The Ritchie Cup
We are pleased to announce that the recipient of the Ritchie Cup for 2015 is Dennis Cremer. Without active participants there would be no events and Dennis was proposed by Jimmy Steel as being an excellent and inspiring example of somebody who makes the SVVF involvement worthwhile.
He kindly offered the following as a very brief summary of his history and love of things mechanical. We think the enthusiasm is infectious ...
Just a few lines about my old car career. First motor event, Mother could always find me in the garage next door from the age of 4 years! The early events – 1961/62 – attended Kildrummy, Hawick, Berwick upon Tweed with a 1924 Alvis 12/50. Later 1960’s events included an all night run – Edinburgh Newcastle/Edinburgh. In fact most weekends were spent away from home, Including WW2 military vehicle rallies here and Europe. Also at this time we were “exercising” cars and motor bikes from Myreton Motor Museum by showing them at rallies. Since 1980, faithful JWS 50 has taken us to rallies from Shetland to Kent,Wales, and many parts of the UK. Memorable events: 1st at Glamis, 1st at Hawick, Being stuck on an Hebridean beach with a Bullnose Morris facing a rising tide, driving up to the Duke’s monument at Golspie. The Singer Le Mans which refused to go any distance from Edinburgh, the Alvis going aground on a bank in the Talisker Distillery etc etc.
Following on I must express my pleasure on meeting so many enthusiasts and friends during my time with old vehicles. Now, the SVVF who keep things in order have awarded me the Ritchie Cup for enjoying myself for over 50 years!
