PRINCIPAL’S NEWS
Dear Parents, The Relay for Life, which was a resounding success, was held at our school on the weekend. The event highlighted not only what a great facility we have as a school but what a wonderful community we are part of. Thanks must go to Rod Menzies, our General Assistant who was on the committee and Lynne Eke who organised our school staff team. We were very proud of our “Little Waangiys” team and Kurtis Laurie our Aboriginal Education Officer who organised this team and supervised them along with Mr Paul, Mrs O’Shea and Tania Shugg. This wonderful opportunity would not have been possible with the support of Mary Drum from Caperberry and Chris Douglas. Luke Douglas, one of our former students who plays for the Titans, kindly donated the football jerseys which were raffled. The students were very well behaved and were excited to have the opportunity to participate in such an important community event. We have some other community activities this week with Kinder and their Year 6 buddies off to the Yamba Fire Station today and many of our classes participating in Harmony Day activities on Thursday this week. Thank you to Mrs Edwards for coordinating the Harmony Day activities. We would like to remind parents about setting a good example when it comes to road safety. Our P&C worked long and hard to get a pedestrian crossing. Please, please use it. It might mean walking and extra five metres but surely it’s worth it to keep you and your child safe. There was a near miss last week just down from the crossing and apparently another one on Yamba Rd with children crossing the road unsupervised. When collecting your children, please be at the bus stop. It is a very dangerous practise to wait on the other side of the road and call them across as Stage One children don’t have enough peripheral vision to complete this challenging task. We want all of our students, and parents, to be safe. This issue also relates to the STAFF carpark which is NOT to be used by parents. Parent
parking is available to the south of the bus bay and also at the back of the school. There were lots of parents at out P&C meeting last Tuesday and we would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge all of their hard work. Last year the P&C donated almost $20000 to the school, without which the students would not have access to many resources such as ipads and their Reading Eggs subscription. The next fundraiser for the P&C will be a disco on Thursday 26th March and then an Easter egg raffles as part of the Hat Parade on Wednesday 1st April. Donations of eggs and baskets can be left at the canteen or front office.
We hope to see lots of Stage One parents at our Literacy information evening in the Library tonight, commencing at 6 pm.
Enjoy your week. Debbie Woods Relieving Principal

The Yamba Relay for Life Staff team showed great commitment on the weekend through
entering a team consisting of 11 members. It was a fantastic opportunity to raise money for a good cause - the N.S.W. Cancer Council. Almost
$75,000 was raised in total. There was some much needed rest taking place on Sunday as the batten changed hands all through the night. Well
done team!
What a great effort from our Aboriginal team who embraced the relay with great enthusiasm. Thank you to all those involved in the organisation, supervision and donations for our young team.
