MASSIVE CLEARANCE
ON NOW AT
TARNOWETSKI - Mrs. Helen Tarnowetski, beloved wife of the late Ted Tarnowetski passed peacefully after a brief illness on February 8, 2015 with her family at her side at the Yorkton District Nursing Home. She was 86 years of age. Helen was born at the family homestead, north of Tuff- nell, on May 20, 1928 and was the youngest of 3 children. She attend- ed school at the Echo Lake School division but remained on the family farm helping her parents until she was united in marriage to Ted Tar- nowetski on August 28, 1949 at the Sheho Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Together they farmed south of Tuffnell until 1960 when they moved to Tonkin because of Ted’s employment. In 1980 they transferred to Yorkton where they eventually retired. They were mar- ried for 62 years when Ted passed away in 2012. She had one daugh- ter, RoseAnn, born in Foam Lake and three grandchildren; Amanda (January 1982), Kris (January
1984) and Kaley (September 1987). Her grandchildren were the light of her life. She spent many hours with them making bread, Easter eggs and just having fun whether camping or just playing cards. Helen was an ex- cellent seamstress and had the opportunity to put her skills to use by sewing RoseAnn and her brother’s six children many little outfits. Later, she was employed by Glauser’s Drapery sewing beautiful drapes for their clients. Cross stitching, crocheting and knitting were among her favorite pastimes in the later years. She enjoyed the art of quilting and made sure that each grandchild had a special keepsake. She enjoyed gardening and took great pride in growing beautiful flowers. When a four-legged intruder started digging up the flowers, they set up a humane trap with the help of their friend Tony. They had quite a surprise when releasing this pest in the country and found out it was a skunk. She loved to bake bread and cinnamon buns, make perogies and noodles and more often than not, the living room became the “noodle drying” room. The two freezers were al- ways full of baking and her grandchildren would often stock up before leaving Yorkton. She enjoyed volunteering her time at the Ukrainian Or- thodox Auditorium making perogies and working bingos and banquets, which were more like social outings than work. She also belonged to the Ukrainian Orthodox Women’s Association and later on became one of the elder sisters. For nine years, she participated as a volunteer in the Annual Super Cities Walk for MS. Together, Ted and Helen enjoyed other ac- tivities such as watching curling, playing cards with friends and occasion- ally bowling with the members of the church. In their earlier years, they enjoyed many camping and fishing trips with family and friends and later when they had a motorhome, took their grandchildren on some of those adventures. Helen and Ted’s travels took them to places such as Hawaii, Alaska and throughout the US and Canada. Family was very important to Helen and even though the family gatherings were small, they were al- ways special. She loved when friends and family would stop by unexpect- ed and she would make a pot of tea and bring out some cookies before you could say you couldn’t stay long. She was predeceased by her sister, Rosie, her parents, Anton and Anne, her brother, William (Bill) and her husband Ted. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughter RoseAnn and son-in-law Brian and three grandchildren, Amanda and her husband Phillip, Kris and his wife Melanie and Kaley, sister-in-laws, Syl- via Anklewich and Pauline Magera, brother-in-law Walter Tarnowetski and numerous nieces and nephews and many dear friends. A Prayer Ser- vice was held on Thursday, February 12, 2015 and the Funeral Service on Friday, February 13, 2015, both services at Holy Transfiguration Ukrai- nian Orthodox Church in Yorkton with Very Rev. Father Mel Slashinsky officiating. The Responses were led by Zennovia Duch & Parish Choir Members. All of Helen’s Family and Friends were considered as honour- ary bearers. Members of the Ukrainian Women’s Association, Olena Pchilka Branch paid tribute in an honour guard. The interment followed in the Garden of Gethsemane at Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Kris Yanke (Grandson), Phil Matechuk (Grandson-in-law), Geraldine Arvay (Niece), Wayne Arvay (Nephew), Lorraine Arvay (Niece) and Al Arvay (Nephew) serving as the casket bearers. Memorial donations honouring Helen’s life may be made to Helen’s favourite charity, the Multiple Sclerosis Society or the Ukrainian Orthodox Church Renovation Fund. Condolences may be forwarded to the family by visiting www.baileysfuneralhome.com.

