At the salvation Army Kroc Centerpeople are inspired to discover their God given talents and develop their potential through artistic, educational, physical and spiritual experiences in a Christ-centered atmosphere.

It’s About the MissionThe Salvation ArmyThe Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love for God. Its mission is to

preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.

Nearly 33 million Americans receive assistance from The Salvation Army each year through a wide array of social services that range from providing food for the hungry, relief for disaster victims, assistance for the disabled, outreach to the elderly and ill, clothing and shelter to the homeless and opportunities for underprivileged children. About 83 cents of every dollar raised is used to support those services in nearly 9,000 communities nationwide.

For more information, go to www.salvationarmyusa.org.

Joan Kroc’s VisionIn January of 2004, Joan Kroc, wife of the McDon-ald’s restaurant chain founder Ray Kroc, left a gift of $1.6 billion to The Salvation Army to build and oper-ate community centers around the country. Joan’s vision was that people in underserved areas would be given access to a high quality facility with a variety of programs so they might discover their natural gifts and talents. Kroc Centers are now located in 26 cities, including Hawaii and Puerto Rico!

The Omaha Kroc Center, which opened in the fall of 2009, is one of five located in The Salvation Army’s Central Region. It was made possible through both the generosity of Ray and Joan Kroc as well as the Omaha community. Our Kroc Center currently serves approximately 3,000 members. The facility, programs and events are also open to the general public. In addition, groups and businesses rent the Kroc Center for a wide variety of professional meetings and personal events. “ I struggled with my weight from a young age (3rd grade to be exact). I got up to a women’s size 26/28 by the time I was 17. Eventually, I started working out with TurboFire dvd’s and would walk/run over lunch breaks with a friend. After 8 months of consistent workouts and modified nutrition, I had lost 106 lbs. Losing weight was so much more than just losing pounds. I found myself and my passion for fitness in the process. This was what led me to the Kroc Center. I had learned that there were TurboKick classes and HAD to experience it in person. I remember being so afraid to walk into a class. I was quickly put at ease though when I connected with other members. I was a regular class participant until I was offered a teaching position elsewhere. When the instructor from the Kroc Center sought me out to take over her Kroc Center classes, I was so excited to get back to the fitness studio where my exposure to group fitness began. Throughout my journey, I found my love for helping people. I understand the highs and lows; I have been through the challenges. This is a lot of why I became a Personal Trainer. I strive to help others discover their self-love and to develop healthier habits. I love to pay it forward and nothing brings me more joy than to see others achieve results. they are why I do what I do. ”

Dear Members and Friends of the Kroc Center:

Now to HIM who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to HIs power that is at work within us, to HIM be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever!

Amen. – Ephesians 3:20-21 (NIV)

When I was a young child I had an active imagination, I daydreamed that one day, I would be an Astronaut or a Jet Pilot. As I grew older, I became interested in football and track and field sports. Later, I started working out with weights and did years of power lifting. When I was near completing my college degree in management, I had a dream of one day owning my own fitness center.

Later, when I had graduated from college and started to sense God calling me to ministry in the Salvation Army, I thought I had given up my dream of one day running a fitness center. After 20 years of active ministry, my dream came true and I was appointed to direct the Kroc Center. This just showed me God knows the desires of our hearts and as the verse above from Ephesians 3:20 states “is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine”.

I never imagined God would call me to take an active part in leading a state of the art community center, with 3 gyms, 2 swimming pools, 8 classrooms, 110 pieces of fitness equipment and a performing art center. Who would have believed after only 5 years of being open the Omaha Kroc Center would be approaching a door check attendance of one million people who have been touched by our services?

It is my prayer now the Kroc Center is helping you reach your dreams and goals which may have at one time been beyond your imagination. Perhaps learning to swim, gaining better health or trying a new sport or art class. Keep dreaming and reaching for new life goals and let us help inspire you to a new life you once only dreamed of.

His Witnesses,

Major Todd Thielke Major Cathy Thielke Senior Kroc Center Officer Officer for Program Development

FLOAT4LIFE LEssOns AGES 1 - 3 Float4Life is a water safety program that teaches young children, ages 1-3, how to roll on their backs (like an Otter!) so they can breathe, float and reach the side of the pool until help arrives. Those precious seconds can save a life! Sessions include 8 lessons, each 15 min-utes long. These “mini” lessons maximize the short attention span of toddlers while gradually increas-ing the child’s comfort level in the water through personalized one-to-one instruction. The program is a partnership between the Omaha Kroc Center and the Joshua Colling-sworth Memorial Foundation.

