Annual Report
360-696-4407 6600 Highland Drive, Vancouver, WA 98661 www.stjoevan.org
LOVE GOD LOVE OUR NEIGHBOR MAKE DISCIPLES
Dear Parishioners, I am happy to share with you our Annual Parish Report for the year concluded June 30, 2021. Our Pastoral Year runs from July 1 to June 30, so this report shows how the funds you entrusted to us were used in 2020-21 to further our mission to love God, love our neighbor, and make disciples. This has been a unique year as we managed parish life while keeping everyone as safe as possible from COVID-19. When the Pastoral Year began in July of 2020, we had recently come back to in-person Mass. Those Masses were limited in size and required registration. That month we initiated new members into our Church and confirmed young people. These were celebrations that we had to postpone from their usual time during the Easter Season. Parishioners slowly began returning to Mass and we were grateful for the ability to continue to livestream our liturgies, so that those who could not be with us in person could be with us virtually. This virtual experience was true of most of our ministries throughout the year. Later in the year, in school and faith formation ministries, we were able to implement a hybrid model of both in-person and virtual formation experiences. It was a year of transition on our staff as we said good-bye to longtime staff members and welcomed new staff to our ministry team. One of the most significant additions this year was the beginning of our Mass in Spanish at the end of January 2021. It is a testament to our talented pastoral ministers and your financial support that, in the midst of the COVID-19 crisis, we are able to actually add ministry in our parish.
These parishioners, whose first language is Spanish, have enriched the life of our parish and I look forward to all that is ahead for us as we continue to celebrate and enjoy the rich diversity of our parish community. In the spring, things continued to open up and I was so grateful that we were able to celebrate the Sacred Triduum in person together including the initiation of new members of our Church at the Easter Vigil. We were also able to celebrate two in-person school masses toward the end of the school year and gathered for graduation to celebrate our eighth graders. These were just some of the highlights of a most extraordinary year, including the people and events that are behind the numbers you see on the next page. As you review these figures you will see what a remarkable year it was. Your faithful stewardship enabled us to continue our mission and to maintain our beautiful campus. And the Payroll Protection Program assured us that we would have the resources to pay our staff in a year when our Sunday giving was understandably down. And even though our giving was down, it was not down as dramatically as other places have experienced. As we look forward to the unfolding of this new year, we thank God for the many blessings we have received during these past months, even in the midst of this crisis we are living through. My heart is filled with gratitude for God’s enduring love and care and for how that love and care is made manifest in your faithfulness. May God continue to bless you and your family in the days and months ahead. Fr. Gary Lazzeroni

P. Gary Lazzeroni

St Vincent de Paul Food Drive “Thanks for Giving” Campaign October 31 - Thanksgiving Day
St. Joseph Catholic School students have been busy decorating hundreds of empty grocery bags. Beginning October 31, these bags will be on display in the north and south hallways of the church building. Take a walk down the hallways and enjoy their delightful art exhibit, then take a bag home with you and help out St. Vincent de Paul. The need for food assistance is greater than ever and your support helps us to provide hundreds of meals to Vancouver area families during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. Each grocery bag is tagged with a list of suggested food items. Take the list along the next time you go shopping, place the items you selected into your decorated bag and return it to the St. Vincent de Paul bin in the church narthex. Volunteers will pick up your donations each week. Thank you in advance for your generosity and have a blessed Thanksgiving!
