“A lot of people think framing is not so impor tant. But at PINKGUY, my customer s and I do bel ieve that framing is the most impor tant thing for Fine Ar t.”

— WinSon Loh

As a youth, WinSon Loh always felt a strong attract ion towards the creative ar ts. He was born in 1968 into an average Malaysian family, and his father owned a fur niture wor kshop in Salak South, Kuala Lumpur. His father’s profession in the creation of fur niture c lear ly left a last ing impression and passed on an enthusiasm for craftsmanship, innovation and ar t istr y in craft even though at the tender age of 1, WinSon lost his father to armed criminals. This shocking event led to a t ime of hardship and miser y for his family and a dif f icult chi ldhood. As an impoverished youngster, WinSon wor ked hard at school and out of i t to earn money to contr ibute to his education and l iv ing expenses. In spite of his misfor tunate circumstances WinSon st i l l managed to excel in primar y and secondar y school.

In school, WinSon found that he had an ar t ist ic bent himself and par t ic ipated in charity ar t exhibit ions. This involvement in ar t shows made him aware of the signif icant role of framing in the f inishing of ar t pieces. Whi le other parents framed their chi ld’s wor ks, WinSon was the only budding ar t ist par t ic ipating that could not af ford to do so. It was at this t ime that he made a promise to himself. He became determined that one day he would be able to craft his own unique frames. At 15 year s of age WinSon quit school and star ted as a frame-making apprentice, beginning his journey in ful f i l l ing his l i felong ambit ion to excel in his chosen profession. This period of learning and hard wor k gave WinSon the ski l ls and the knowledge that al lowed him to succeed and develop his own exceptional and dist inct ive frames that pair his own per sonal style and f lair with methods of conser vation. Through countless experiments and discoveries, WinSon managed to form and invent his own methodologies in conser vation framing. WinSon star ted frame production in 1996 with a 2 par tner ship company but in 2007 created his own unique brand–PINKGUY Malaysia Ar t & Frame.

At present, WinSon is the exper t in frame-making in Malaysia. He has always done things his own way and is an ar t ist in his own right. His point of view on conser ving wor ks of ar t whether it be a high value investment or a per sonal piece that has sentimental value is par t of what makes WinSon so unique. Accentuating the beauty of an ar t piece, as wel l as preser ving it is his major object ive and is something that he is ver y passionate about. His outlook and commitment to creativ ity, f ine ar ts and frame-making has made his brand PINKGUY a label that is synonymous with qual ity, customer ser vice and ar t istr y. He is famous for his signature wor k–an innovative and sophist icated frame that incorporates an elegant diamond feature and is the only frame-maker today that has a signature frame sett ing him and his ar t isanal pract ice apar t. His advanced approach, alongside the inimitable energy and per sonal style that he brings to his craft has also led to him now being establ ished as Malaysia’s most preeminent framer, and is refer red to by most as “Malaysia’s Most Revolut ionar y Frame-maker.”

WinSon established his PINKGUY brand in 2007 and began his career with the reframing of col lector goods, emphasising the impor tance of safety for ar t to his c l ients. The PINKGUY phi losophy is to create safe and protect ive framing environments to preser ve and even increase the l i fe and enjoyment of col lected pieces. He has drawn much attention for his ef fect iveness in providing long last ing protect ion for col lector investments, as his methods al low for the ful l value of an ar t piece to be retained. The aesthetic benefits of styl ish framing are not forgotten and is also emphasised as another cr ucial feature that can fur ther enhance the appearance whi le also adding value to a f ine piece of ar t. The result of a PINKGUY frame is protect ion and a visual ly captivat ing, complete masterpiece.

Each frame from PINKGUY is an innovation and tai lored to suit each unique col lect ion. Materials, colour and texture are al l considered in order to bring out the best in the ar twor k and also to match per sonal decor and tastes. The aesthetic benefits of this are two-fold. On one hand, this framed piece is something that is l ived with, so the look and feel of i t must have strong appeal that lasts a l i fet ime. On the other hand, the frame must be the ar t wor ks counterpar t as a f inal f inishing. With visual ar t, the over al l aesthetic is always cr ucial .

From the star t of his career, WinSon’s pract ice has involved exceptional commitment and spir it to creativ ity and wor kmanship. Whi le many do not bel ieve that framing is not impor tant, WinSon’s own per sonal bel ief is that framing is the most impor tant element in f inishing a piece of ar t. His convict ion in this idea permeates ever y aspect of PINKGUY ser vices and has led to the highest standard in framing techniques and a dist inct ive style that is immediately recognisable. I t is the per sonal touches in the fr aming and in the treatment of patrons that makes gett ing a custom frame made at PINKGUY a real experience. WinSon handles ever y piece of wor k per sonal ly, insist ing in incorporating his unique brand of creativ ity and feel, showing individual caring to achieve ult imate satisfact ion. His strong views and integrity mean that he does not go against his bel iefs, sometimes refusing customer s ideas for framing. When this happens it is because he has a ver y strong opinion in what is best for the ar t.

Any col lector wi l l know that in auction scenarios, the condit ion of the wor k as wel l as the visual impact the paint ing has together with its frame can sway those that are eager to acquire the ar twork. Therefore, a good stylish frame with added preser vative qual it ies increases the value of the ar t. To look at before and after images of paint ings reframed by PINKGUY, i t is obvious that the framing does indeed bring out a paint ings better qual it ies, ampl i fy ing an ar twor ks strengths and beauty. PINKGUY’s s ignature fr ames that incor porate “frame-less” fr aming and “boxy” fr aming are cutt ing-edge and original as wel l as preser vative, and has proven to be a big draw for col lector s.

“ I have to apologise for the t imes I have made customer s unhappy. Sometimes I refuse what customer s want because I have my own strong opinion. I am stupid because I don’t al low myself to go against my opinion. But, col lector s must feel safe buying ar t and frame’s from PINKGUY. It is because I care and I want them to feel complete satisfact ion.”

Things to consider when Framing Ar t

Why should you consider a custom frame?

P I N K G U Y F R A M I N G

“It is better to be safe than be sor r y. I f you have a priceless piece, i t ’s better to protect i t with good qual ity products as this wi l l keep it with you forever.”

— WinSon Loh

It was just recently that WinSon bought a paint ing in auction by Chia Hoy Sai, the “sifu” of ar t ists Cheng Thak Lui and Kow Leong Kiang. A beauti ful paint ing featuring a Malaysian dancer, WinSon sat quite far during the auction and did not real ize that the paint ing was actual ly one that he had framed around 12 year s ago! When receiving the paint ing he was surprised to recognise his own style and method of framing. From this piece he could see that his frame could stand the test of t ime aesthetical ly as wel l as in the aspect of conser vation. The paint ing and its’ frame is st i l l in ver y good condit ion and the look and feel of the frame was not outdated – It looks good and cur rent, and enhances the ar t wor k it frames. This moment was a grati fy ing one for WinSon, as it proved to him without a doubt that his bel iefs and his tenacity in st icking to his ideals real ly does make a dif ference.

In designing the style of a frame, PINKGUY str ives to create a continuation of the ‘message’ of the ar t piece or in other words attempt to produce a frame that is an extension of the ar t rather than a separate entity. I t is one of PINKGUY’s dist inct ive abi l i t ies to inject the mood of the paint ing into the frame. Individual wor ks are brought al ive by di f ferent designs of the frame. The choice of materials l ike fabric or texti les for the frame usually depends on the works of ar t. Each frame is unique in itself, just l ike a f ine ar t piece.

When it comes to f iguring out how to match a frame to ar twor k, WinSon is convinced that there are no set r ules. There is always a way to channel the wor ks character into the frame. The question is how does WinSon do it? It is through his vast experience and his sensit iv ity to the ar t that al lows him to come up with his masterpieces. One of the guiding factor s to his designs involves select ing colour s in the paint ings that can provide a good contrast and using them in his frames. What he chooses can enhance either the main colour s of the paint ings, or emphasise and bring out the more subtle colour s within the ar t. To WinSon it al l depends on what atmosphere or feel ings an ar t wor k gives to a per son.

Conservation framing–protecting your ar t & investment

Attention to detail and sharing

Backing

The most impor tant exter nal material is the backing. With the r ight backing, humidity from the outside environment can be prevented from entering the frame and damaging the ar t wor k. The protect ive qual ity of PINKGUY’s backing is proven. Proof of how it wor ks was shown on an occasion where a removal of a PINKGUY framed ar t wor k showed a humidity mar k on the wal l . This was months after instal lat ion. With any other framing, this humidity would f ir st be absorbed by the frame, only spi l l ing onto the wal l when no more can be retained by the frame.

Mounting

Mounting with the conser vation of the ar twor k in mind is one of the essential par ts of PINKGUY framing solut ions. It is also one of the toughest matter s in conser vation framing. The mount board comes in direct contact with the ar t wor k which is why the choice of board is so cr ucial in protect ing your framed wor ks. Only the 100% sol id core cotton museum qual ity rag mat board is used. There are a variety of museum qual ity rag mat boards designed to absorb acid from both ar t and environment and this material is proven to stay stable over hundreds of year s.

Mounting requires experience and ski l l , and the process shows the qual ity of care given to an ar t piece. I f done in the r ight way, i t is possible for the original wor k to be removed from the old frame and st i l l be in its init ial state. Only in this manner can one real ly preser ve the ar t wor k and it ’s value.

In fact, at PINKGUY paper pieces are sandwiched between 2 museum qual ity rag mat boards so that no destr uct ive adhesives or tapes can come into contact with the Ar t. This sandwiching technique is WinSon’s own invention, an idea that came about in his desire to keep any harmful materials away from an ar twor k.

Glazing

Glazing is also determined by specif ic ar t mediums. For paper, the glass or plexiglass is mounted away from the ar t wor k al lowing for air circulat ion within the framewor k. This technique el iminates any possible damage that can be caused by moisture, smoke, acidic fumes and other condit ions that are a threat to ar twor ks. PINKGUY prefer s glass instead of plexiglass to cover an ar twor k as glass can have a more l ively ef fect on a piece of ar t. Glass is also f latter in comparison to plexiglass as wel l as c learer. Plexiglass does have its’ advantages, inc luding it being less fragi le making it suitable when an ar twor k is to be moved around. Non-glare glass is also avai lable and is used for showing texture-l ike ef fects. This glass is used especial ly for reducing ref lect ions i f the ar twor ks’ environment has too many l ights.