SPOKOWSKI - William James Spokowski, “Bill” as he was known to family and friends, was born on January 4, 1931, one of ten chil- dren, born to Nicholas and Kathe- rine (nee Fedun) Spokowski. He passed away peacefully with fami- ly at his side on February 10, 2015 at the age of 84 years. Bill married his sweetheart, Lois (nee Murphy) of the Eden district on December 22, 1956. They were blessed with six children, four boys and two girls. The family lived on the farm until moving into Yorkton in 1980. He continued to farm for many years after moving into Yorkton. Like his father, Bill’s passions were farming, carpentry, sports, hunting and fishing. In recent years, his fishing trips were a highlight of his life. He poured his heart and soul into his tasks, whether he was working with cattle, gardening, playing cards or building cup- boards. A skilled mechanic and carpenter, he did most of his own repairs and built many of the farm
buildings. Bill had a tender appreciation for God’s creation, often bringing small critters into the house to show young children, baby bunnies, birds or guiding friends and family to a newborn fawn he’d come across in the field. He had a special love for the children in his life and was known for his relentless teasing. Bill always had time for friends to visit or to lend a helping hand to a neighbour in need. Bill was predeceased by his par- ents, Nicholas and Katherine; his siblings, Steve, Mary, Ann, Frank, Joe, Fred and Josephine; his in-laws, Charles and Gertrude Murphy; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. He is survived by his loving and devot- ed wife, Lois and their six children, Darwin (Debra), Delmer, Dean (Co- lette), Ken (Lea), Rhonda (Randy) McCombs and Kim (Brad) Liebrecht. Also left to celebrate his life and cherish his memory are his 18 grandchil- dren and five great-grandchildren; his sisters, Corinne Hall and Jean (Leonard) Radons as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, good friends and neighbours. Bill’s practical advice, quick wit and sense of humour, his constant teasing and joy of life will be deeply missed by his family and his many friends. His life is celebrated and will be forever cher- ished through the light he has left in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. A Memorial Service was held on Friday, February 13, 2015 from the Chapel of Christie’s Funeral Home in Yorkton, SK with Reverend Jen Dresser (Minister at St. Andrew’s United Church) officiating. Special taped music selections included “Bridge Over Troubled Water” as sung by Willie Nelson, “In the Eyes of My People” by Mac Davis and “I Will Re- member You” by Sarah McLachlan. The Urn Bearer was Bill’s grandson, Kyle Liebrecht and all of the his grandchildren were considered to be Honourary Pallbearers. Friends so wishing may forward their condolenc- es to the family by visiting www.christiesfuneralhome.com. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Christie’s Funeral Home & Crematorium, Yorkton, Saskatchewan.
STEHR - Dave Stehr passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. He was 90 years of age. Dave was born on January 16, 1925 on the family farm in the Maple Creek District of Saskatche- wan to Ludwig and Augusta (nee Mehrer) Stehr. Dave lived and worked in several places over the course of his life and was re- nowned for his horsemanship and his love of animals. Dave listed in his memoirs his many cats, his Border Collies and out of all the horses he had owned he gave special mention to his “good” hors- es, “Wrangler”, “Kit” and “Magpie”. Dave served as a leader for 10 years of the 4H Light Horse Club and for 2 years of the Lady Lake Gymkhana Club. In his later years Dave discovered a love of danc- ing, an activity which he and Vicky enjoyed together until his recent ill- ness prevented him from taking part in it several months prior to his passing. Dave leaves to cele-
brate his life and remember him fondly his partner, Vicky Babichuk and her family; Dave’s six children, Garry, Joy (Wally), Bev (Bryan), Barney (Pirk), Keith (Sandra) and Donna (Bill); his 14 grandchildren; 16 great- grandchildren; and his two surviving sisters, Edna Seeley and Violet Yanke. He stated that his fondest memories of his lifetime were of the births of his children, he said, “I loved them all, without measure”. Dave felt fortunate to have lived a long, healthy and full life. He will be missed. The family wishes to especially thank the nurses who treated and cared for him and his family with kindness and respect until he passed away. According to Dave’s wishes, a private memorial service will be held at a later date. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kopan’s Funeral Ser- vice Highway #9 North, Yorkton, Saskatchewan. 306-783-0099 www.kopans.ca or on our Facebook page under Kopan’s Funeral Service.

