L-950 Loader

The P&H LeTourneau-Series L-950 wheel loader is the most powerful and productive wheel

loader in its class. Quick and agile, the L-950 wheel loader features a 783 kW (1,050 hp)

engine with a 24,494 kg (54,000 lbs) payload and a 13.76 m³ (18 yd³) rock bucket in a standard

configuration. Powered by the ultra-efficient Switched Reluctance (SR) Drive system, the L-950

assures high performance with low fuel consumption and makes it a stand-out performer

against all competition. The L-950 is ideally sized to load the 75-150 ton rear dump haulers.

L-1150 Loader

Introduced in 2008, the L-1150 was the first full SR Generation 2 loader. This impressive

899 kW (1205 hp) wheel loader has a standard payload of 34,473 kg (76,000 lbs) making it an

ideal match for loading 120 - 200 ton trucks. This advanced SR diesel-electric drive vehicle

features up to 45% fuel savings over comparable, mechanical drive competitors. The L-1150

delivers faster cycle times, superior productivity and lower operating costs. As a result of

its lower hydraulics/fluids requirements and being extremely fuel-efficient, it is the most

environmentally responsible wheel loader in its class.

L-1350 Loader

L-1350 loaders are time-proven, work-hardened machines and were the first LeTourneau-Series

wheel loaders to utilize SR traction motors, beginning in 2004 and in every L-1350 since. Now,

all Generation 2 machines benefit from the SR Generator advantages, LINCS II controls and

monitoring, as well as the technological advances found in Generation 2 technology.

Designed to load 200-260 ton haul trucks, this 1193 kW (1600 hp) wheel loader touts a

40,823 kg (90,000 lbs) standard payload with a base rock bucket capacity of 22.94 m³ (30 yd³).

Fast cycle times, with easily loaded SAE rated buckets, results in maximum fill with each load

creating a superior, productive and fuel-efficient mining machine.

L-1850 Loader

L-1850 Generation 2 loaders with SR technology are the high-performance workhorse of our

P&H LeTourneau-Series fleet. They deliver exceptional productivity and outstanding reliability

with low operating costs. This 1491 kW (2000 hp) wheel loader with its 54,431 kgs (120,000 lbs)

payload and 30.58 m³ (40 yd³) standard bucket is designed to load 240-360 ton trucks. Work-

proven in coal and hard rock mines around the world, the L-1850 sets the benchmark for wheel

loader reliability, productivity and fuel efficiency.

L-2350 Loader

The colossal L-2350, SR electric drive wheel loader is, by far, the world’s largest wheel

loader and is designed to center load the ultra-class 400+ ton trucks with ease. The 1715

kW (2300 hp) L-2350 provides remarkably fast cycle times with outstanding productivity

at a fraction of the initial investment cost of large excavators and shovels. This super fuel-

efficient wheel loader provides all of the versatility and flexibility that customers have come

to expect from a P&H LeTourneau-Series wheel loader, while providing a huge 72,574 kgs

(160,000 lbs) payload.

Independent four-wheel SR electric drive The heart of every Generation 2 machine

Joy Global is the only wheel loader manufacturer in the world to offer advanced

electric drive across all wheel loader models. Each electric drive wheel is fully

independent from the other positions, resulting in the only true independent four

wheel drive system on the wheel loader market. Generation 2 machines also offer

significantly quicker response for improved traction control and reduced tire slip. This

reduces tire scrubbing during turning (articulation) and controls tire slip on wet and

slippery surfaces for extended tire life, when compared to mechanical drive wheel

loaders.

In addition to the inherent low center of gravity and superior stability of

electric drive, the Generation 2 wheel loader requires fewer decisions to be made by

the operator, allowing more focus on the digging face and loading the haul truck. This

results in reduced operator fatigue and quicker cycle times with less degradation from

the beginning of the shift to the end of the shift.

Unlike our mechanical drive competitors, the P&H LeTourneau-Series wheel loaders

have No power robbing torque converter, No three speed transmission, No

transfer cases, No differentials, No power transferring universal joints and

No drive shafts and require far less fluids on board. Ultimately, this results in

greater productivity, lower maintenance costs and superior reliability.