Other t ips that can keep your wor ks in good condit ion inc lude; opening up and examining the ar t wor k ever y 5 year s or so to check the condit ion of i t , c leaning your frames regular ly as dust can contain airborne mould spores, never spray c leaning solut ion direct ly onto surface of the glass as there is potential that these l iquids can r un into the frame and stain the mat or cause elevations of humidity inside the frame. Applying c leaner to c loth is advisable. Using two hooks provides better suppor t when hanging the piece and wi l l keep your frame intact with less danger of i t potential ly fal l ing, and last but not least, for paper wor k framing PINKGUY advice is to only hang it on an inter nal environment wal l , keeping it away from direct sunl ight.

When stacking ar twor ks, always face them against each other (frame to frame, back to back) to avoid damaging any surfaces. In case you forget this r ule of stacking, ever y PINKGUY frame has round foam protector s to cover the picture hanger to avoid scratches.

There are always chal lenges in reframing a wor k of ar t, especial ly those that were created or framed in the past. I t is recommended that ar t should be framed using conser vation techniques from the ver y beginning as it is more costly and dangerous to consider ways to preser ve a wor k that is already framed using non-conser vative methods. WinSon Loh bel ieves in the impor tance of a good star t. For col lector s and aspir ing col lector s and even the ar t ists, the frame in WinSon’s opinion is what can give you this auspicious star t. Badly framed wor ks wi l l need future restoration ef for ts and this is even more costly than spending on the preventative measure of good framing. It is always preferable to have a wor k of ar t in i ts original condit ion rather than it be a restored ver sion. Al l things considered, framing is something that is absolutely essential for the protect ion of ar twor ks and can add an extra dimension to the piece aesthetical ly. With ever y piece, PINKGUY employs a thorough process of identi fy ing the needs of each individual ar t wor k and catering to its needs, creating frames that are superior qual ity, conser vative as wel l as aesthetical ly pleasing. Although PINKGUY tr ies to ensure that al l ar t pieces have long-last ing protection, there are many outside factor s that can ef fect the “l i fe” of a wor k. What material an ar t ist uses is one factor – if the ar t is not on acid free museum qual ity paper then it wi l l st i l l be prone to fungus and other damage. The environment the piece is kept in is also impor tant to consider. Direct sunl ight, heat and humidity can al l contr ibute to possible damage.

The workmanship in all the frames made at PINKGUY surpass expectat ions t ime after t ime. Although the framing is made with conser vat ion as i t ’s most impor tant qual ity, there is also at i t ’s core a wealth of emotion. There is the idea that the framed piece is not just an investment, but something that promotes sharing and feel ing between people. I t is an object that is meant to be enjoyed – when an ar t piece or a prized item is framed with a PINKGUY frame it becomes something more, i t transforms into a special gi ft ful l of meaning.

Conser vation framing is absolutely essential when it comes to f ine ar t or investment pieces. In these cases a few things that PINKGUY takes into consideration are; what the ar twor k consists of, and what is the most suitable method to preser ve it?

11

10

In the 30 year s of framing many milestones have been reached, and there have been many highs and lows as is expected in the journey to achieving this level of master y. I t is through mistakes and experience that WinSon Loh has managed to improve and extend his exper t ise. There are two incidents in par t icular that had great impact on WinSon, and has stayed in his memor y as an example of how one must progress and learn from one’s mistakes. These are incidents that have given him better insight, al lowing him to ref ine his ser vices. It is WinSon’s bel ief that his customer s must have the best possible ser vice and the confidence to send their valuables to his place of business. It is in these stories that one can see his honesty and his passion in providing his best ef for ts to his c l ients.

What could he do?

The Lost Map

I t al l star ted the day 4 antique maps were brought to PINKGUY for framing. With many wor ks coming in to be framed, one of these maps was unfor tunately misplaced. This was a nightmare situation, and one that WinSon unquestionably never wanted to be in. Sleepless nights ensued where tossing and tur ning, a distressed WinSon contemplated tel l ing his c l ient what had happened, whi le possible consequences such as losing a valued customer haunted him.

In the t ime between being given the maps, and the date of del iver y, WinSon scoured the inter net for a few days looking for antique maps that could perhaps replace the lost i tem. Antique maps were found in abundance but many did not match the map entr usted to his care. After these few days of searching, one similar map was found, but i t st i l l did not completely match the original. WinSon bought it regardless as it was the c losest to the original that he could f ind and he set to wor k framing it , attempting to make it as c lose to the original piece as possible.

Despite having gone through all this ef for t, WinSon st i l l felt tormented over what had happened. He st i l l had on his mind the question of what to do? come c lean or wait to see i f the c l ient notices his mistake? It is standard procedure at PINKGUY for customer s to pay upfront for their framing, so ever ything had been paid for. I t was a wretched situation, but in the end WinSon’s honesty won out over his gui lt and fear.

This involved improving the colour, which WinSon did himself, paint ing it so that i t was as c lose to the map he was given.

13

12

The day of del iver y ar r ived. Al l maps were framed inc luding the new piece and so, WinSon cal led in his c l ient to take them back. To WinSon’s surprise, the c l ient did not seem to notice that one map was not what he had original ly sent in! He was evidently del ighted to see his maps framed in style and in the appropriate preser vative method. It was now that WinSon decided to admit his gui lt . He presented to his customer an envelope. Inside it was the ful l payment for framing al l 4 of the maps. He explained that something unfor tunate had happened, and how remor seful he was that i t had happened at al l . So now he was giving back the payment as reparation for the mistake that he had made. He even of fered to pay back his c l ient for the lost map in addit ion to not accepting payment for the whole lot! Surprised, the c l ient announced that he would never have known that this map was not the original piece i f WinSon had not informed him of i t . He was uncommonly forgiving, and surely saw WinSon’s regret and the extreme ef for t that WinSon had gone through in order to cor rect his mistake. In the end he accepted the new map and the other three that were framed for him.

This experience demonstrated to WinSon the impor tance of having forgiving c l ients and creating good customer relat ions. He remember s vividly the anguish and wor r y he felt on real is ing the loss of the piece, and needless to say wishes it to never happen again. Par t of his pract ice today, is to to photograph ever y piece that is passed on for framing and is now even more careful of handl ing and placing the wor ks. Although there have been mistakes in the past, and possible accidents in the future, one can always be cer tain that PINKGUY wi l l go the distance in endeavouring to rect i fy any problems, as wel l as learn from them.

The message here is that whi le there are always r isks in sending valuables for framing, PINKGUY wi l l always do their best to make improvements year after year and does their best to make their customer s feel that their wor ks are in a safe place.

The Red Dot

I t was 2012 at the exhibit ion for Lum Weng Kong’s exhibit ion “Aura.” The f ir st t ime that PINKGUY wi l l have held a solo exhibit ion of Chinese paint ings on r ice paper. The opening was an event to remember! A packed night with the ambassador of the republ ic of China to Malaysia, H. E. Chai Xi of f ic iat ing and unvei l ing the exhibit ion, the gal ler y was ful l and buzzing with excitement. Paint ing after paint ing were sold throughout the night and it was in the sel l ing of these paint ings that a mistake was made.

At this exhibit ion, there was a couple who were attending a PINKGUY showcase for the ver y f ir st t ime. A piece t i t led “In the Woods,” happened to catch their eye so they asked WinSon, how do they buy this piece? Those that have been to PINKGUY for an exhibit ion opening before 2012 should know the procedure. WinSon would be making sales, whi le Pol ly would be holding the red dot that indicates a paint ing is sold. So WinSon made the sale, tel l ing this couple that i t was ver y simple! Just pay him and they could be the proud owner s of this paint ing. So they passed their credit card to WinSon and it was done. But, WinSon did not know that one of his regular customer s was also interested in the same paint ing! Knowing the procedure and that Pol ly was handl ing the red dots, he went straight to Pol ly and told her to dot the paint ing for him.

L E A R N I N G F R O M M I S T A K E S

Only in that moment, WinSon and Pol ly real ised they had a problem. “In the Woods,” had two owner s! WinSon puzzled over what he could do in this dif f icult situation. He did not want to lose new customer s, but he could not disappoint his regular customer either. After much del iberation WinSon decided that he must give it to his regular c l ient as he has establ ished a strong relat ionship with al l his returning customer s. So WinSon returned the money on the spot to the couple who were, as expected, ver y unhappy over the situation. This did not sit wel l with WinSon either and so he set his mind to f iguring out how to make the situation better.

In the end, WinSon had an idea. He asked the ar t ist to paint a piece with the same feel as “In the Woods” but smaller in size. Once the paint ing was done, WinSon made a custom frame for i t and presented it to the couple. Of cour se it was a big surprise as this special of fering was completely unexpected, and the couple were ver y happy with this replacement paint ing. A lovely gesture from WinSon, i t shows how seriously he takes the satisfact ion of not only his regular customer s but potential ones as wel l .

WinSon also learned an impor tant lesson from this incident – Dot f ir st, and pay later! Through this mistake, WinSon ref ined his procedure for buying wor ks at his exhibit ion openings. A new tradit ion was born! Cl ients are now given numbered red dots so that they can dot the paintings themselves, avoiding confusion and making the buying of ar t at PINKGUY a fair experience with equal oppor tunity among all .

In a l i fe t ime of framing there are many distinctive unusual and sometimes emotional moments to be remembered. As passion is such a major aspect in what dr ives WinSon, so is the creat ion of ever last ing relat ionships with his customer s. It is not just the special creative and conser vative elements of his framing that create a wonderful experience, but also the bonding that one undergoes in the process.

Bought from a museum in the United Kingdom, this more than 150 year old patent cer tif icate came to PINKGUY after careful consideration by it’s owner. At f ir st looking for a conser vation framer in UK, he decided to tr y looking for a framer in Malaysia where he l ives. The search for an appropriate framer began and after searching high and low for the right one, PINKGUY was discovered. At their f ir st meeting, this new customer described and showed WinSon a photo of the method that the museum in the UK recommended. Shocked and surprised, WinSon informed his c l ient that it was good that he had decided to come to PINKGUY as that method was not 100% conser vat ion framing. WinSon then proceeded to outl ine the r ight method of conser vation for the piece, and his ideas for what sty le of fr aming would best suit the cer t i f icate.

In the end, 4 antique cer t i f icates were given to PINKGUY for framing by this col lector. One of these pieces is in this publ icat ion, “Diamonds are Forever.” It ut i l ises PINKGUY 3D framing which al lows easy access to the piece i f need be, and is a method that is usual ly chosen for objects that are not f lat. There is a double frame which accentuates the colour s of the cer t i f icate inside. The outer frame is simple and done in a dar k walnut that mir ror s the font and decorative features of the cer t i f icate. The inner frame has a few levels which adds detai l , texture and decoration in si lver colouring, a complement for the walnut. Al l these elements of the frame bring out the c lassic style of the cer t i f icate which has del icate f loral embell ishments alongside the vintage typography, whi le also becoming an extension of the piece through the matching colour scheme.

