GRADUATE

COURSE OPTIONS

We offer a range of university pathway courses at Glasgow International College. These offer

progression to a wide variety of bachelor’s and master’s degrees at the University of Glasgow.

The Scottish education systemIn Scotland, students normally take exams called ‘Highers’ before going to university for their bachelor’s (or undergraduate) degree. This degree usually takes 4 years to complete. Our Foundation Certificate courses are specifically designed for international students, and provide entry to year 2 of a Scottish undergraduate degree.

Some university graduates then go on to study a master’s (or postgraduate) degree. This usually lasts 1 year, but might take longer. Our Pre-Master’s courses bridge the gap between your existing university credit, and the level needed for entry to postgraduate study.

Lower IELTS?If you do not meet the English language entry level for one of our pathway courses, but have at least UKVI IELTS 4.0 in all skills, we can offer you a course with Extended English and Skills (EES). Contact us for more details about EES.

Irina Kononova is a Russian student studying a Pre-Master’s course at the International College, progressing to a master’s degree at the University of Glasgow. We asked her to tell us about her time at the International College.

I chose to study at the International College as the University of Glasgow is well known in my country, and it offers a very good programme for what I wanted to study.

My favourite class is the Economics seminar. The lectures can be quite fast, but in the seminar we have the chance to discuss materials we covered in the lectures. I also like Skills for Study. It’s definitely improved my essay-writing and presentation skills. I now feel more confident giving speeches in English.

Actually, my English has improved a lot. I had significantly less knowledge when I arrived. I knew the basics of writing essays and researching in Russia, but here I’ve learnt how to paraphrase and use different structures. Now I even understand the Scottish accent!

I really enjoy living in Glasgow. There’s beautiful sightseeing here. Walking around the university, I feel like I’m studying with Harry Potter! There’s good shopping, and in the town of Irvine nearby, there’s a shopping centre and it’s near the seaside. The nature here is also really good – there’s a lot of flowers and everything is so green.

“The local people are the kindest people in the world.”

The local people are the kindest people in the world. They’re really helpful. Any time I’ve asked someone for directions, they’ll pull out their own phone to help you check.

I’ve made friends very easily. I’m part of the student council, so I’ve met lots of people from lots of different nationalities. We do surveys with other students and present our findings so

the College knows what needs to be improved. I make a big effort to meet different students at the College because sometimes they’re shy about using their English.

I’m looking forward to studying my master’s degree at the University. I feel totally prepared – the College helped me to get ready. The most important thing is to just be confident.