Longer Tire Life

Generation 2 SR drive systems combine

true independent four wheel drive

with an advanced instantaneous

wheel speed control system for better

traction and less slippage. In fact, all

Generation 2 wheel loaders boast the

added benefit of extended tire wear – up

to double that offered by conventional

mechanical drive machines.

Reduced Fuel Burn – Increased Fuel Efficiency

Generation 2 SR electric drive wheel

loaders deliver outstanding fuel

efficiency – in some cases up to 45%

less fuel consumption than comparable

sized mechanical drive wheel loaders –

because they are engineered for the most

fuel efficient operation possible. Our

exclusive SR electric drive system is the

key. This advanced system allows the

engine to operate at constant rated

rpm. Our competitors are required to

accelerate and decelerate through the

engine RPM range with gear changes

during the loading cycle in order to follow

the engine torque curve. This results in

significantly greater fuel consumption.

Another important advantage with SR

electric drive is that the motors are used

to generate recoverable power. While

in braking/retarding, the power that is

generated by the wheel motors is fed

back into the generator, which then

performs as a motor powering the engine,

overcoming parasitic and hydraulics loads,

reducing engine HP requirements and

saving fuel. We’re so confident of the fuel

efficiency of our wheel loaders that we

are prepared to guarantee lower fuel

consumption when compared to similar

sized mechanical drive machine.

Less Maintenance and Downtime

The Generation 2 machines have no

carbon brushes to chip, burn,

monitor or replace; as well as, no

commutator to grind, undercut

or replace. The SR motors/generator

consist of a simple, virtually, indestructible

laminated stack, iron rotor without copper

windings to fail due to over-speed or

overheating and features simple DC stator

field coils. SR drive eliminates those

concerns and limits motor maintenance

to replacing two bearings on the motors

and one bearing on the generator about

every 20,000 to 30,000 hours, greatly

reducing scheduled maintenance and

down time.

SR Drive

Standard equipment on all Generation

2 wheel loaders, the proven SR drive

technology delivers a high level of

performance and reliability. Simple

by design, the SR traction motor

provides maximum torque at slowest

RPM for optimum digging. In fact,

unlike mechanical drive competitors,

peak tractive effort (rimpull) is achieved

requiring approximately twenty-five

percent (25%) of the engines rated

horsepower. Also, unlike conventional

diesel electric drive systems there is

no risk of damage to the traction

motors under stall conditions, while

digging in the face. This allows the

operator to work quickly without the fear

of damaging the traction motors.

It all translates into faster response to

operator inputs and ultimately, greater

digging power.

Features that assure the Generation 2 Loader is the right machine for the mine

1. BucketsAll P&H LeTourneau-Series buckets are SAE rated, which means that the rated capacity and payload of the bucket can be achieved in accordance to SAE standards. Not all manufacturers follow this standard. The Generation 2 wheel loaders offer a wide variety of bucket sizes, types: (coal, rock or combo), lip configurations and GET options. This provides us with the ability to optimize a bucket to match your fleet for maximum production.

2. Frame and Lift ArmsThe frame structures are fabricated from high-strength, low-alloy steel with excellent weld characteristics and low temperature properties throughout. High strength castings are used in key areas of fabricated structures to reduce stress and improve structural life. The front axle is an integral, fixed part of the frame. The rear pivoting axle is designed to oscillate eleven degrees (11.0, 12.50 on the L-2350). The independent power module mounting system is cradled within the rear frame by a three-point isolation system.

3. KLENZ™ Air Filtration SystemKLENZ – the world’s most efficient and money-saving air filtration system in the wheel loader industry. This unique air filtration system cleanses, at 99.9% efficiency, all air to the engine, drive system and operators cab down to 0.3 micron particulates; resulting in extended time between filter replacement up to 15 times longer than conventional filtration systems.