The 150 Year Old Patent Cer tificate

This is a piece that is memorable for WinSon, because of the relat ionship that evolved from the f ir st i tem to be framed, to a tr ust that led to more antiques for PINKGUY to frame. It is his biggest pleasure to know that he could del iver the best in conser vation framing, and make his c l ient happy with the overal l look and feel.

As with al l stories of people searching for a conser vation framer in Malaysia, i t was after extensive “hunting” for the r ight framer that PINKGUY was found. The customer was an expatriate woman from Nether lands looking to have her wedding gown framed. She went to PINKGUY with her mother to discuss the framing and she had a special request, that when the laying out of the wedding gown was to be done, she would l ike to be present. As this piece was obviously of high sentimental value, WinSon could not deny her and was pleased that she wanted to be there in the process of framing the gown.

The Wedding Gown

Time passed and when the frame was ready and wait ing for the gown to be attached, WinSon cal led and inform her that she could come in and assist in the lay out. Unfor tunately, she informed WinSon that she could not come at that moment because her mother had just passed away. This was an emotional moment and WinSon could not help but empathise. He remembered that when she and her mother f ir st came to PINKGUY, he had taken a picture of them both in his shop. He found the photograph in his records and went to wor k framing it . When the t ime f inal ly came to lay out the wedding gown with his c l ient, he presented this special ly framed photograph. It was an incredibly poignant moment that they shared, and both shed tear s as emotion over took them. The frame is perfect ly suited for the gown it was made for.

M O M E N T S T O R E M E M B E R

The frame is perfect ly suited for the wedding gown it was made for. The wedding gown is of f white and metal l ic gold in colour, and simple in it ’s l ines. The frame complements the wedding gown in colour and is a warm gold tone, and quite detai led in it ’s decoration. This detai l contrasts with the simplic ity of the wedding gown, whi le also managing to conjure the memor y and celebrator y feel of the momentous occasion. This framing of a wedding gown wi l l forever stay in WinSon’s memor y as one that involved a lot of emotion. It is a stor y which shows the softer side to him, and i l lustrates his abi l i ty to empathise and under stand the emotional wor th of i tems that have high sentimental value. It also shows how he goes the extra mile for those customer s that are lucky enough to reach this par t of his character.

PINKGUY displays a dist inct “uniqueness” in their openings which are in a way, ver y ceremonious. It is a l i teral opening ever y t ime at the gal ler y when there

are new wor ks to be shown. As the ar t is put up, ever y piece is covered and only revealed at the opening. This method provides drama to ever y exhibit ion, heightening the antic ipation to see what new wor ks the gal ler y has on show. It also al lows col lector s equal oppor tunity on the day of the opening as there are no previews to see or purchase the wor k. Whi le this means that there is a fair chance for al l to buy a piece, a quick decision is essential as indecisiveness may mean losing out on acquir ing a wor k. This new experience of viewing and buying ar t devised by WinSon cer tainly makes the bought piece and the moment of buying it , a memorable one.

The promotion and encouragement for local ar t ists is under taken by characterist ic PINKGUY enthusiasm and excel lence in concept. PINKGUY’s aim is to ful ly suppor t and give chosen Malaysian ar t ists the oppor tunity to show their unique wor ks, with an advantageous beginning. The framing is a large par t in providing this good star t as it means that al l their wor ks shown at PINKGUY have the benefit of conser vation frames, adding value to their wor k from the star t ing point. The per sonal assistance and guidance given to each ar t ist from WinSon is also an added benefit for them, encouraging them to be better and improve with ever y showing.

F I N E A R T & P I N K G U Y

While framing at PINKGUY is treated as an ar t form in itself, another side to the PINKGUY brand involves the exhibit ing and suppor t ing of Malaysian ar t. Just as there are many dif ferences between PINKGUY framing and normal framer s, PINKGUY as a gal ler y does their best to set themselves apar t. The passion and integrity with which WinSon Loh approaches his framing, is also appl ied to his display of Malaysian f ine ar t. This fer vent passion for al l aspects of his profession is what drives his pract ice and creates a refreshing experience for his customer s. It is also WinSon’s own ar t ist ic talents that al low him to be discerning in the select ion of ar t ists that the gal ler y suppor ts and promotes. His tastes and spir it can be seen in the ar t of those he displays, adding to the dist inct ive PINKGUY experience.

The phi losophy behind WinSon’s framing ser vice is a major suppor t ing element for his exhibit ions. This is one of the key features that makes PINKGUY’s showcases especial ly dist inct ive. Ever y ar t ist that is exhibited at the gal ler y is given the special ser vice of having custom frames designed and bui lt for al l their ar t pieces.

I t is a fact that WinSon cares about the ar t ists that he exhibits and their progression and he expresses this through the forging of strong relationships and giving their paintings frames that magnify i ts’ dist inct ive feel.

As each frame is made not only to enhance and protect but to also ref lect the par t icular mood of each individual masterpiece, ever y single piece of ar t that is displayed at PINKGUY is a whole and complete creation. They have added benefic ial qual it ies such as being long last ing, and having a qual ity f inishing tai lored to match the specif ic aesthetic attr ibutes of the wor k.

The dif ferences in approach do not stop there.

The framing business it seems is ful l of constant surprises. It has al lowed WinSon to meet many dif ferent character s and handle many dif ferent types of ar t, and it is always the surprises that are especial ly memorable.

It has been WinSon’s experience that from t ime to t ime customer s wi l l come to him with old paint ings for reframing, and he would be astonished to f ind 2 paint ings in one frame! WinSon can only theorise that in ear l ier t imes many people would l ike to “recyc le” their fr ames, layer ing one over the other. A few t imes, he found that these over lapped paint ings that had been brought to him contained a fa ir ly valuable piece of ar t – usual ly the one underneath! On these occasions WinSon would take the paint ings and make conser vation frames for both. He would then proudly present the two framed pieces to his unsuspecting c l ients!

When it comes to customer relat ions and bui lding last ing relat ionships, one can see how fundamental good ser vice is to PINKGUY and WinSon. Always hear tfelt in giving c l ients his incredible ef for t and passion, WinSon can be seen to always go the extra mile with absolute sincerity and enthusiasm.

This moment is one that WinSon has been wor king towards for a long t ime. The t it le of this exhibit ion was impor tant to him and was careful ly considered, and although he l iked the sound of “Diamonds are Forever,” he was st i l l unsure about whether he should use it . WinSon’s navigation through his business of framing has always been guided by his faith and “feel.” It was just ear l ier this year that his faith rewarded him with a sign that this was the perfect t i t le he could use. Besides having his own gal ler y and exhibit ing ar t, WinSon st i l l goes to other gal ler ies and is a patron to a few. It was on one day visit ing Richard Koh Fine Ar t that he was shown a paint ing with the t i t le “Diamonds are Forever.” He was f ir st ly impressed with the ar t ists’ passion and show of patience, as the paint ing is made up of many dif ferent stamps stuck together to create the image. It also holds symbolic value for WinSon because the image is of a styl ised “1 Malaysia” logo, with a si lhouette of a man giving a woman a diamond ring. The number 1 signif ies as a reminder for WinSon to keep going and keep reaching for high goals l ike being a leader in his industr y. The number “1” also has fur ther meaning – in mandarin it is “Ee Hao” and this is his youngest son’s name. With conser vation framing this paint ing would be perfect for passing on to the next generation in his family. The image of the couple inside is a motivator for WinSon, that maybe one day he wi l l be able to give his wife a large diamond ring. Lastly, the t i t le swayed WinSon to buy the piece as wel l as t i t le the exhibit ion with the same name.

ION “Diamonds are Forever” is a ver y per sonal

exhibit ion. For WinSon it has deep meaning and sentimental value and is a signif icant event for him as this mar ks the achievement of many of his goals. I t is also a show of his favourite ar t wor ks and frames that he has wor ked on over the last 30 year s. These masterpieces are also ones with which he has formed a genuine attachment. In exhibit ing these dif ferent ar t ists and bringing attention to their creativ ity, this display also highl ights WinSon’s own creativ ity, passion and unique contributions in the conser vation of Malaysian ar t. I t is a look at the PINKGUY ‘col lect ion’ of framing throughout 30 year s, with each piece reveal ing the original i ty and masterful techniques employed, not to mention the aesthetic beauty it involves. This is especial ly highl ighted in the signature frame that features a diamond as it ’s trademar k. Not just a visual show, the exhibit ion and this accompanying publ icat ion is educational, an ef for t to increase awareness in the impor tance of framing, preser vation and it ’s aesthetic role as wel l as an under standing for the innovative PINKGUY process. “Diamonds are Forever” is an exhibit ion that is devoted exc lusively to the special and essential relat ionship between frame and ar t wor k.

It is WinSon’s opinion that photography can now be accepted as f ine ar t and it is his way of showing this bel ief alongside his gratitude towards the ar t ist who is a good fr iend and a suppor ter of PINKGUY framing.

A black and white por trait of WinSon Loh, the exhibit of this piece is a way of saying thank you to Soraya for the photograph as wel l as for the fact that this image has made PINKGUY and WinSon Loh recognisable, becoming a trademar k image for the gal ler y and per son.

There are a number of signif icant pieces in “Diamonds are Forever.” “FREE LAND” by Tew Nai Tong (pg. 41), this masterpiece was exhibited and printed in his last ar t book for his exhibit ion “Glories” and is shown in this exhibit ion as a tr ibute to the late master. One other piece that wi l l be on show that is especial ly meaningful for PINKGUY is a photograph by Soraya Yusof Tal ismail .

A paint ing from the Pago-Pago Series by Abdul Lati f f Mohidin is in this special exhibit and is framed in a par t icular ly interesting way. Handed over to WinSon by Zain Azahari for reframing, WinSon remembers being struck by it’s contemporar y feel. Painted in 1968, the same year that he was born, WinSon felt that this paint ing shows the ar t ists talent and how he was ahead of his t ime. To WinSon, i t was amazing to see an old paint ing that has such a cur rent aesthetic. Impressed so much by this ar t ists ski l l and foresight, WinSon set to creating an exceptional frame to match. To f inish this ar t work WinSon made a modern double frame. The outer frame is made out of black leather whi le the inner frame is a blue hue with thin gold edges heightening the intensity of the l ighter blues in the paint ing.

Another ver y special frame is done for a Chang Fee Ming piece. This ar t wor k appealed to WinSon because of his penchant for wor ks that convey a message or stor y. Painted from the chest down, with the mosque and river in the background, blue hues dominate the piece in the sky and in the c lothing with the sarong being par t icular ly eye-catching. WinSon designed the frame to match this sarong and searched for two days for just the r ight fabric to be the paint ings counterpar t. After the intensive search and the discover y of one that was r ight, WinSon stretched the fabric over a sol id wood frame and completed the paint ing using conser vation framing. This fabric frame is not too wide and designed so that i t does not overpower the piece. Wor ried that this may happen, i t was a great rel ief for WinSon once it was done, as one can c lear ly see that i t is perfect in accentuating and bringing out the paintings colours and textures.

