Metadata Manager does not display impact or lineage for the following

    Data Integrator objects:

    COBOL copybooks

    DTDs

    EXCEL workbooks

    Hierarchies

    XML schemas

The Data Integrator Metadata Integrator does not extract metadata from

    memory datastores.

The BusinessObjects Enterprise Metadata Integrator will terminate any

open Universe Designer and Desktop Intelligence Designer sessions

before it starts the extraction. Ensure that no users are using the Designerbefore you run the BusinessObjects Enterprise Metadata Integrator on

    the same computer.

Multiple installations of Metadata Manager cannot use the same Metadata

Manager Repository. For example, you cannot use the same Metadata

Manager to extract metadata from both BusinessObjects Enterprise XI

and BusinessObjects Enterprise XI Release 2. You must install a separate

Metadata Manager for each version of BusinessObjects Enterprise, one

    on each computer.

The SQL parser in Metadata Manager has limited parsing capabilities to

extract column names and table names to build the relationships. This

limitation might occur in situations such as the following:

If you do not qualify column names in a derived table with the table

name, the Metadata Integrator cannot associate the column to the

correct table and displays the following warning message:

Parsing failure for derived Table .

Note: Qualify the column name with the table name: table_name.col

umn_name or add the tables used by the derived tables to the

universe. The Metadata Integrator treats the universe tables as a

system catalog to find the table and column references.

If a Metadata Integrator fails to parse the SQL for a view, it cannot

build the source-target relationship between the view and the table or

tables upon which the view is based.

    Unable to parse SQL:

Note: The Metadata Integrators collect the SQL statement and the

Metadata Manager Explorer displays it. Analyze the SQL statement

in the Metadata Manager Explorer and establish a user-defined

relationship for these tables and columns.

Metadata Manager does not export the SQL statement for a view to the

    CWM XML file.

    Troubleshooting

The following sections tell you how to interpret the warning and error

messages that you might see in the database log and file log for each

    Metadata Integrator run.

    Error messages

Could not continue scan with NOLOCK due to data movement

Cause: Due to an SQL Server limitation with multiple clients, this error might

occur when you run multiple Metadata Integrators in parallel against the SQL

Server database that you use for your Metadata Manager Repository. This

error might occur when you are running on SQL Server versions prior toSP4.

Action: To resolve this problem, install SQL Server SP4. For details, see:

Cause: The BusinessObjects Enterprise Metadata Integrator cannot uniquely

identify a universe object that is used to create a Crystal Report when theobject has the same name as another object in a different universe class.

Therefore, the Integrator cannot establish the correct relationship between

the universe object and the report. However, the Integrator can establish a

relationship between the source table or column and the report because the

SQL parser can find the source column used by the universe object.

Parsing failure. Unable to find columns for SQL withselect *.

Cause: The BusinessObjects Enterprise Metadata Integrator cannot collect

the metadata for a universe derived table if the SQL used in the derived table

table name: table_name.column_name. If you do not qualify the column

name, the Metadata Integrator cannot associate the column to the correct

    table.

Cause: If a database connection is not configured for Trusted Authentication

in BusinessObjects Enterprise, you must supply the user id and password

at runtime. If you try to collect metadata for a report that uses a non-Trusted

connection to the database, the report collection fails.

Action: Configure both your BusinessObjects Enterprise server and client

to enable Trusted Authentication. For details, see the BusinessObjects

    Enterprise Administrator's Guide.

Cause: The extract for Web Intelligence documents fails if you create your

Web Intelligence documents with the Refresh on Open option and the

computer on which you run the BusinessObjects Enterprise Metadata

Integrator does not have connection to the source database on which the

    reports are defined.

    Resolved Issues in version 11.7.1.0

This section lists resolved issues in version 11.7.1.0 in descending order by

    Business Objects tracking number.

    Long mapping expressions

    Problem number: ADAPT00847701

The metadata integrator for Data Integrator did not handle mapping

expressions that are longer than 1000 characters.

    This issue has been fixed.

    Name on transformation step

    Problem number: ADAPT00792153

Impact and lineage tabs showed the technical names of the transformation

step instead of the business names. Also the label of the transformation step

did not change according to the integrator source.

    This issue has been fixed.

    Column mappings in tabular view

    Problem number: ADAPT00790872

Metadata Manager only displayed the column mapping for each individual

column in a table on the lineage tab for that column. You could not view all

of the column mappings for a target table at the same time.

This problem has been fixed. Metadata Manager now provides a Column

Mappings option to display mappings for all columns on the Lineage tab of

    a target table.

    Problem number: ADAPT00741564

For databases without schema or owner names (such as Red Brick), when

you viewed a data flow that contains a source and target table with the same

name, Metadata Manager showed only the source table even though the

    tables belong to different datastores.

