BAR'S SERVING! [20 points]

Welcome to the RSS 2016 Pub Quiz! Over the course of the night, don't forget to make good use of the free drinks tokens on your table, kindly provided by ATASS Sports.

The questions for each round of the quiz will be handed out on double-sided printed sheets (just like this one). Please write your answers directly onto these sheets, and remember to add your team name at the top. Every so often, representatives of the YSS will come around to collect in the answers for marking, and hand out the next round of questions. You can chip away at the picture round throughout the night – we'll collect that one in towards the end.

OK, let’s get started!

This first round has a special twist: the three letters R S S appear consecutively (and in that order) within each answer. How many can you solve? Each question is worth two points.

1. In which 1997 debut novel were we first introduced to Four Privet Drive, Diagon Alley, and Platform 9¾? 2. In 1992, which group topped the UK singles chart for eight consecutive weeks with "Stay"?

Then, up to nine further points are available, as follows:

Gather together the first letters from the nineteen authors’ names (that is, take the "A" from "ARTHUR CONAN DOYLE", the "T" from "T H WHITE", the "O" from "OSCAR WILDE", and so on, for all of the nineteen authors).

The resulting nineteen letters can be rearranged to form the surnames of three other well-known authors featuring in the Big Read Top 200. In fact, these are the three authors who have the most titles overall within the Top 200, with a grand total of 38 books between them.

Write the full names of the three authors in the slots below. Three points will be awarded for each correct answer.