There are a variety of things that have attracted WinSon to the paint ings in “Diamonds are Forever.” One by Dato Chuah Thean Teng is a memorable one for WinSon as a paint ing that caught his eye in a Henr y Butcher auction. The piece charmed WinSon through it ’s i l lusor y qual ity. From far, WinSon could only see a chi ld reaching for a sunf lower, but on c loser viewing he noticed that there was also another f igure bent over and tending to the dir t sur rounding the f lower. As WinSon had inspected this piece of ar t for Henr y Butcher he also knew that i t was in ver y good condit ion. Unfor tunately, he was not the only one that wanted to bid on the piece. It so happened that a couple that WinSon knew and is c lose with, also wanted to acquire it . In the end he let his friends bid on this batik painting and they brought it to WinSon for reframing. Brown green fabric was chosen for the border of this piece, to bring out the ear th tones of the batik. This fabric also has a texture that emphasises the batiks own unique texture. The outer edge of the frame is wide and neutral in champagne leaf color and has sloping edges. This par t of the frame draws the eye into the border and paint ing whi le also adding an extra dimension to it through minimal or namentation.

D I A M O N D S A R E F O R E V E R – T H E E X H I B I T I O N

Ever y frame in this exhibit ion tr uly gives compell ing insight into WinSon’s unique style, per spective and own interpretat ions of the framed ar t. Ever y piece of frame is an ar t, giving col lector s the dist inct ion of owning a unique ar t piece with a

frame that completes it . The thread that binds it al l together is the unrival led qual ity, sophist icat ion and ar t ist ic beauty of each and ever y frame. Just l ike a paint ing, colour, texture, l ines and shape are al l considered and come together to enrich the experience of the ar t. Whether it is a del icate piece or one with a bold and forceful atmosphere, i t has a frame designed to suit and protect.

With so many ambit ions, col lector s can tr uly be assured that PINKGUY wi l l forever continue to ref ine and progress with the t imes, producing qual ity frames and uti l is ing visionar y approaches in pract ice.

WinSon has had many dreams and plans for PINKGUY. It was his dream to create safe and beauti ful casings for ar t that generate long last ing attachments between owner and ar t piece. This is a real i ty today where ever y frame can be seen to merge with each specif ic ar t wor k in perfect harmony. It was also one of his dreams since the print ing of his f ir st book, to have a publ icat ion about his own wor k to be in Kinokuniya for other s to see. With this special publ icat ion, yet another milestone wi l l be reached. The future of PINKGUY is looking to be a bright one, with hopeful ly more achievements to be attained.

“Diamonds are Forever,”

Just l ike the ar t and ar t ists WinSon shows, i t is also evident that WinSon himself has progressed and improved over t ime adding to his designs and frame “series.” From exhibit ion to exhibit ion, WinSon has shown an ar t ists abi l i ty to fur ther enhance and ref ine his own wor k. From older exhibit ions with c lassic looking frames, his style has progressed to the new “frameless” look, which was f ir st created in Yong Look Lam’s exhibit ion “Ashore” (October 2010), and was f ir st used completely in Suzlee Ibrahim’s exhibit ion “Dialogue.” (May 2013). This style was then improved upon and can be seen in the “Passions of Japan,” exhibit ion (June 2013), to have developed into a “double-frameless” ef fect. This way of framing which is unique to PINKGUY can now be seen encasing many modern ar t pieces that is shown with added elements specif ic to the ar t and exhibit ion at the t ime. In Ch’ng Huck Theng’s apple series for example, this frameless style was accompanied by green and red colour s to match the concept of the Apple series.

we bel ieve that good things do indeed last Forever.

Hui Lin and I feel most sincerely happy to be able to share in the joyous celebration for WinSon’s 30th anniver sar y in ar t and framing business.

Al l of us ar t lover s are ful ly aware of the ver y impor tant role played by the ar t framing wor k in the conser vation and preser vation of the value of our ar t pieces. That is why we can only rejoice when we learn that WinSon has been able to continue his excel lent wor k for 30 year s. He cer tainly has earned and deser ved our warmest congratulat ions and thanks for his per severance in ser ving the ar t ists, ar t lover s and col lector s faithful ly.

Winson has a humble star t i f we read about his upbringing. 30 year s is a long t ime. It is long enough for a young lad to grow into today’s one of Malaysia’s most prol i f ic and talented frame maker s.

A C O N G R A T U L A T O R Y M E S S A G E F O R W I N S O N ’ S 3 0 T H A N N I V E R S A R Y C E L E B R A T I O N

We have spent countless del ightful hour s roaming in PINKGUY. We may even confess that each t ime we visit his gal ler y, we feel a l i t t le “jealous.” We could not help but bring back the fond memor y gathered from reading the histor y of the Qing’s “Liul ichang” (琉璃厂) in Bei j ing, the favorite haunt for painter s, cal l igrapher s and col lector s of ar t congregated to exhibit and deal for paint ing, cal l igraphy, potter y and ar t i fact and rare books. His career is most admirable and enviable as he is not only bathe in the beauty of ar ts but enrich his l i fe with colour s. Through the wonderful hospital i ty of WinSon, we have known many things about ar ts.

We are confident WinSon wi l l last and radiate with accomplishments for a long t ime ahead. We expect that he wi l l continue his wor k during year s and year s to come, overcoming new chal lenges and changes, al l for the good of the ar t wor ld. Tonny & Hui Lin

He has bui lt upon the successes of the past to establ ish the brand “PINKGUY” which is one of the best ar t framing brands in Malaysia. Such company strength can only be achieved by adhering to business principles of honesty and integrity and by treating his customer s with great respect. WinSon has taken these principles and made them par t of PINKGUY phi losophy.

With the creation of his diamond signature frame in 2008, WinSon has also brought a signif icat ive change on the value and feel ing into ful ly play in this new epoch from his creative and unique design. With this unique framing, the ar ts can be more gorgeously presented to the eyes of the ar t lover s.

Through ar t framing, WinSon has also learnt and gathered enough knowledge to be a connoisseur of ar ts act ively promoting local ar ts. He also enter s into fr aming sponsor ship for ar t auct ion pieces in Malaysia Ar t Scene. This proves his excel lent craftmanship, his ef f icient ser vice to customers and the fa i thful/rel iable relat ionship with the ar t ists and ar t col lector s. We may say such a business experience is a successful paragon and a good example for many to emulate.

On a rather per sonal level, what we always found most extraordinar y about our fr iend WinSon is his unique abi l i ty to blend business with passion: Li felong passion for the wor ld of ar ts.

We consider our selves deeply honoured to be par t of this celebration. We are del ighted by the year s of fr iendship we have shared and hope that our fr iendship continues to grow. On reaching this impor tant milestone, Hui Lin and I join other s of his fr iends and col leagues in sending him our ver y best wishes for the future.

We sincerely wish the future of WinSon and PINKGUY would be l ike an “Evergreen” tree! May God Bless You abundantly!

We were introduced to WinSon by Tham Siew Inn. What star ted of f as a simple day walking through Malacca ended up with us entering Mr. Tham’s gal ler y.. . at that t ime we knew who he was but not where his gal ler y was located. Hour s later, we walked out of his gal ler y being proud new owner s of “Dancer s in the night,” a dist inct ly unique wor k among his many notable wor ks, as wel l as an introduction to a framer who would help us with preser vation framing. And thus was our introduction to WinSon and Pol ly.

On our f ir st visit (which had to be by appointment!), we thoroughly enjoyed their company whi le discussing our newly acquired wor k and the framing necessar y to preser ve it . We subsequently received invitat ions to future shows, and have always been coming back.

We have been to several PINKGUY gal ler y shows, and have found there are always two constants: f ir st, the qual ity of ar t ists showcasing their wor k there is ver y high, and second, the frames are always superbly made to not only contain but bring out the best in the piece.. . which t ies to WinSon’s view that a frame is not just a str ucture to mount a paint ing to a wal l , but i t has to be careful ly designed to tr uly unwrap the beauty of the paint ing. Final ly, with the last few shows WinSon has taken on a radical way of looking at show sales.. . no one has a f ir st-r ight to buy! He has a strong sense of fair ness to al l his c l ients, and thus al l the paint ings are covered and guests get to see them only as they are unvei led one by one.

It has been a tr ue pleasure watching the ef for ts of our fr iends tur n into the PINKGUY gal ler y that we see today. May their success and our fr iendship continue.

Adam & Rebecca Badri

I see WinSon as my mentor and also as a dear fr iend. Coming from the wor ld of music making, I ’m always interested in al l forms of ar t and I ’m real ly for tunate to have met WinSon who has introduced me into his wor ld of ar t col lect ing.

My f ir st col lect ion was Tang Hong Lee paint ing back in 2011. I love the color tones and there goes my f ir st pink dot at PINKGUY Gal ler y. I l ike the fact that no two frames are the same thus making them an ar t piece by themselves. The approach towards each paint ings/subject were dealt with such attention to detai ls and with bold styl ing that brought l i fe and enhanced dynamics of the subject/paint ings. This gave me confidence that ever y ar t piece that has a diamond bearing frame is a masterpiece, acknowledge by a ver y experience and masterc lass ski l led WinSon Loh.

Alex Tan Star Mount Studio

Over the 9 year s that I have known WinSon I have always found his approach to framing and ar twor k to be total ly professional. I t is evident that he evaluates the ar twor k f ir st and foremost, and only then assists in recommending a framing solut ion, which is what gives the PINKGUY a point of dif ference.

Adrian Symons

Throughout the year s I have been expanding my col lect ion, I have real ized that WinSon is by far the best frame maker in Malaysia. He balances both cost and aesthetics in his gal ler y, always helping customer s acquire pieces at a fair value. He also, ver y notably, frames each paint ing himself. WinSon’s experience and exper t ise guides his technique, and I am always reassured that each frame is of high qual ity. With this bespoke ser vice, the presentation each piece is careful ly considered; i ts frame always ser ves to enhance its beauty.

WinSon has a ver y keen eye for matching appropriate frames to ar twor ks to enhance the aesthetic experience of those wor ks. This, I bel ieve, could only be stemmed from his own deep appreciat ion for paint ings. In my mind, WinSon is a great ser vant of his craft and someone who has cer tainly added a new dimension to my continuing education in ar t.

WinSon Loh is a tr ue professional. His advice was real ly invaluable in me under standing the value and rarity of my family’s ar t col lect ion.

I wi l l always appreciate his knowledge, dedication and professional ism. I bel ieve his qual ity is a cut above the rest.

