Before we could decide on who the main
audience for our film would be, we first
investigated similar movies such as The
shining, American Psycho and Psycho; all
successful psychological thrillers in their own
rights.
Gathering information from IMDB a popular
and trustworthy source, we deduced that our
audience will be 18-29s although we did have
trouble in deciding between that or under 18s
as they are the larger audience.
The research is shown below.
There is a 0.1 difference
between the gender in
our intended audience
From looking at this chart one can now understand that there is a logical choice
behind our intended audience; people aged 18-29 looking for intellectually
stimulating mainstream movies are (as shown) more likely to watch psychological
thriller
male audience and
female audience in
general are rather close
Past the 18-29 point, the
audience is steadily
decreasing.
The male and females
of our intended
audiences have a 0.1
difference, and are
again the second
largest audience
Once again Under 18s
have the larger
audience, this may be
due to the movies
influence
Like the others after
the 18-29s there is a
steady decrease;
however they still
managed at one
point to have the
same audience as
the 18-29s
Like American Psycho, the shining is a modern psychological thriller which distorts all
reason within society. Seeing as how their audience was structured in a similar way it
is clear as to why we have chose our intended audience.
Significantly large
amount of people under
18 have watched it.
Our intended
audience albeit
significantly larger
than American Psycho,
has less of an
audience than the
under 18.Once more past this point the
audience has significantly decreased;
however this still has a larger
audience than American psycho.
Looking at this chart one may now understand why we where quite hesitant in
choosing our intended audience, but we gathered that American psycho and The
shining being more modern and recent movies should be what we follow.
Although under 18’s (primarily 15-17) constitute the largest
audience for movies psychological thrillers, according to the
BBFC our movie is more veered towards 18-29s, justifying our
reason as to why we did not take much consideration into the
under 18s audience ratings.
18 works are for adults and can contain strong
issues such as:
very strong violence
frequent strong language (e.g. 'f***') and / or
very strong language (e.g. ‘c***’)
strong portrayals of sexual activity
scenes of sexual violence
strong horror
strong blood and gore
List of reasons taken from
the BBFC website which one
may find in our film.
Looking at the reasons it is evident that in choosing to do
anything below this will limit what we could add into the movie
e.g. strong violence, horror, gore, frequent strong language etc.
