A message from the Principal Class Team…

Dear Parents, Carers and Students,

Thank you to Mrs Dodd, Mr McBride and Mr Kyvetos for planning and organising the Woodville Wheel-a-thon, held last Thursday at school. The wheel-a-thon was a great success; we had bicycles, scooters, prams, skateboards, trundle wheels, and even a couple of wheelbarrows!

As we stated in the previous newsletter, next week our year 3 and year 5 students will be participating in the annual NAPLAN tests. The areas tested are Language Conventions (Spelling, Grammar & Punctuation), Persuasive or Narrative Writing, Reading Comprehension and Mathematics. The results of the tests provide valuable information for parent/guardians and teachers about individual children’s performance in Literacy and Numeracy.

2019 Prep Enrolments If you have a child who is eligible to come to school in 2019 (turning 5 years of age by April 30, 2019), we are accepting enrolments now.

To enrol you will need to bring: Child’s birth certificate

Immunisation certificate

Visa (Passport) if child is not born in Australia

Proof of residential address (Utility bill e.g. gas/electricity)

If you know someone who would like a tour of our school, please have them call the office on 9749-2770 to make an appointment.

Our staff participated in a professional learning day with renowned mathematician Charles Lovett on Monday. Staff enjoyed hands-on, open-ended activities, designed to inspire discussion, challenge thinking and help children learn to love maths. Charles spoke about putting Mathematics in context: using mathematics to solve real problems and giving children opportunities to earn the skills as part of the problem-solving process. Here are some photos of our staff enjoying the professional learning day…

Wishing all mothers, grandmothers, carers, guardians and special ladies a lovely Mother’s Day. Lyn, Jodi & Nadia Principal Class Team

You better watch out -

Every Day Counts

EVERYDAY COUNTS Going to school every day is the single most important part of your child's education. Students learn new things at school every day - missing school puts them behind. The class with the best attendance for the last fortnight is 4C – Miss Robinson. Congratulations – you will get 10 minutes extra play on Monday!

You Can Sit With Me – an Inclusion program

This term the You Can Sit with Me representatives will start volunteering their time to support students during recess and lunchtimes. As part of their role, You Can Sit with Me representatives will help students find or establish friendships in the yard. They will redirect students to a teacher, if required. Look out for the YCSWM reps in our yard – they will be wearing yellow wristbands and lanyards to show that they uphold our whole school values (Respect, Responsibility, Resilience, and Inclusion) and will welcome anyone to sit with them. We wish our first representatives a successful term – congratulations to the following students.

Junior Triple 0 Hero

Teaching children the importance of when to call 000 really pays off. Cooper Decker, a former student of Woodville Primary School had to call 000 in November for his mum Mel Causby. On Wednesday the 18th of April Cooper received a Junior Triple 0 Hero award at Parliament House. This was a very proud moment for Cooper and his family. Congratulations Cooper!

Finally, through the crowd of scooters, I ran out of breath. Bailey I loved the wheel-a-thon; it was exciting and a little freaky at first. Eventually I got used to it that is why I liked it. The wheel-a-thon went for 30 minutes. People bought all types of wheels. It was about raising money for sports equipment. Kydan

What a wheelie wonderful day! Thank you to the families who have already sent in their sponsorship money.
