IMPROVING RECREATIONAL AMENITIES
In the interest of the public’s health and safety, the open forest policy for Raheenleagh Forest has been temporarily suspended for the duration of the project. Once the wind farm is completed access to the forest will be reinstated and the existing tracks will be upgraded to a higher standard, improving both the amenity and recreation aspects of the forest walks into the future. For information, and updates in relation to accessing Raheenleagh Forest please visit the Raheenleagh Wind Farm website www.raheenleaghwindfarm.ie
In the meantime alternative walking routes are available on nearby Coillte forests: Ballyfad and Carrig. Please see our website www.raheenleaghwindfarm.ie for details of their entrance location and routes.
COMMUNITY BENEFIT FUND
Raheenleagh Wind Farm operates a community fund which will be made available every year for the operational lifetime of the wind farm. We opened our community fund in 2015 and it is clear from the number and quality of applications received that this funding will be of significant benefit to the local community into the future. All applications were adjudicated by a local community panel. Notification to all applicants has now been issued and the fund will be distributed over the coming months.
The 2016 round of funding will open to accept applications in the autumn. For more information please keep an eye on our website www.raheenleaghwindfarm.ie
2015 funding has been committed to the following groups:

PROJECT TIMELINE WIND FARM OPERATION
Construction of the Raheenleagh Wind Farm commenced in June 2015. All construction works have now been completed including; the re-surfacing of 9km of access tracks, the completion of turbine foundations, an electrical
We recently held a number of workshops in local schools where students had the opportunity to learn about the benefits of renewable energy and even got the chance to build their own wind turbines.
INFORMING THE NEXT GENERATION
The facility will have a dedicated wind farm manager who will look after it’s operation during the 25 year life span of the farm. Once erected and extensively tested for safety, the turbines will be controlled from a control centre that constantly monitors the turbines. Each year the wind farm will generate enough energy to supply around 25,000 homes* with light, heating and power.

WIND TURBINE DELIVERY
Turbine deliveries to the wind farm will begin at the end of April 2016. To avoid local traffic disruption lorries will deliver the components during the early morning hours (3.00 to 7.00am). These deliveries will be intermittent over a period of approximately six weeks.
WIND TURBINE INSTALLATION
The first step is the installation of the two lower tower sections, turbine by turbine. This means that tower stumps will be seen at turbine locations prior to the remainder of the components being installed.
In total we expect there will be 33 nights of deliveries. All turbine deliveries will be made via the project’s turbine delivery route, which is illustrated below left. Updates will be available on our project website closer to the time.