I have to admit, whenever we are unvei l ing newly reframed auction pieces by our par tner PINKGUY, I feel ner vous and excited simultaneously, for ever y frame created by WinSon comes with its own surprise and innovation. It is extremely rare and admirable to f ind someone to have so much passion for framing, which is an impor tant aspect of conser ving the condit ion and enhancing the visual appeal of an ar twor k, and often neglected by many.

It is not an exaggeration to say that PINKGUY’s framing always stands out among other s: i ts choice of material , colour, texture, composit ion, and the way it integrates with the ar twor k. During our travel ing auction preview exhibit ions to Penang, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur, PINKGUY’s frames never fai l to steer up enthusiast ic attention and controver sy amongst the viewer s. 30 year s has passed, and now, we look forward to see what WinSon has up his sleeves for the next 30 year s to come!

Chris Tay Henry Butcher Ar t AuctioneersI never knew framing can make so much dif ference to a piece of drawing, an old

pair of shoes or just simply a piece of paper unt i l i get to know WinSon a few year s back and thereafter there is always a reason to frame something up.

In WinSon’s framing I get to see a lot more than just a “bingkai,” instead of the picture that he is framing, the frame itself is actual ly tel l ing you a stor y, the stor y of the per son framing it , his per sonal ity and his taste which I got to appreciate so much more after knowing him as a fr iend.

He is def initely an asset to Malaysia because the beauty he is capable of creating is yet to be found anywhere else.

WinSon, I am proud to have you as my fr iend.

I can only said that after I purchase my f ir st ar t piece from you many year s ago, I have been your regular c l ient due to your per severance to do whatever thing you do.

You would go al l the way to bring the best and latest in framing to match the ar t piece in your show.

I hope you wi l l keep up the good wor k for the good of ar t.

My dear WinSon,

From the ver y f ir st moment I read about you in an ar t ic le of the Expat Magazine, you made an impression on me.

I was touched by the stor y where you told the reader who you are, where you come from and how passion & family is impor tant to you.

As I share these values deeply, and because I know what it is to no longer have a father around l ike you do, I decided to contact you about three year s ago to have my wedding gown framed.

Meeting you in per son confirmed was ver y special. . . WinSon, you are an example for many people around you.

You are your self and you l ive your dream. You wi l l do business with ever yone and wi l l treat ever yone the same way, with honesty and respect.

I value you for that.

This al l comes together in the frames you have made for us, and of which my wedding gown is the most special. I t symbolises so much more than only the love between my husband and myself.

And you know that.

Thank you WinSon.

The Passionate Framer

I am an inter national ar t col lector and am happen to be one of PINKGUY’s ear l iest c l ients at the Marc Residence. I am honoured to have his wor k in al l my homes. Have kept coming back because his framing is an ar t in i tself which has no paral lel the wor ld over. PINKGUY is not only extremely talented but is also passionate about his wor k and that has earned him a global recognit ion – a posit ion he tr uly merits. I wish him ever y success in the coming year s. Cheer s to PINKGUY!

How impor tant is framing to a piece of ar twor k? How much money, t ime and ef for t do I want to al locate to the framing por t ion of the ar twor k? Wil l proper framing contributes to enhancing the intr insic value of an ar twor k? Myself, being operating in a ver y competit ive constr uct ion/engineering industr y whereby ever ything needs just i f icat ions, have been post ing the above quest ions when the issue of reframing my ar t col lect ion ar ises.

So, when WinSon Loh of PINKGUY Malaysia Ar t & Frame suggested to me to reframe one of my Eston Tan wor k way back in 2006, I told myself why not explore the suggestion. What fol lows was a chal lenge to my normal industr ial pract ices as the price quoted by him was so much higher than what I can obtain from other framing shops. I st i l l remember l i teral ly tel l ing him, NO WAY. Being a good mar keter in WinSon Loh, he convinced me to let him tr ied out the Eston Tan piece and I reluctantly said yes to him. Many weeks later, when I received the reframed ar twor k from him, I star ted to real ized and under stand why he is considered one of the top framer in the industr y and the issue of high cost and long wait ing period slowly dissipated in me. The qual ity and specif icat ion of material used, design geometr y of the frame, colour composit ion, and al l that I would possibly ask for from such expensive exercise is there, i f not more. Yes, the main attract ion

My wife and I f ir st met WinSon at the Henr y Butcher Ar t Auction in May 2012 at the White Box, Publ ika. Dressed in his signature black apron, a frown of concentrat ion on his forehead, WinSon was busy demonstrat ing his conser vation framing technique to a group of ar t lover s, dealer s and curious onlooker s.

Since then, we have made several vis its to his gal ler y at the Marc Residences to view his many beauti ful ly framed paint ings and to buy a few pieces. We are proud to say that we have quite a few pieces in our col lect ion framed by PINKGUY inc luding ar twor k by master ar t ists such as Yusof Ghani, Khal i l Ibrahim, Cheng Haw Chien, Lum Weng Kong and Yong Look Lam.

WinSon truly has a talent for framing. He has a keen eye for detail and colour and is not afraid to experiment with dif ferent techniques and styles of framing to enhance the beauty and aura of a painting. Sometimes he is persistent in pushing through his own ideas of how a painting should be framed even though we as customers may have a dif ferent opinion! However, in the end his recommendations have always proven to be right as the painting is magically transformed into something quite dramatic and eye-catching. More impor tantly, he is passionate about conser vation techniques in framing to ensure that the painting wil l continue to “l ive” for several generations. With his iconic signature diamond stud he has managed to elevate the ar t of framing to new levels of excellence.

WinSon Loh the “PINKGUY”

is st i l l in the ar twor k but the framing done by WinSon Loh, somehow or rather in my point of view and perception, reinforced and enhanced the impact and captivated my imagination more than what I possibly can derived pr ior to the reframing exercise and this eye opening experience changed the way I look at the impor tant of fr aming.

I f I do not have the priv i lege to compare, I would have happi ly accepted and be contended with whatever frame that comes along with the ar twor k. Once I have gone through the per sonal experience of seeing how a professional ly done framing can do to a piece of ar twor k, there is no looking back. The professional ly done framing by WinSon Loh is expensive and the queuing period can be rather long, but I per sonal ly bel ieve the money is wel l spend and the wait ing period wor th tolerat ing. I ’m gett ing something that is special and wel l though for each and ever y pieces of my col lect ion and at t imes, and up t i l l to date. I ’m st i l l amazed with what WinSon Loh is capable of doing. Comparatively, I do not have many paint ings nor do I have any great ar twor ks in my col lect ion, but I make a point to ensure that whatever I have, I have them framed by WinSon Loh.

When I f ir st met WinSon four year s ago, I was impressed with his passion which he exhibited in capturing images within a frame. His commitment, convict ion and being candid towards my needs attracted my attention as to how honest and tr ustwor thy he is and that is how our journey of fr iendship begins.

A paint ing is similar to a human’s body. It must be framed to enhance its beauty. Creating and select ing the most suitable c lothing is l ike a frame which requires a technical ly competent professional l ike WinSon from PINKGUY. That is why I place my tr ust and admirat ion in his exper t ise and commitment in framing my col lect ion of paint ings. When the human body is wel l dressed and presented, i t wi l l enhance the look and draw attention to al l those who lay their eyes on it .

Treasures of precious paint ing l ike Abdul Lati f f Mohidin, Dato’ Shari fah and Khal i l Ibrahims’ wor ks were extended to him feely with his creativ ity to tur n the wor k of ar ts into masterpieces. These transformation are only possible through sheer passion and dedication of which WinSon embodies.

Dato’ Che Mohd Din Abu Samah

I never real ize that framing an Ar t piece is so impor tant unti l I met WinSon. The ef for ts and thoughts he put in when he frames an Ar t, brings out another appreciat ion aspect of that Ar t. As in the t i t le, “Diamonds are Forever,” his ar t in framing also brings out the beauty and greatness in that ar t piece forever.. .

Dato’ Dr Wenddi Anne Chong

Ar t is the soul product of an ar t ist. One can see and feel a piece of an ar t ist’s soul in ever y piece of his/her wor k. I am fascinated with the psyche of an ar t ist behind an ar t piece, especial ly those that can connect with me. I thought that was it unti l I am shown to a possibi l i ty of an extension to an ar t piece, which is the frame upon which an ar t piece can be connected to.

Here, I am exposed to the talent of one man, WinSon Loh of the famed PINKGUY, He is not the average frame maker but an ar t ist, explorer and visionar y at i t . He bel ieves, with the approval of the ar t ists he wor ks with, that an ar t piece can be fur thered with an appropriate frame or combination of frames, types, materials and color s to bring for th a meaningful boundar y and/or an expanded meaning to an ar t piece. I bel ieved that an ar t piece holds cer tain experience, emotion, t ime and imagination of the ar t ist involved and that being in the ar t piece can in tur n be contained in a frame. It ’s l ike the l iquid of al l the above being contained in an appropriate bowl to be savored by the invested.

Thus, i t is an ar t istr y by itself, in frame making to extent, not enhance (in my book), an ar t piece. Any mistake here by the frame maker wi l l not only of f the balance of the intended nature of the ar t piece but can entirely destroy it . To me, the del icateness to draw a balance here is an ar t altogether.

Hence, the asking price of this ar t ist wi l l commensurate with the ar t piece that is to be “contained” in the meaningful “bowl of experience, emotion, t ime and imagination.” One cannot expect price normality since it is an extension of the ar t piece itself that only the invested can judge. I have seen, felt , experienced and ult imately paid for such an ar t without regret but enjoyment.

WinSon became my sole Frame Maker after a chanced and casual introduction by Adrian Symons, Director of M Moser Associates sometime in mid-2000. At that t ime I was searching for a decent Frame Maker to do just ice to my col lect ion of original prints by Ken Duncan, one of Austral ia’s foremost Landscape Photographer s. With some trepidations I handed the precious prints to WinSon and my init ial thought was the framing would tur n out to be l ike any other r un of the mil l from other framer s in town. What a pleasant surprise when they were returned beauti ful ly and matchingly framed according to scener y in the photographs. The exquisite framings real ly accentuate the prints and ever since then al l my ar t col lect ions have been solely framed by PINKGUY.

Wor ks of Ar t deser ve the best frames and WinSon gave his best. He has cer tainly succeeded in elevating his profession to an ar t form. There are many Frame Maker s in town, but there is only one PINKGUY. Being able to touch many ar t lover s through his framings and be passionate in what he does, is an immeasurable contr ibution to Kuala Lumpur ar t scene in par t icular.

Over the year s WinSon and I have become c lose fr iends sharing similar passion in ar t and cul inar y. He has become a regular feature at my home whenever I embar k on cooking passion. And he is also my ardent food crit ique.