    This issue has been fixed.

    TINYINT column in MySQL

    Problem number: ADAPT00706173

The Relational Database metadata integrator for MySQL collected a TINYINT

column and stored it as data type BIT.

This problem has been fixed. The Relational Database metadata integrator

now correctly stores a TINYINT column with the correct data type in the

    Metadata Manager repository.

    8-bit characters

    Problem number: ADAPT00648532

For case-insensitive databases, certain 8-bit characters did not displayproperly in the Metadata Manager Explorer. Upper case of certain 8-bit

characters were not valid 8-bit characters anymore.

    Known Issues

This section lists known issues in descending order by Business Objectstracking number.

    Metadata integrators

    Problem number: ADAPT00857901

If you installed a metadata integrator that is not packaged with Metadata

Manager, upgrading Metadata Manager removes the metadata collected by

    that metadata integrator.

    User impact for existing objects

    Problem number: ADAPT00854128

If you run an incremental extract (Full Extract = False) on a BusinessObjects

Enterprise repository after you upgrade to 11.7.1, the metadata integrator

does not collect User and Group lineage information for existing objects.

Incremental extract only extracts and stores information for new or modified

objects. Because the old objects were not modified, the metadata integrator

does not collect the new user impact information for them.

Workaround: Run the BusinessObjects Enterprise metadata integrator in full

extract mode (Full Extract = True) to obtain user impact information on

    existing objects.

Test connection for Data Integrator for DB2 repository

    Problem number: ADAPT00789662

If you click the Test Connection option for the Data Integrator Metadata

Integrator for a DB2 repository, an error message appears. Even though this

error meesage appears, the integrator will run successfully.

Tabular view on Impact and Lineage tabs

    Problem number: ADAPT00717800

In the tabular view on the Impact tab and Lineage tab of the Metadata

Manager Explorer, the column titles Steps from Source and Steps from

Target do not accurately describe the contents. Both column titles should

be something like Steps from Selected Object.

    Administrator and Explorer sessions

    Problem number: ADAPT00663921

Launching the Metadata Manager Administrator and Metadata Manager

Explorer from Start > Programs > BusinessObjects Metadata Manager causes

both applications to share the same session. Therefore, if you logout of one

application, you also logout of the other application.

To avoid this problem, please launch a new browser window and type the

    URL for the required application.

    Desk Intelligence documents

    Problem number: ADAPT00643919

BusinessObjects Desk Intelligence documents based on 8-bit universe names

    give the following error:

Unable to establish Universe Object relationship

This error is because 8-bit universe names return with incorrect encoding

    by the Desktop SDK.

Unqualified column in Web Intelligence document

    Problem number: 35677 - ADAPT00618460

If the SQL query for a Web Intelligence document includes a column name

that is not fully qualified, the BusinessObjects Enterprise Metadata Integrator

cannot find the table associated with it. For these columns, the Metadata

Integrator logs display messages such as the following:

WebI document [documentname]. SQL parsing error. Unable to findtable associated with column [columnname]

Because the column might be referenced multiple times in the SQL query, multiple messages for the same column might appear.

busobj.exe process for Desktop Intelligence documents

    Problem number: 35646 - ADAPT00618424

BusinessObjects Metadata Manager Release Notes 23

    1Metadata Manager Release Notes

    Known Issues

  • 8/7/2019 Xir2 Mm Release Notes En

    24/30

Under certain circumstances, the busobj.exe process for Desktop Intelligence

    documents might hang.

To continue metadata collection for the remaining documents, end the

busobj.exe process from the Windows Task Manager.

To collect metadata for the specific document that caused the hang, modify

the document and run the Metadata Integrator in incremental extract mode.

Universe filters used in Crystal Reports

    Problem number: 35645 - ADAPT00618423

The BusinessObjects Enterprise Metadata Integrator does not collect universe

filters used in a query for Crystal Reports. However through the SQL parser,

the Integrator can establish a relationship between the table or column (used

by the filter) and the report.

Oracle database for Metadata Manager Repository

    Problem number: 35642 - ADAPT00618419

Metadata Manager Explorer might take a long time to browse and search a

Metadata Manager Repository that is an Oracle database type.

Run UPDATE STATISTICS on your Oracle database to improve performance.

    Duplicate column information

    Problem number: 35589 - ADAPT00618358

Metadata Manager might show duplicate column information in lineage

analysis for a Web Intelligence document that is based on a universe-derived

    table.

    Connection to Metadata Manager Repository

    Problem number: ADAPT00617581

Metadata Manager loses connection to the Metadata Manager Repository

    when the following situations occur:

Restarting the Metadata Manager Repository database server

Disconnecting and reconnecting the Metadata Manager web server to

    the network
