Median time to outcome? If you consider all the children who exited to an outcome in a particular year, 50% of them exited to that outcome by the “median months to outcome” number. (Note: the other half of the children took longer – this measure is often expressed in “median time to outcome” to eliminate unusually long-stayers from the “average” calculation.) Ex. Of all children in Whatcom County who exited to adoption in 2017, half of them had been in care 25 months or fewer, the other half longer (blue circle below).