“too Brief Here on earth, But His impact Will last forever…”

Josh the Otter was created in honor of Joshua Collingsworth, a 21/2 old little boy who was lost to a drown-ing accident in June of 2008 in Lincoln, NE. His parents believed they had all the pool safety barriers in place but did not spend enough time talking to him about never go-ing near the pool unless mom and dad were with him. During a fam-ily gathering he was briefly out of sight, went to fill his brother’s squirt gun, lost his balance and fell in the pool. Josh the Otter’s goal is to educate all children that water is fun but only with an adult. The Joshua Collingsworth Memorial Foundation is dedicated to water safety and life saving programs like Float4Life.

yo-Chi™ AGES 16+

This fusion program gives you benefits in both stability/strength and mobility/flexibility as two of the oldest mind/body programs are combined. Yoga depends on being still and finding stability; whereas much of T’ai Chi involves slow, controlled never ending mobility – doing these disciplines (some-times back and forth and sometimes to-gether) increases your overall wellness.

zUmbA® AGES 14+ The routines feature interval training ses-sions where fast and slow rhythms and resistance training are combined to tone and sculpt your body while burning fat. Add some Latin flavor and international zest into the mix and you’ve got Zumba®! This is a 50-minute class and all fitness levels are wel-come! Maximum class size of 35 individuals – arrive early to get a spot!

zUmbA® GOLD AGES 14+

Zumba® Gold is based on the same dance moves used in the original Zumba® class. The Gold class, however, is less intense, with dance routines designed for beginners and older adults using modified movements. The class strives to improve balance, flexibility and cardiovascular strength. Let’s Zumba®!

InPOSITIVE YOuTH DEVELOPMENTDo you remember the first friend you made in grade school? Or maybe it is easier to remember your favorite teacher or neighbor...what made him or her so special? The simple act of taking time to make a new friend or express interest in the life of a young person can have a larger impact than you realize.

As young people develop, each individual still needs attention, acknowledgment, encouragement and posi-tive relationships with adult role models. These things empower young people to make positive choices as they grow up.

research shows intergenerational relationships are one of the most important assets a young person can have. The Kroc Center exists so our community has a place to form inspirational relationships, and we encourage you to positively impact the life of a young person today.

At the Kroc Center, we are committed to developing a community that cares for children and youth. Learn more about simple, intentional ways that you can partner with us to develop and transform young lives by contacting Lt. Judith Fetzer, Officer for Youth Development at [email protected] or 402-905-3521. VolUnteer!Often referred to as “the army behind the Army,” volunteers play an active role in the success of The Salvation Army Kroc Center! Caring people, who would enjoy coaching, mentor-ing, giving tours or those who simply want to do something completely different than their daily routine, are encouraged to join the Kroc Center volunteer team.

Volunteering does not require extensive skill or training, but it does require heart. If you have the heart to help, the Kroc Center would love to hear from you! For a Volunteer Enroll-ment Form and to get more information on how you can make a difference please contact:

Brianna lock, Kroc Center Volunteer Coordinator402-905-3519 [email protected]

The Kroc Center offers a variety of volunteer opportunities for both groups and individuals of all ages and interests:

Donate!Joan Kroc knew that healthy, happy, confident people are better parents, earn higher grades in school, enjoy their jobs and are more productive, and actively pursue a better future for their community. That is why she trusted The Salvation Army with her dream that Kroc Centers would bring com-munities together.

Omaha’s Kroc Center does this every day. We start by honor-ing what each person brings with them and then match them to programs and activities that help them discover and develop those unique talents. Our goal is to help everyone achieve successes that build confidence and self-esteem, but we sometimes encounter a family who we know would really benefit from the Kroc Center, but they simply can’t af-ford to join. That is when the generosity of donors kicks in.

The Kroc Center’s Scholarship Fund permits us to reduce the cost of membership to a level that anybody can afford. When you donate to support scholarships, you’re honoring Mrs. Kroc’s original founding gift to the Salvation Army. She wanted Kroc Centers to provide benefit to the community and to be sustained by the community.

More importantly, your gift helps families right here in Omaha develop important skills and confidence, and enjoy some quality time together. Your donation goes to work immediately to keep memberships and program costs low, assuring everybody has access.

Just like Joan Kroc wanted. To donate, please contact John Wehrle, Director of Donor relations at 402-905-3527. Thank you for your support.