WinSon is a di l igent and passionate ar t fr iend. We met for the f ir st t ime at the f ir st Henr y Butcher Malaysia Ar t Auction. I was there to bid for the Ibrahim Hussein and f inal ly I got i t .

After I received this from the Auction House, I was star t ing to know what is PINKGUY frame.

And he informed me that he is the frame maker.

Since then he has been an ar t fr iend whom I share my passion for ar t and design. I have quite a fair bit of ar t col lect ions which have been reframed by WinSon. He transforms a dul l sett ing into a fresh and excel lent display. He under stands the framing of an ar t piece. I am happy with WinSon wor k and intr igued by the way he came up with the name PINKGUY. WinSon say the name PINKGUY sounds the same as “bingkai” which is the Bahasa Melayu word for Frame. A wonder in itself, innovation and creativ ity sums up the good wor k WinSon has produced for me over t ime.

WinSon his ar t gal ler y has a niche which has added a new edge to my col lect ion. The discover y of wor ks by new ar t ists is an experience I enjoy at PINKGUY.

Dato’ Wan Mohammad Khair-i l Anuar Wan Ahmad

Cloths make a man… So the over-quoted c l iché goes. But, do frames make a paint ing?

I was asked by my good fr iend WinSon to write a few words for inc lusion in his special publ icat ion in conjunction with the “Diamonds are Forever” exhibit ion celebrating his 30 year s of framing success stor y.

Instead of heaping more praises on his framing, which I bel ieve he is ver y much accustomed to by now, I told him that I would relate an experience I had with his framing.

A whi le back, I bought two small watercolour s by Khoo Sui Hoe t it led “Image Colourful I & I I .” The paint ings were hung on the wal l of a gal ler y one on top of the other and did not look especial ly attract ive or inspir ing in the nondescript frames they were in. But, somehow they spoke to me. My immediate thought then was that they should also speak to each other and there must be rappor t between them.

I have known WinSon for more than a few year s and it is about t ime that he wrote a book about his ar t. He is a talent for designing frames that brings out the essence of the ar t wor k it holds. His ar t is behind the scenes which most don’t real ize.

Dato’ Sheridan Ramli

WinSon star ted framing for me in 2007 and I have been going to him since. Ever y piece is framed meticulously and he always impresses me with his creativ ity. I have faith in him to del iver qual ity framing that brings out the subject so wel l . WinSon has great eye for detai ls, passionate about his wor k and that makes a whole lot of dif ference.

Datuk (Dr.) Kelvin Tan

I bought the paint ings and brought them over to WinSon. We discussed my feel ings of the ar twor k and how I wanted his framing to ref lect that. And as one can see, WinSon’s framing thoroughly achieved that and admirably wel l too.

Now when I look at the two paint ings side-by side with the images facing each other, I can feel the three way communications and rappor t I wanted when I f ir st saw the ar twor k. In the words of Georges Braque: “Objects don’t exist for me except in so far as a rappor t exists between them or between them and myself.”

No, frames don’t make a paint ing. But, I bel ieve a good frame and masterful framing can add a fur ther communicative dimension to an ar twor k and the rappor t between the ar twor k and the beholder.

I chanced upon WinSon but WinSon’s success as a frame maker, as I came to know him, was not by chance or cronyism but through innate intel l igence and sheer hard wor k. A paint ing by the late Ibrahim Hussein bought in the late 70s, framed by frame maker s of those t imes, was looking jaded. Somehow the frame did not do it just ice. So it was that I was always on the lookout for a frame maker who was more than a frame maker.

One day as I was ear ly at visit ing a fr iend at a posh condominium in Kuala Lumpur, I decided to look the place over. Though discreetly located, PINKGUY Gal ler y, stopped me in my tracks. The wal ls had paint ings that I thought were wel l framed. I asked for the boss of the place but was told that he was there by appointment. The appointment was made, I took the paint ing to his place, and after l istening to how he proposed to re-frame it , left i t with him. When I got home my wife asked how I could be so tr ust ing as to just leave our most valuable paint ing to him; there was a receipt but what i f he reneged? After some t ime WinSon brought the paint ing duly framed as he saw it . And we had to admit that he had “brought out” the paint ing. The rest as they say is histor y and we are sure many wi l l have many stories of how and when they chanced on WinSon.

WinSon is a self-made man who by his abi l i ty to bring out the best in a piece of ar t has made framing a profession.

WinSon r uns his own gal ler y and r uns it in his own equitable and fair way. Al l too often visit ing ar t exhibit ion at gal ler ies is an unsatisfactor y experience. At the opening most of “the best” pieces would have been sold! I f you are a VIP,

Tribute to WinSon Loh, the Frame Maker Extraordinaire

or connected one gets to view and buy the pieces much ear l ier. At a PINKGUY Gal ler y Exhibit ion al l the pieces for sale are viewed at a launch at which al l his c l ients are invited to view them simultaneously inc luding the over seas c l ients who wi l l v iew them on Email . For the f ir st t ime we could view al l the ar t and have an equal chance to buy them. Clear ly his honest and principled approach is the basis of his ar t exhibit ions.

WinSon is ver y creative. I never knew there were so many ways and techniques in making frames. He has devised so many dif ferent ways to frame dif ferent pieces of ar t/paint ing var ying from ever y aspect, old to contemporar y, big or small . Al l his wor ks bear his signature with a diamond stud on either side of al l his frames. He has set himself apar t from the other s. He cer tainly has his own dist inct ive trade mar k.

The other characterist ic of WinSon is his preoccupation with perfect ion and his courage to venture out to search comprehensively the best material for his frames that wi l l highl ight the paint ing. This, al l his c l ients can attest to. This sets him apar t from al l the frame maker s in the Klang Val ley. Indeed, His frame makes the paint ing.

Through our journey in the pur suit of acquir ing paint ings with WinSon’s help, we have also become fr iends. We have learned many aspects of the local ar t scene and ar t ists from WinSon as wel l as get to hear al l the interesting happenings in the ar ts frater nity. We have enjoyed al l his ar t exhibit ions and always look forward to the next one.

We met WinSon when someone recommended him to us as we were looking for a rel iable framer for some old and fragi le paint ings. We made an appointment with him, l i t t le knowing that our f ir st encounter would last over 2 hour s, complete with cof fee and great conver sation.

It has been just over a year. Since then, we’ ve consulted WinSon numerous t imes for his professional ism, per sonal ised ser vice and invaluable advice. What sets WinSon apar t is his passion and enthusiasm for his ar t, which is evident in ever y single piece of wor k he’s completed. He shows that he cares.

WinSon has been a good fr iend and we wish him al l the best with his new book and many more anniver saries to come!

When I bought my f ir st paint ing to begin my journey in ar t col lect ing, I knew I wanted something special to mar k the moment, to celebrate the paint ing that star ted it al l . I chose PINKGUY to frame this special paint ing. PINKGUY’s ar t frames are special, not only because they enhance the aesthetics of a paint ing, but also, the result ing frame is an ar t wor k in itself, that extends the character and per sonal ity of the paint ing.

For the Love of Ar t

Me and my husband have been blessed with the oppor tunity of meeting people along the way who has enriched our l ives especial ly in the area of Ar t. We have also been entr usted by ar t ists and fr iends with per sonal ar t pieces as gifts to enjoy and for our boys to appreciate in the year s to come.

There is this par t icular piece of paint ing which we hold dear to our hear ts which took me on a journey to discover the frame-maker, WinSon. I went to PINKGUY Malaysia Ar t & Frame shop with only the intention of having this paint ing professional ly framed. I was however in for a pleasant surprise! I met a man who was not only passionate in the ar t of framing but who also loves ar t! What better combination to entr ust this paint ing to WinSon to frame as he not only knows how to appreciate the paint ing but how to conser ve and frame it .

One would antic ipate that this chance discover y wi l l end upon completion of the framing of the paint ing. WinSon continued to keep in touch by invit ing us to his ar t exhibit ions of ar t ists whom he has a per sonal bond and respect. Needless to say, this journey of discover y through ar t wi l l continue. We would l ike to congratulate WinSon on his 30th anniver sar y of frame-making. Cheer s!

WinSon is the best framer I ’ ve ever met. He’s total ly passionate about his wor k and has made conser vative framing itself into an ar t form!!

PINKGUY has come a long way to become a reputable framer and most impor tant I have found a fr iend in you. Keep up the good wor k and best wishes to you and your team.

WinSon in his framing journey through a span of 30 year s over a few companies has reached a signif icant milestone in his career and craft.

In his professional career as a framer, WinSon has shown great passion in his craft through a creative display of new ideas on how to improve the looks and technique of framing. He does this to tr y to bring out the best in a picture. His posit ive approach is fur ther enhanced by his boundless energies. In his drive to do more, WinSon has met up with quite a number of local ar t ists and through his interact ion with them he has hosted quite a number of ar t exhibit ions. These shows have improved in qual ity and now needless to say, has attracted many par t ic ipants who are ar t lover s and patrons of the ar t wor k.

Gan Soo Jin

Professional and dedicated are words that summarizes WinSon and his gal ler y PINKGUY. It is great to see not just the qual ity ar t ists they promote but also someone dedicated to the ar t of framing. WinSon and his team has not only assisted me in framing many of my per sonal col lect ions but also has introduced me to dif ferent local Malaysian and inter national ar t ists. I t is my pleasure to recommend PINKGUY as Malaysia’s premium ar t gal ler y.

Frankly, “Aura” by Lum Weng Kong. this is our 1st col lected paint ing.

We l ike it ver y much especial ly with the styl ish & cozy frame by PINKGUY These 2 are a perfect blend to exude the charm & posit ive energy of the main character, the hor se, in the paint ing. Plus, with an exquisite framing, i t helps to endure the l i fespan of the paint ing as wel l .

I st i l l remember that after noon four year s ago that led us to WinSon. We happened to be viewing a potential proper ty at Marc Residence and stumbled upon PINKGUY on our way home. I had just moved to Malaysia after 18 year s in the United Kingdom and we were looking for a good framer for one of the ar t pieces that we had brought back.

We met the beauti ful Pol ly that day and made an appointment to meet with WinSon to discuss framing options for another day.

We met WinSon in the days that fol lowed. We didn’t f ind a good framer that day – we found a great one! That same day, I also learnt about his fascination with the Number 6. Above al l , and most impor tantly for us, that day, we found great and dear fr iends.

I l istened for the f ir st t ime to WinSon tel l ing us the stor y of his journey and str uggle from his humble beginning to now with hugh admirat ion. It ’s tr uly inspirat ional. I t gives hope to ever yone who is wi l l ing to wor k hard towards achieving one’s dreams. And WinSon has cer tainly wor ked extremely hard, and succeeded. But what I f ind most l iberating about WinSon t ime and t ime again is his humil i ty despite al l his success.

