Simile Wall Let’s Get Creative (complete both) UIS do both, WIU and NIU can pick one

1. Use the information you just read to create a creative simile that compares Hitler’s violation of the Treaty of Versailles's to something in our real (or fictional) lives. Use a colorful sheet of paper and tape your idea to the wall. Check out the others while you are up there.

Example via Mr. Martinez: Hitler’s violation of the Treaty of Versailles is like this one time that a large, Filie alien attacked Muchin. The Filie alien had 6 eyes, 2 beards, and 5 toes. The students allowed the Filie alien to eat one student: Andrew Martinez. They hoped that the Filie alien would be too full to eat any more students.

2. Use the information you just read to create a creative similar completes this statement…”In 1940, the relationship between Japan and the United States was a lot like…” Place this on the other half of our simile wall! Check-out the others while you are up at the wall.

The Battle of Britain1. What does Churchill’s quote in the first paragraph indicate about his attitude toward the war?

STALINGRAD AND NORMANDY learn about these major battles before encountering them in the text

STALINGRAD

http://www.passports.com/lesson_plans/russia/world-war-ii-stalingrad

Use the reading above to answer the following questions:

1. What do the soldiers’ letters and communication reveal about Germany’s chances at Stalingrad?

2. How did Hitler respond? What does this response reveal about Hitler’s war tactics?

NORMANDY

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lDZs442oqxA

Use this video to better understand the battle of Normandy:

1. Where was the battle of Normandy located? Why?

2. The Allies lost more men than Germany. How was Normandy a success for the Allies?

Page 13: Welcome to World History Write everything that you know or think your know about the following terms: 1. Adolf Hitler 2. Fuhrer 3. Swastika 4. Concentration.

The Allies Ascendant 1. Based on paragraph one, which country was likely working with the United States?

2. What was the general outcome for the battles that were happening at the same time that Japan lost 28,000 at Guadalcanal? Think back to the beginning of WWII: have the victors of the majority of battles changed or stayed the same?

3. Think strategically (use a map): why were the Soviets and the Americans successful against the Germans (Stalingrad and D-Day/Normandy)?

4. Does the information on this website (http://topinfopost.com/2014/02/12/historians-lied-hitler-did-not-die-in-Germany) confirm or contradict what the text says? What does this suggest about what we know about history in general?

5. Imagine that you are Japanese: how might you remember Okinawa, Hiroshima, and Nagasaki? How do these events (possibly) shape your view of Americas?

Temperature Chart With your partner you will create your temperature chart. Refer to your assignment sheet for details. Please follow these steps in order to ensure success.

1. Select a DIFFERENT partner to work with (same college)

2. Select a perspective that you will be taking: the Allies (Britain and US focused) or Axis of Power (Germany and Japan focus)

3. Create a Google Document and share it with one another. On the Google Document, you should split up the work in order to accomplish the following: (1) a list of the events for your temperature chart (2) a description of each event (3) an explanation of how this event had a positive or negative impact on your alliance

4. After finishing and editing your Google Document, create a chart. You can elect to print items out and glue them to your paper. Be sure to include EVERYTHING from the assignment sheet, along with pictures and a great visuals!