4. Switched Reluctance (SR) Drive SystemThe SR Drive System is featured on all Generation 2 wheel loaders with independent wheel speed control at all four positions.Simple and reliable motors/generators that are extremely efficient and maintenance free. No brushes, no commutators, no copper windings on the rotor and no wear.

5. Ball & Socket JointsFor over 60 years P&H LeTourneau-Series wheel loaders have successfully utilized Ball and Socket joints for the Frame Articulation joints, Lift Arms attachment, Lower Hoist Cylinder support and Rear Axle oscillation pivot points. This long life and low maintenance attachment system is used exclusively on all LeTourneau-Series wheel loaders to absorb and distribute multidirectional stresses significantly better than traditional, higher maintenance, pin and clevis systems.

6. LINCS II™ Digital ControlsThis new and exclusive control and monitoring system provides the operator with simple, highly responsive and semi-automated control interface, facilitating the highest productivity with low operator fatigue. It manages all machine systems, including hydraulics, electrics, pneumatics, drive system and engine. LINCS II features a centrally located process automation controller that controls machine input/output directly or via CAN based network control. Various levels of entry into LINCS II are governed by a security key appropriate to job function.Maintenance personnel are also provided with an interactive off-line tool that provides unparalleled machine downloads for diagnostics.

7. P&H LeTourneau-Series Diesel Electric Drive Constant RPMIn addition to assured longer engine life and reduced fuel consumption; operating the engine at constant RPM also favorably impacts performance of the hydraulic pumps, which are directly driven at engine speed. Constant RPM always assures that full hydraulic flow is instantly available upon demand. Varying engine RPM on mechanical drive machines also negatively impacts the response of the hydraulic system. When the engine is operating at speeds less that the rated RPM, the pump will be rotating slower and thus reducing the flow to the hydraulic system. This detrimentally affects the optimum hoist and steering response time.

8. Power RegenerationA typical wheel loader loading cycle is ideal for lending itself to capitalizing on capturing regenerative power because of the slow speed operation with multiple braking occurrences during each loading cycle. Only electric drive affords itself to power regeneration and the Generation 2, SR drive, allows for one-hundred percent (100%) capture and utilization of all braking energy during the loading cycle.

9. BrakingFull Primary Braking is accomplished through the SR traction motor’s dynamic/regenerative braking system, which brings the loader to a complete stop without the requirement of secondary, air modulated traction motor speed disc brakes. The parking brake system is spring applied and air release traction motor speed disc brakes.

Operator Comfort:Joy Global knows the importance of the human element.

We understand that a high level of operator comfort equals higher productivity.

We demonstrate this dedication to ease of operation through a series of thoughtful

ergonomically designed cabin features in every Generation 2 loader.

The cab design features a 2-door ingress and egress, with a simplified dash

layout that includes a readily visible and easily readable LCD screen (even in the

brightest sunlight). The cab also features significant increases in Heating and Air

Conditioning capabilities for even greater comfort. P&H LeTourneau-Series wheel

loaders are the operator’s choice when it comes to comfort and productivity.

Elastomer-mounted, fully insulated enclosure

Generation 2 operator cabs are

independently elastomer-mounted

to the frame, isolating the operator from

vibration and noise transmission. The

insulated cabs provide temperature

protection and additional sound

dampening. All Generation 2 loaders meet

or exceed the ISO and SAE standards for

interior sound levels.

Eleven-way adjustable air ride seat

A generously appointed, adjustable

air suspension seat meets individual

preferences with eleven-way

adjustability. It is designed to

comfortably accommodate the

operator and incorporates a four point

retractable lap belt with shoulder

harness assembly. Engineered for

maximum shock absorption, this

design offers the operator fine-tuning of

lumbar support, cushion angle, fore-aft

positioning, and more.