The f ir st t ime I discovered PINKGUY, WinSon was located in Plaza Damas. I had just moved to KL and needed to have a large antique French stone l i thograph, damaged during our move from the U.S., reframed. Whi le looking for another ar t framer, recommended by a fr iend, I discovered PINKGUY, by accident, and he just happened to be in the shop on a Saturday after noon. It tur ned out to be a ver y for tuitous, although accidental meeting! After meeting WinSon, I put my tr ust in him and he exper t ly reframed the poster and added addit ional conser vation features to help ensure the l i thograph lasts another one hundred twenty year s. After this chance meeting, we continued to bring newly acquired pieces of ar t to WinSon for framing. His attention to detai l , great eye and innovative framing have never let us down, and he has framed over thir ty pieces for us.

The f ir st t ime I met WinSon was at Henr y Butcher’s inaugural ar t auction back in 2010. WinSon and his team were “performing” the ar t wor k inspection for would be buyer s at the auction. Whi le our Crown Fine Ar t team was tasked with bringing the ar twor ks for the inspection. Why “performing?” It is because I was pretty amazed when WinSon just ef for t lessly opens up the backing of ar twor ks to show the condit ion of the ar twor ks and puts it al l back quite easi ly. He made it look simple as he exudes confidence in how he handles the ar twor ks.

I then introduced myself to him and as they say, the rest was histor y. I star ted to learn about who this PINKGUY (as he is af fect ionately known) was as he was already ver y famous in the ar t circ le. I found WinSon to be ver y down to ear th, intel l igent, pract ical and honest. He speaks him mind, a trait I appreciate ver y much. WinSon’s passion for his wor k is second to none. He always does his best and has his c l ients’ interest at hear t. I was touched with his family histor y and how WinSon was determined to succeed even at a tender age. I bel ieve this is what separates him from the competit ion and made him to what he is today, a successful conser vation frame maker, gal ler ist and ar t col lector. I wish WinSon many more successful year s ahead for PINKGUY.

Joseph Neoh Crown Fine Ar t

We also began purchasing pieces from ar t ists that WinSon came to represent, one of whom was Suzlee Ibrahim, whom we came to know per sonal ly and who’s wor k we greatly admire. He was the f ir st abstract painter whose wor k we found inspirat ional. We star ted col lect ing smaller pieces from the London and Dubai series, we then purchased mult iple pieces from the Monsoon and Kingdom series as wel l . I can remember sitt ing in WinSon’s gal ler y before Monsoon opened, staring at the cover piece, “Yel low Night” for thir ty minutes. I then sat up and purchased it without thinking twice. Our most recent purchase by Suzlee. at auction, was the elephant statue that he painted for the Elephant Conser vation Auction in 2011 in Singapore. This brings our col lect ion of Suzlee pieces to seven, and we could not be more proud to have suppor ted such a great ar t ist over the past six year s. We always bel ieved in his talent and broad appeal, and his success with Maybank is a wonderful recognit ion of the qual ity of his pieces and their inspirat ion to other s. We could not be more proud to be associated with our fr iends WinSon and Suzlee.

I have known Mr. WinSon Loh for more than 30 year s. WinSon is a man with great integrity, creativ ity and lot of enthusiasms in ar t industr y. I t was him that brought me into the fascinating and colorful wor ld of ar ts and paint ings.

Al l these year s, WinSon has faithful ly del ivered top qual ity and excel lent ar t exhibit ions. With his sincerity and patience in sharing his experiences with a layman l ike me in ar ts, I have the golden oppor tunity to learn and appreciate the tr ue value of ar ts. Final ly, in a ver y recent exhibit ion organized by PINKGUY, I have bought my ver y f ir st piece of paint ing in my l i fe. I am ver y sure that this is never my last or only piece. A big thank you to WinSon!

Jonathan Chow Moon Chee

WinSon is not only a pioneer in Malaysia’s frame making, he is also an ar t enthusiast who always comes up with new ideas and is relentless doing something revolut ionar y, from 3D framewor k to reformation in ar t exhibit ion. He surprised me ever y t ime I inter viewed him on behalf of Men’s Uno magazine with his prospective visions. And during our next inter view after a couple of year s, he successful ly real ized what he had determined to do. A resolute pract it ioner who never stops from moving forward is the best word to describe him. Apar t from his ingenuity, he is also a man of sincerity. That is why so many peoples from al l walks of l i fe that he acquainted with through his framing ser vice had f inal ly become his c lose fr iends.

I am st i l l feel ing touched by the gift he presented to me in year 2010. He purposely mounted the news cutt ing of my f ir st inter view on the press into an intr icately made frame. This is def initely a priceless piece. Not because of his invaluable craftsmanship but also his great cordial i ty. I want to take this oppor tunity to express my earnest gratitude here. I also want to prof fer him my hear ty congratulat ion on his debut book “Diamonds are Forever” which is f inal ly publ ished now (which is also one of his resolut ion he told me year s ago, and now he made it). I am sure this f ir st book in Malaysia about the ar t of framing wi l l be an eye-opener to al l reader s. Good job, WinSon!

My journey with WinSon star ted in the late 90s, when me & my family moved back to KL from Sweden. I needed to reframe some of my paint ings and was scouting around for a framing shop and that is when I found WinSon at “Frame networ k.” WinSon did quite a few framing for me and I am always happy with the results. I found him ver y creative and have a dif ferent approach to framing. Back then he cal led himself “The Hang Man.” Today he is “The PINKGUY” with diamonds! I had fol lowed WinSon from Bandar Menjalara to Sri Har tamas and now at Marc Ser vice Residence in KL where he has his studio. He has come a long way with his innovative ideas. Occasional ly, he organises ar t exhibit ions at his studio. I have attended a few and I real ly enjoy seeing al l the new and upcoming ar t ists.

Today, WinSon is not only my framing guy but a fr iend.

I only met WinSon a year ago at an exhibit ion in his gal ler y, but his sincerity and honesty str uck me right away. He has also unself ishly educated me in ar t, which I did not have much knowledge of at that t ime. He wi l l remain a great fr iend of mine forever.

I also f ind WinSon’s framing to be ver y exquisite, with his signature diamonds inser ted into the frame. Not only is i t beauti ful but of excel lent qual ity, making the frame itself a piece of ar t.

We have one word to describe WinSon Loh –“Exceptional.”

A f i l ia l son, caring husband, doting father, under standing boss and a good fr iend. His enthusiasm for his wor k is impressive. He has an interesting range of talent where the ar t of framing is concerned.

WinSon is a self made man and ver y humble. He has helped contributed to the Ar ts scene in Malaysia by encouraging young ar t ists to develop their ski l l . He would even purchase paint materials for them when they could not af ford it . He has a generous hear t and spir it .

As a customer and fr iend, we f ind he is always wi l l ing to help in any way that he can without hesitat ion.

We wish WinSon continued success and best wishes for his future endeavor s.

PINKGUY is a stor y of a man who has succeeded beyond al l expectat ions and against al l odds in the ver y competit ive wor ld of ar t. Coming from a ver y humble background and lacking formal education, WinSon’s success has shown us that dreams can always be achieved, with boldness, determination, hardwor k, passion, integrity and honour.

He ser ves as an inspirat ion to al l who share these same cherished values. Like the saying, “Picasso is only a stroke of the brush away.”

Congratulat ions WinSon for a road wel l-travel led and al l the best for the future as you continue to scale greater heights.

I came to know PINKGUY/WinSon Loh through a fr iend a couple of year s back. I was a customer init ial ly and later became a fr iend.

Ever since then I have seen PINKGUY grow leaps and bounds.

His passion for conser vation framing and ar t has brought him a wide networ k of fr iends and col lector s.

For this wish to congratulate WinSon Loh for his successes He has done extremely wel l and has come a long way from his humble beginnings.

Quality always shines throughout WinSon PINKGUY. Protect ion is guarantee with a diamond. You tr uly deser ve the 7 color s of the diamond’s l ights. A beauti ful paint ing needs a beauti ful PINKGUY frame. Golden r ule, protect ing is better than cheap cures.

God bless good people.

A picture might paint a thousand words but i t speaks more volume i f i t is coupled with a suitable framing.

WinSon Loh’s wor k is equivalent to a “Midas Touch” where his ar t ist ic framing outl ined the tr ue meaning of a picture, thus increasing the picture’s value.

Gett ing to know him through a photography exhibit ion since more than 20 year s ago, I could only say that Loh’s wor k is one of i ts kind and had never cease to amaze people

Having a taste of his own, Loh packages the picture into a whole new look by exc lusively customizing the frame tai lor-made for the picture.

He exer ts his passion and profession towards bringing a whole new signif icance to the meaning embedded in the picture.

About 15 year s ago I used to drive pass a Frame Shop near my of f ice and curiosity made me to pay a visit to the operation. After talking to the proprietor WinSon Loh or PINKGUY and obser ving his wor k displayed plus him appearance in various television and magazine ar t ic les, I was convinced that the frame to be designed and produced by him are what I have desired subconsciously al l this whi le.

I immediately had al l my original Wedding Photographs reframed.

PINKGUY may had moved and upgraded to more posh locations, but I always managed to hunt him and got my chi ldren’s Education Achievement Adver t isements in the national newspaper framed up even though their age gap is 4 year s.

My niece and her husband, a Dane from Denmark treasured so much their Wedding Gift which is a fabric oi l paint ing of c lown f ishs & corals by my twin brother from Kuala Terengganu and had it brought to London where they were wor king. Not satisf ied with the proposed framing by a frame maker in London, i t was brought back to Kuala Lumpur to be framed by PINKGUY after a delay of 2 year s. I t was rather dif f icult to transpor t the framed paint ing measuring 1 meter x 2 meter, but i t was f lew from Kuala Lumpur to London and now it is hung on their home in Denmark.

I f ir st knew WinSon when I walked into his shop, just to frame a picture. Immediately, he went through al l the dif ferent options for framing, but more impor tantly, he explained to me how impor tant i t was to frame a picture proper ly to preser ve it . I knew I had found someone I could entr ust my precious pictures with.

That was more then 7 year s ago. I st i l l go to WinSon for exactly the same reasons – he’s someone I know wi l l always take the greatest care with my pictures. Over the year s, he has also grown to be a good fr iend, someone I can talk to about l i fe and ar t.

With your ef for t manifested in each step you take, you have given ever ything you have in focusing and moving towards success!

These 30 year s is the best attestat ion.

Success is not founded on wit and oppor tunity alone.

But your professional ism and per severance…

It was through an introduction by Mr. Lee 10 year s ago that I got to know you.

