Employment Opportunities (U.S.) Program Specialist- Small Grants, UN Women, New Deadline: 11/21/2014 Position Description: The United Nations Trust Fund to End Violence against Women (UN Trust Fund) was established through the UN General Assembly Resolution 50/166 with UN Women as its Administrator on behalf of the UN system. The UN Trust Fund is a global multi-lateral mechanism supporting national efforts to end violence against women, one of the most widespread human rights violations in the world. The UN Trust Fund provides technical assistance and funding to advance the development of innovative models and strategic interventions in the area of ending violence against women. It focuses on supporting the implementation of national laws and plans of action on ending violence against women, calling for greater attention to implementation of existing human rights standards; multi-sector approaches; strengthened partnerships among national governments, civil society and women’s groups; UN agencies and other key stakeholders; stronger institutional mechanisms at the national and sub national levels; and strengthened efforts for upscaling and sustainability. By 2013, the UN Trust Fund had supported 368 programs in 132 countries and territories with USD 95 million. The current active portfolio of the UN Trust Fund is USD 58 million for 84 organizations in the 73 Countries. In response to its 2009 external evaluation and 2014 audit recommendations for stronger monitoring and management of funded projects, the UN Trust Fund requires the position of the Program Specialist for small grants to provide dedicated capacity development support to funded projects as well as enhanced monitoring and portfolio management to its small grants portfolio. Under the supervision and guidance of the Chief of UN Trust Fund to End Violence against Women, the Program Specialist will be responsible for coordinating and monitoring the portfolio of Small UN Trust Fund grants ($50K -$100K). Qualifications: - Advanced university degree or equivalent in Political Science, International Development

Studies, Gender/Women’s Studies or other relevant field. - Minimum of five years of relevant national/international working experience in international

development, human rights, gender equality and women’s empowerment issues; - Knowledge and experience in working on addressing issues related to violence against women

and girls;

The specific areas in which the Fund is currently engaged include: - Racial justice: Recognizing the persistent effects of the United States’ history of racial

inequality, the Equality Fund focuses on the following areas that have the potential to yield measurable change in improving the conditions faced by people of color: combating racial profiling; ensuring access to quality public education, including by challenging unfair school discipline policies;; and fostering the development of a 21st century racial narrative that affirms the continuing need to remedy racial inequality.

- Immigrant rights and inclusion: As U.S. demographics shift, U.S. Programs is committed to ensuring newcomers are integrated into society, their contributions are recognized, and their rights and dignity are protected. To that end, the Equality Fund is actively involved at present in securing comprehensive immigration reform, and challenging harsh federal and state immigration enforcement laws that lead to profiling, detention and deportation.

Position Overview: The Program Specialist is responsible for providing overall support to the program management and program officers as they accomplish the mission of the Institute in the Middle East and North Africa, with a primary focus on Libya, Tunisia, and Egypt. The Program Specialist provides program/project management, monitoring and evaluation, and day-to-day administrative support for the program. The position is also responsible for developing and updating informational material, conducting research, maintaining program database, and supporting budget and contract management activities. This position reports to the Senior Program Manager for MENA and the Program Officer for North Africa, under the Center for the Middle-East and Africa at USIP. Qualification:

Deputy Director for National Action Plans, The Institute for Inclusive Security,

Washington DC Deadline: Not Specified Position Overview: In March 2013, The Institute for Inclusive Security launched a pioneering initiative to promote sustainable peace by advancing women’s leadership through effective national action plans (NAPs) worldwide. Under this initiative, Inclusive Security strengthens the capacity of government officials and others who design and implement core national security strategies. We have engaged intensively with policymakers and civil society in 6 countries to strengthen or design their plan. For example, we’ve worked with government and civil society in Afghanistan, building knowledge, skills, and commitment that led the formal adoption of a National Action Plan in October 2014; evaluated Bosnia’s National Action Plan and helped coordinate the drafting and adoption of a subsequent version; evaluated Canada’s Plan and provided recommendations for strengthening implementation; and worked with government and civil society to assessed implementation of Liberia’s National Action Plan. We have convened 130 policymakers and implementers from 16 sub-Saharan African Countries to strengthen their monitoring and evaluation systems; developed an online resource center for national action plan practitioners; and in partnership with Georgetown University and in support of Secretary Clinton’s No Ceilings initiative, will inaugurate a NAP Academy in December 2014 to facilitate learning among countries in all stages of plan development. The Deputy Director will focus on strategic planning, operations, and program management, including proposal development, budget planning and execution, monitoring, and evaluation. The main programmatic areas are country engagements, support for a national action plan community of practice (includes NAP Academy, Resource Center, and development and execution of training), and research. The incumbent of this position reports to the Director of National Action Plans. Qualifications:

Peace Processes Program Manager, Institute for Inclusive Security,

Washington DC Deadline: Not Specified Position Overview: Working to realize more inclusive peace processes around the world has been Inclusive Security’s primary aim since our founding. This work is premised on the research findings demonstrating that peace processes that are inclusive of women and civil society are far more likely to be sustained. The Peace Processes Program Manager will oversee two conflict programs at the outset of his/her assuming the position; this may expand. Leading this work requires defining strategic priorities for each program, designing and managing in-country interventions, expanding Inclusive Security’s network of women peace builders active in each conflict, conducting direct advocacy to policymakers to advance the inclusion of women in the related peace or security process, and effectively cultivating and managing resources, as well as evaluating and reporting on their use. This position reports to Inclusive Security’s Deputy Director for Policy and Conflict Programs and will supervise at least 1-2 conflict program staff. Qualifications:

- A master’s degree in international affairs or a related field required. - At least 5-7 years of experience in international program management required, preferably

with an advocacy-oriented NGO, think tank, or government body. - At least 1-2 years of international experience in peace and security issues required. - Regional expertise in South Asia strongly preferred. - Subject matter expertise in countering violent extremism and/or security assistance

strongly preferred. - Familiarity with congressional affairs preferred. - Excellent communication (oral and written) skills required. - Strong facilitation and training skills required. - Ability to conceptualize and lead strategic planning exercises (from the creation of log

frames to activity planning to the determination of a monitoring and evaluation approach) is essential.

Throughout the summer, Alfa Fellows attend a seminar program with key public and private sector officials to discuss current issues facing Russia. Fellows then work at prominent organizations in Russia, including private companies, media outlets, think tanks, and foundations. Eligible candidates must have a graduate degree and professional experience in business, economics, journalism, law, public policy, or a related field. Russian language proficiency is not required, but is preferred. The Fellowship includes a generous monthly stipend, language training, program-related travel costs, housing and insurance. Qualifications:

- U.S., U.K. or German citizen between the ages of 25 and 35 - Graduate degree and professional experience in business, economics, journalism, law,

government or public policy. Candidates without a graduate degree must demonstrate extensive and equivalent professional experience in their field.

- Outstanding professional achievement and academic qualifications - Active involvement in community or public service - Evidence of leadership potential - Russian language experience is preferred, however not required, at the time of application.
