    2 - WTC 2009

About 10 years ago some ofus sensed that God wanted tocreate a new training resourcethat would serve the Charismaticchurches in the UK with akingdom-focused theology.

In 2006 a number of theological educators and

church leaders from around the world startedto talk with renewed vigour about intentionalcooperation. Westminster Theological Centre(WTC) and leaders of New Wine quickly senseda common purpose; God was bringing togetherministries and birthing something new.

WTC has grown out of the experience oftheological training delivered in the localchurch context that began when CrispinFletcher-Louis started work as ResidentTheologian at St Marys Bryanston Square,in September 2004. WTC is dedicated tothe delivery of robust theology and trainingthat equips local churches for the growth of

Jesus Kingdom; and since its foundation in2006, has trained students in degree-leveltheology. The result is nearly ve yearsexperience of the needs, challenges andopportunities of the context of a local church

focused on mission and church planting.

Church history suggests that signicantmovements of God are stimulated by aconvergence of theological content, ministryand mission. Often theological exploration hasbeen taken up with concerns removed fromthe front line of Church life in the power ofthe Spirit. But at times of renewal and revival, theological content and training becomesaligned to the needs and character of Godskingdom manifestation and church growth.

In the 18th Century, England was sweptby a revival initiated by a group of Oxford-educated and highly literate evangelists:the Wesleys preached outside the connesof existing church structures and emptiedthe gin-halls of the downtrodden workingclasses who became intoxicated by Godslove and his Spirit. In the rst half of thesame century in New England the GreatAwakening was accompanied by many signsof the Spirits presence and was led by thephilosopher-theologian Jonathan Edwards. Inour own time, the recovery of Jesus messageand the experience of Gods kingdom wasspearheaded by the late John Wimber, a one-time member of the teaching faculty of FullerTheological Seminary (in California). At thesetimes of renewal there has been a growth incondence in Gods power, obedience to his

word and, simultaneously a renewed clarityof theological perception focused on Jesus(his words, deeds and personal presence).

In creating the New Wine Training Partnership(NWTP) we are offering local churches andindividuals the opportunity to invest time andenergy in training that equips the whole Body

of Christ to see Jesus Kingdom grow. Wehope you will join us in this venture, and thepages that follow outline the training on offer.

We are offering three courses;one at undergraduate entrylevel and two for graduates.

The ueaate Ceticate i KiThely is a fully accredited level 4* course(equivalent to a rst year as an undergraduateat university). This course has 120-credit

units and takes two years to complete.

    1. A Tw-Yea ueaate Ceticatei Ki Thely: 120 Creditsundertaken half-time (an average of circa12 hours per week over one year)We are not currently offering a full-timeundergraduate level study course. However, study on the 120-credit course may be taken

for just one year. In this case, studentswill have undertaken work across all coresubjects (biblical theology, ministry andleadership, spirituality and church historyand mission) and then will have 60 creditsthat can be transferred to another tertiaryeducation study programme (and that will, for example, count towards ordinationtraining). The Undergraduate Certicate isthe rst level of a full BA course that will

be rolled out over the coming years.

The gaate Ceticate i KiThely is a fully accredited level 6* course. The student attains a level of competenceequivalent to that of a full BA course (and maythen proceed to study towards an MA or similarqualication). This course has 120-creditunits and takes two years to complete ifworking half-time; one year if studentsstudy full-time. So, there are two Graduatecourses for which students can apply:

    2.A Tw-Yea gaate Ceticate i KiThely: 120 Credits, undertaken half-time.

    3. A oe-Yea gaate Ceticate i KiThely: 120 Credits, undertaken full-time.

The Graduate Certicate is the rstlevel of a full MA course that will berolled out over the coming years.

The core subjects covered at Undergraduateand Graduate levels are the same.

Graduate content and assessment is ata higher level and takes for granted thestudy, communication and conceptualskills attained during a rst degree.

    Undergraduate and Graduate Courses

share broadly the same aims and thesegovern the overall shape of the curriculumand the content of individual modules.

I wanted to be equipped for leadership in everyway. The course has taught me to read the Bible, expanded my imagination and made me hungryto understand Scripture better. Ive been soexcited and inspired by what Ive learnt I justwant more. I love the God Im discovering!Jenny - A development charity worker

    * Please note that tertiary education levels haverecently been re-numbered. The new level 4 is theold level 1 and the new level 6 is the old level 3.

    Spiitality &Chch Histy

Church History is approachedwith a focus on spiritualityand an appreciation forthe ways in which God hascontinued to work in the

church and in the world downthrough the ages. We readsome classics in the historyof Christian spirituality, discovering the ways inwhich they help us face thechallenges of life today: life inthe Spirit, life in community, pastoral care, leadership andgrowth into Christs character.

    dctie

Students are introduced to thehistory and biblical shape ofChristian doctrine especiallyas this inspires our vision forChristian worship, prayer,

discipleship and mission andas it guides our thinking aboutthe nature of healthy churchand life in the Spirit. Downthrough the centuries greatminds with big hearts havehelped the church think inan organised way about Godand his ways in the world. Thequestions these theologians

faced are as pressing todayas they were in the 3rd and16th centuries. The classicsin Christian Doctrine lead usdeeper into worship of Godfor his wisdom and power.

Concepts and image-systems which appear throughout the Bible- humanity made in the image of God, the Son of Man, the temple, the Genesis narrative - have gone from being familiar weirdnesses,to hugely engaging and exciting in their contextualised and appliedmeaning. I suddenly have a vocabulary to understand (and explain andexplore) the Bible that I simply didnt have before. This is extremelyexciting and empowering, both personally and in my work.Debs Film-maker