Clearest forward and rear visibility

Generation 2 loaders also offer

unmatched visibility for operators, from

the tapered rear hood to the parabolic

rearview mirrors and optional rear view

video camera. Exceptional visibility allows

the operator to comfortably attack the

loading face and approach the haul truck

with speed, accuracy and consistency

with an increased measure of safety

Maximized air flow throughout

The cab’s superior, strategically placed

ventilation system provides ten (10)

outlets from which a steady supply of

double filtered air flows. The cab receives

pressurized filtered air from the KLENZ

system, which then passes through a final

cab-mounted air filter. The pressurization

is designed to keep particulates out even

under the dustiest conditions.

Automated climate control

Factory-fitted combination air-conditioning

and heating system maintains interior cab

comfort under the harshest conditions.

The Generation 2 operator’s cab utilizes

a FOPS mounted condenser with the

remainder of the unit in the cab for ease

of maintenance and accessibility.

Effortless joystick steering and bucket control

Perhaps most impressive is the

Generation 2 advanced joystick control

system featuring non-contact, hall-

effect technology that provides long life.

Ergonomically designed, the joysticks

LINCS II ™ Smart technology for smarter miningP&H’s LeTourneau Integrated Network

Control System (LINCS II), is designed

to help operators meet the challenges

of even the most demanding surface

mining applications.

The center, dash mounted, LINCS II

interactive touch screen display

provides instant, real-time feedback for

operators with a wealth of information

to adjust performance according to

conditions. Vital statistics includes

such items as bucket height and

angle, individual bucket payload,

cumulative truck loads, elapsed time

per loading cycle, and total tons

moved, available fuel, vehicle speed,

coolant temp etc. The easy-to-interpret

graphic format can be easily reconfigured

to meet personal preferences using

the touch screen display. In addition,

LINCS II assists the operator to avoid

inappropriate commands. For

example, should an attempt be made to

start a Generation 2 wheel loader with

the parking brake released, LINCS II will

not let this action happen, and will explain

why on the interactive data screen. This

enables the operator to take immediate

corrective action without confusion or

wasted effort.

The LINCS II system

speaks your language

LINCS II monitors and controls all loader

functions, and alerts the operator via

the touch display whenever attention

is required. LINCS II language interface,

with English being standard, is currently

offered as options in Chinese, French,

Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, and Turkish.

In addition to the alert text messages on

the display, there are two supplementary

warning lights adjacent to the touch

display providing notifications as shown:

RED indicates a condition requiring

immediate shutdown and correction,

accompanied by an audible alert and an

“alarm” message on the display.

AMBER indicates a less serious

condition requiring correction, but not

requiring an immediate shutdown. This

is accompanied by an audible alert

and a warning message on the display,

along with “what to do” instructions for

the operator.

An exclusive P&H LeTourneau-Series

design, precision-forged ball and socket

joints, are featured on every Generation

2 machine. This design absorbs and

distributes multidirectional stresses

better than conventional pin and

clevis systems, providing greater load-

bearing capacity and durability. Long

life is assured through our continuous

automatic lubrication system. Easily

replaceable socket liners and shims

make maintenance quick and simple.

Hydraulic Features

The hydraulic system employs variable

displacement axial piston pumps,

with flow and pressure compensation

for optimum performance, economical

operation, and high reliability. The

hydraulic pump gearbox is shaft-driven

and self-lubricating. The gearbox’s inline

filtration removes particulates down to

10 microns absolute, and a conservatively

pressurized lubrication delivery network

for the entire system promotes an

extended, trouble-free service life.

KLENZ System

It’s the world’s most efficient and

money-saving air filtration system for

giant machines, and Generation 2 wheel

loaders have it. KLENZ extends uptime

and cuts costs with a self-purging design

that can stretch filter life to 5,000

hours and beyond. It’s 99.9% effective in

removing particles as small as 0.3 microns

from the air used for engine intake,

cooling the loader’s electrical components

and pressurizing the operator’s cab.

Pressurized Axle Housings

P&H LeTourneau-Series pressurized

axle housings enhance reliability by

maintaining an air-cooled, dust-free

environment for the traction motors

and disc service brakes. The machine’s

electric drive eliminates the possibility of

downtime from axle components such

as differentials, universal joints, axles

and drive shafts found in mechanical

drive systems.

Easy-Access Maintenance