Don Chupa I found a penny today Just laying on the ground,But it’s not just a pennyTh is little coin I’ve found.Found pennies come from heaven Th at’s what my Grandpa told me,He said Angels toss them down Oh, how I loved that story. He said when an Angel misses youTh ey toss a penny down,Sometimes just to cheer you upTo make a smile out of your frown. So don’t pass by that pennyWhen you’re feeling blue,It may be a penny from heavenTh at an Angel’s tossed to you.

A TOUCH OF GLAMOUR
A lofty tray ceiling in the great room lends the interior of this two-storey, three-bedroom family home a touch of glamour. In addition, there is room for expansion in the form of a finished den or home office at ground level, a future fourth bedroom and a roughed-in kitchen and three-piece bath for a mortgage-helper or in-law suite to be construct-ed later.
Wood pilasters with brick bases set off the covered entry into the foyer. Once inside, the L-shaped stairway to the
second floor is directly ahead, while on the left are a den and a coat cup-board.
Upstairs, the open-plan great room includes a gas fireplace that will cast its rosy glow as far as the dining area. Both rooms enjoy large win-dows that overlook the front garden.
In the kitchen, which is separated from the din-ing area by a eating bar and prep island, the dou-ble sink is angled into a corner with windows on both sides, allowing lots of natural light to stream into the room. The win-dow sill will serve as an ideal spot for plants. The L-shaped counter config-
uration will save steps for the busy cook, and a pantry will provide extra storage space.
The laundry room includes room for a countertop and in the adjacent corridor is a doorway to the covered patio at the back of the home.
The master suite, also overlooking the front garden, includes a roomy walk-in closet and a four-piece en-suite. A linen closet is tucked in near the doorway, handy to the laundry room.
The second and third bedrooms occupy space at the back of the house and share a three-piece bathroom. Both rooms
enjoy spacious closets.Downstairs, the den
or home office includes a closet, allowing it to double as a guest bed-room. The double garage is big enough to contain a workshop, and has access to the foyer.
The future fourth bed-room will have its own bathroom, roughed in on the plans along with a kitchen area for a pos-sible secondary suite.

Watch for fake CRA letters
Occasionally, taxpay-ers may receive, either by telephone, mail, or email, a communication that claims to be from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) but is not. In all these cases, the communication requests personal information, such as a social insur-ance, credit card, bank account, and passport numbers, from the tax-payer. These fraudulent communications are also referred to as scams or phishing.
Invariably, the com-munication argues that this personal informa-tion is needed so that the taxpayer can receive a refund or benefit pay-ment. Another common scam refers the person to a Web site resembling the CRA’s Web site where the person is asked to verify their identity by entering personal information. Taxpayers should not
respond to such fraudu-lent communications.
To better equip tax-payers to identify those communications that do not come from the CRA, the following general guidelines are provided.
The CRA does not do the following:
The CRA will not request personal infor-mation of any kind from a taxpayer by email.
The CRA will not divulge taxpayer infor-mation to another person unless formal authoriza-tion is provided by the taxpayer.
The CRA will not leave any personal infor-mation on an answering machine.
When in doubt, ask yourself the following:
Am I expecting addi-tional money from the CRA?
Does this sound too good to be true?
Is the requester ask-
ing for information I would not include with my tax return?
Is the requester asking for information I know the CRA already has on file for me?
How did the requester get my email address?
Am I confident I know who is asking for the information?
The CRA will con-tinue to post notifications of fraudulent communi-cations as we become aware of them and encourages you to check our Web site should you have concerns.
ExamplesYou will find examples
of a fraudulent letter, emails, and online refund forms on the CRA’s Web site. As per telephone calls, the CRA will occa-sionally leave messages for taxpayers on their answering machines. In these cases, a callback number will be provided along with a request to have the taxpayer’s SIN available upon callback. However, it is import-ant to note that not all telephone messages pur-porting to be from the CRA are genuine. Should taxpayers wish to verify the authenticity of a CRA telephone number, they should contact the CRA directly by using the num-bers on our Telephone numbers page. For busi-ness-related calls, con-tact 1-800-959-5525 and for individual concerns, contact 1-800-959-8281.
If you have responded to a fraudulent com-munication and have become a victim of fraud, please contact the Royal Canadian Mounted Police’s Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre by email at [email protected] or call 1-888-495-8501.
