He is survived by his wife Kristin Scowden Hughes, his daughter Kara Salgado and her husband Henry, his grandson Cole Salgado and sister Betsy Baum- bauer. Additionally, he leaves behind many other family and friends who will deeply miss him. later he became a polo umpire and land developer. Tom played in and won the inaugural USPA Gold Cup in 1974. He won 3 But-ler Handicaps and the National 20 Goal twice. He also won the American Cup once. Tom Hughes was the Chief umpire and headed up the umpire program for

the USPA for many years. He was on the tournament committee of IPC since the inception of the club until his death. Tom also managed the Greenwich and Bridge-hampton Polo Clubs in the late 90’s. Tom did not want a funeral, he only wanted his pals to have a party, a memo-rial BBQ in his honor at the Gulfstream Polo Club on Friday, April 1st at 7pm.
