SEPA

Fluvial Geomorphological surveys on >3500km of rivers classified as

failing under the Water Framework Directive to determine current

state.

Largest and most comprehensive survey of this kind to be

commissioned in the UK. Covers one third of the total number of

rivers classified as less than good in Scotland.

Aim to identify practical solutions to allow SEPA to achieve WFD

compliance by 2027.

…“You don‟t change the culture by trying to change the

culture – you change the culture by changing behaviour”

…“changing behaviour is not just about technology it has to consider human and business processes – it takes time and requires a considered, consistent and collaborative approach” and, if necessary enforceable.

…“it takes time and requires a considered, consistent and

collaborative approach”

January 31st 2013 was the 30th anniversary of the

UK's first (front) seat belt law coming into force… in

1983 nearly a third of AA members were happy

not to Clunk-Click

Drink driving campaign is 50 years old! In

1965 1,640 were killed, last year 230 – this

is still 230 too many

©Synthotech 2015

There are around 40 accidental deaths a

year from carbon monoxide in England

and Wales!

Conclusions

…“you change the culture by changing the behaviour!” …“technology is most likely the easy part”

…“changing behaviour requires a clear enforceable campaign” …“remove all blockers”

…“GDN‟s are not innovation averse, they are risk averse” …“based on a compelling business case – „must haves‟

…“Plan – Process – Campaign – Commitment”

…“embed knowledge, know-how and skill” - we put people in difficult and demanding roles and don‟t prepare them properly

…“benefit for all” - reward people‟s output …“you need a shared sense of collective responsibility”

…“performance monitoring” …“communicate the success”
