with rever-ence, we gain or obtain the Indulgence. This indulgence either wipes away all Temporal Punishment or part of it. Two Types of Indulgences: There are two types of Indulgences, Plenary and Partial. Plenary Indulgences free us from all of the Temporal Punishment or all of the debt that we owe for all of the sins we have ever committed up until that time. Partial Indulgences free us from some of the Temporal Punishment or some of the debt that we owe for the sins we have committed. A person can gain or obtain one Plenary Indulgence per day. A person can gain many Partial In-dulgences each day.

Una indulgencia es la disminución, a los ojos de Dios, del castigo temporal debido a los pecados que ya han sido perdonados. Una explicación de las indulgencias: Hay dos consecuencias por cada pecado que cometemos. Uno es la culpa y el otro es el castigo temporal. Cuando confesamos un pecado y lo lamentamos, Dios perdona la culpa de ese pecado. Ya no somos culpables. Sin embar-go, todavía tenemos una deuda por ese pecado. Todavía estamos obligados a reparar el daño que el pecado causó en el mundo. Por lo tanto, estamos obligados a reparar ese pecado. Esta deuda que tenemos se llama castigo tem-poral. Las indulgencias son regalos o perdones que la Iglesia nos da para disminuir el Castigo Temporal que debemos pa-ra compensar los pecados que hemos cometido. La Iglesia nos da una tarea para completar y algunas condiciones para seguir. Si seguimos las condiciones y completamos la tarea con reverencia, obtenemos u obtenemos la indul-gencia. Esta indulgencia borra todo el Castigo Temporal o parte de él. Dos tipos de indulgencias: Existen dos tipos de Indulgencias, Plenaria y Parcial. Las Indulgencias Plenarias nos liberan de todo el Castigo Temporal o de toda la deuda que tenemos por todos los pecados que hemos cometido hasta ese momento. Las In-dulgencias parciales nos liberan de algunos de los castigos temporal o parte de la deuda que tenemos por los pe-cados que hemos cometido. Una persona puede aumentar u obtener una indulgencia plenaria por día. Una persona puede ganar muchas indul-gencias parciales cada día.

The Solemnity Our Lord, Jesus Christ, King of the Universe

was instituted in 1925 by Pope Pius XI for the Roman Catho-

lic Church. In 1970 its Roman Catholic observance was

moved to the final Sunday of Ordinary Time. Pope Pius XI

established the feast of Christ the King in response to anti-

clericalism.
