Meditation

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.

– Martin Luther King, Jr

To love someone means to see them as God intended them.– Fyodor Dostoyevsky

Lord, grant that I might not so much seek to be loved as to love.

– Francis of Assisi

MEET OUR STEPHEN LEADERS

Suzie Boggess Stephen Ministry has held a special place in my heart for some time now. My faith has grown in many ways since I began this ministry, and I trust it will continue as I become a Stephen Leader. I am grateful for the opportunity to serve in this way.

Page 6: Worship Guide 090714

Angie McElhaney I got involved with Stephen Ministry as I know how busy, yet lonely, life can get at times. This Ministry teaches us to be better listeners and keep the focus on God as the caregiver. We are blessed to have a caring, compassionate Stephen Ministry team. I hope to carry on the legacy and help us grow in service to our church members and community.

Luda Teterina I have been a nurse my entire professional career, so helping people isn’t new to me. Stephen Ministry is much like nursing, in that it is most effective when you care for one person at a time. Stephen Ministry provides unique opportunities to use our God-given gifts of care, compassion, understanding, empathy, and encouragement to make a difference in people’s lives in times when they need it the most. My hope for the Stephen Ministry of Second Baptist Church is that we, individually and as a team, grow in God’s grace and that through this growth people’s lives might be changed and touched by the visible expressions of God’s love.