Three year s ago, when my daughter was gett ing mar ried, I wanted to give my daughter a wedding gift that is ver y meaningful and special, I had then a good col lect ion of cal l igraphic wor ks done by famous cal l igrapher s.

WinSon walked into my house and al l my pieces came to l i fe. His passion for ar t and the impor tance he places on its presentation and display is second to none. I am most priv i leged to have WinSon as my Ar t buddy.

“In one’s travel, i t is best to walk through a small , rough and rocky path f ir st before heading straight into a highway, i t is so to strengthen oneself before encountering bigger tr ial and tr ibulat ion ever present in a l i fe’s journey,” an old adage once shared to me by a young man. Today I penned for a gentleman whose compass in l i fe’s sojourn had taken him places and won him many admirat ion from many whom had known his str uggles to be where he is today.

At a physical level he is not a statuesque of a f igure, he may walk beside you or cross r ight in front of you, you might st i l l be unaware of his presence. A per son whom you would not take notice of. Over the year s except that in ever y one of our encounter, he would be c lad in black from head to toe, other than al l these once you get

I v is ited and discussed with you how to ampli fy the beauty of them.

You were ver y committed and l istened to my (customer) requests attentively!

Then with your ar t ist ic ski l l , you helped to bring out the beauty of the wor ks!

Your biggest strength is being able to enhance the exquisiteness of an ordinar y thing.

acquainted he would reveal himself, his l i fe stor y is ful l of colour s l ike a paint ing expressed with such veracity. Ever tr uthful with his thoughts and never pretending to be what he is not.

To achieve and accomplish what he had set for th, he is ever so quick in his steps, c larity in his object ives and always, always in the know of where he is heading. These set formulas are not only for bri l l iant business strategy but he rel igiously pract ices just that in leading his l i fe, be it with family, between fr iends and amongst c l ients.

This man whom I am honoured to be a fr iend with is WinSon Loh whom I’ ve known whose l i fe has been guided by such bearings.

I would l ike to wish you a ver y warm congratulat ions for your 30 year s in the framing business.

The f ir st thing I must say is that the gal ler y at PINKGUY holds great ar t pieces from local Malaysian ar t ists which is how I heard of the gal ler y in the f ir st place. Undoubtedly my f ir st stop to check out new ar t pieces and exhibit ions.

The framing of a paint ing is key to complementing the ar twor k itself and stock frames sometimes don’t do the ar twor k just ice. I have had a couple of paint ings reframed at the suggestion of WinSon and the results were great. The r ight frame design and colour makes a big dif ference.

PINKGUY is def initely one of the most professional and reputable gal ler ies and framer s in Malaysia and I would def initely recommend his ser vices to anyone looking for a framing ser vice or a good ar t gal ler y. A tr ue exper t in this f ield.

Best wishes for al l your future endeavour s!

I sent four ar t wor ks for framing to WinSon. I am ver y pleased, and, in fact, impressed with the qual ity of the frames, as wel l as the level of wor kmanship involved. Not only he is par t icular about the qual ity of his craft but also of the hanging of the wor ks too! WinSon has also become a ver y good fr iend and his knowledge in regards to the local ar t scene has proven to be ver y useful insights.

I t was a chance meeting with WinSon. I had just returned from a long sojourn in Italy. Whi le at a fr iend’s, I saw his frames and was enamored with the detai ls, the design; the framing package was an ar t in i tself.

And I thought to my ar t and the frames that I was used to back in Sarzana, which was ver y much archaic and contained in its beauty. And I wanted to break away from the tradit ions that I have used to sel l my wor k in Italy. I wanted change–a modernist idea to framing, which is how I view WinSon, who has always bel ieved that a frame is an ar t form. It also speaks volumes about your per sonal ity and style. WinSon brought a whole new dimension to my wor k, he enhanced them. There’s only so much your canvas can do to tel l a stor y. I now bel ieve when it is framed right, your stor y is complete.

Sheila MiaWinSon is a man with passion in ar t. He bel ieves in his vision, and wor ks ver y hard towards achieving this vision. I wish him wel l and success.

When I think of WinSon and his PINKGUY brand, i t is just l ike LEICA.

When I was f ir st introduced to the Wor ld of Ar t by my audio buddy Mr. Choong, he made ar rangement for us to meet up his brother in law at this PINKGUY Gal ler y at Marc Resident. I was curious what kind of guy would cal led his own gal ler y PINKGUY. Sounded a bit colourful. When I f inal ly met him & after a couple of hour s of chatt ing about paint ings & framing, I discovered that he is cer tainly a colourful character & a bold individual. His ideas about framing is cer tainly unconventional & ver y dif ferent from most frame shops. He cer tainly pract ices the principle, Dare to be Dif ferent. He moved ahead of his competitor s by creating a space of i ts own where there is no competit ion. That’s Bingkai Extraordinaire, WinSon Loh.

When I won my f ir st auction piece. Amsterdam by Suzlee, I decided to get i t reframed by WinSon. Boy, i t was a long, long wait. That tel ls me he has indeed many loyal customer s gett ing their paint ings reframed by him.

After a couple of months. f inal ly my reframing was shown to me. What a wor ld of a dif ference!! ! I t transformed that Suzlee piece from a beauti ful paint ing to a piece of ar t, tr uly enhancing the beauty of the paint ing & I dare said that i t wi l l improve the probabi l i ty of the paint ing being auction for a better price should I put i t up for auction in the future.

Highly recommended framing, though it ’s fair ly expensive. However for the top echelon paint ings it ’s a small price to pay i f i t can enhance the beauty of your paint ings.

I have always bel ieved that fr ames play an impor tant role in ar t pieces. With the r ight frame, the beauty of a piece of ar t can be enhanced signif icantly. This view was reinforced when I had the oppor tunity to experience framing ser vices of fered by PINKGUY.

A few months ago, my of f ice sent some ar t pieces with dated frames to PINKGUY for reframing. When these pieces retur ned, they looked amazing, housed comfor tably in their new frames. The frames were meticulously designed and crafted to bring out the beauty of each piece of ar t which undeniably gave these ar t pieces a new lease of l i fe. I was impressed with the level of detai l and ar t ist ic abi l i ty demonstrated by PINKGUY in designing the frames for each piece of ar t.

With my curiosity piqued, I contacted them to f ind out i f they had any ar t pieces for sale and managed to speak to the proprietor of PINKGUY, Mr. WinSon Loh. We spent close to an hour discussing the Malaysian ar t scene where he shared his experience and impar ted valuable knowledge. Our fr iendship was forged that fateful day, fol lowed by invitat ions to exhibit ions at his gal ler y which I eager ly attended.

The manner in which these exhibit ions are conducted is an experience in itself. Al l pieces are kept covered unti l the specif ic t ime for unvei l ing ar r ives. Only upon unvei l ing wi l l the pieces be made avai lable for purchase. WinSon feels that this method would ensure that ever yone is granted an equal chance to purchase the ar t pieces. However, quick decisions are required lest you feel the st ing of disappointment result ing from not being able to acquire a favoured piece due to indecisiveness. I purchased my f ir st piece of Malaysian ar t in this manner. I t was a memorable experience and I have WinSon to thank for that. WinSon’s wor k speaks volumes for i tself and I am indeed honoured to be associated with him as a fel low ar t enthusiast and more impor tantly, as a fr iend.

“I discovered WinSon’s ar twor k even before we met. I t was way back in 1996 when I had just star ted dabbl ing in the wor ld of photography which drove me in search of the best framer in town for my camera work. As an ar tist, I understood and appreciated the value of frames that would complement my ar twor k. Unbeknownst to both, soon, WinSon and I would have the chance to forge an ar t ist ic col laboration which proved t i l l this day, to be a beauti ful ar t ist ic symbiosis.

It was in 1996 that oppor tunity had presented itself for me to per sonal ly meet WinSon Loh, the PINKGUY, with an introduction by Rusl i Hashim (owner of an ar t gal ler y). Drawn to his craftsmanship, from that moment onwards, I inst inct ively knew that we could ar t ist ical ly and creatively wor k together. Hence, we have been good fr iends ever since.

Be it plain coincidence, or perhaps it was written in the star s, both WinSon and I were born in the year of the monkey; and I feel the aura of abundant energy and great zest for l i fe and ar t i tself emanating.

We are both strong wi l led, determinant and have unbridled love and passion towards what we do. WinSon and I bring out the best in each other, as our ar twor ks complement one another : magical!

With WinSon and myself being passionate of our own crafts, one can be sure of high qual ity masterpieces, as we both never cease to produce immaculate wor k, and this is a guarantee to our c l ients!

During the ear ly stages of my own ar t ist ic journey, WinSon had always been suppor t ive of me, be it in terms of morale suppor t, or in other forms. And that is something that has sealed our fr iendship forever.

There is one lesson that I have picked up from our fr iendship;

NEVER GIVE UP. WinSon NEVER gives up! Let bygones be bygones; with sheer determination and hard wor k singlehandedly, today WinSon has crafted a name and driven the PINKGUY ar t to a total ly dif ferent level. He is indeed Malaysia’s Most Revolut ionar y Frame-Maker.

My f ir st encounter with WinSon Loh happened in a Tew Nai Tong solo exhibit ion this year where al l frames were designed by him. I was deeply amazed, not only by the Nanyang style of my respected ar t ist fr iend, the late Nai Tong, but also the extraordinar y framing wor k done by the “PINKGUY.” I decided to invite him to reframe some of my Chinese brush and cal l igraphy pieces. The choice of colour s and materials, coupled with his excel lent craftsmanship help to inject new l i fe into the pieces. WinSon is no ordinar y framer. His enthusiasm, passion and wide knowledge in f ine ar ts make a dif ference.

Tan Sri Chan Kong Choy

WinSon has a remar kably good taste in select ing the r ight frames and border s to accentuate the ver y best of an ar t piece. Whether it is by an ordinar y ar t ist or a famous ar t ist, WinSon’s wor k adds l i fe to a paint ing. In fact, the same ar twor k would project a dif ferent beauty under WinSon’s magical touch.

The year 2009 after reading an ar t ic le by PINKGUY on ar t framing in the star I was curious to f ind out who is this guy.

I went to his gal ler y and there was this shor t man who introduce himself as WinSon as the PINKGUY featured in the star paper.

He was kind of talkat ive who ratt le away his framing was the best method to prevent paint ing being destroy by fungus.. . humidity. . . etc.

At that t ime I was already an accidental ar t collector who knows nothing about preser vation of painting. I realised this guy talk make sense as my 4 year s old paint ing have fungus mar k.

I have known WinSon from the f ir st Ar t Expo Malaysia back in 2007. That is when I began to star t col lect ing ar ts and WinSon has successful ly pitched to me on the impor tance of good conser vation framing. Along the year s, we have become best of fr iends sharing our passions for ar ts. WinSon is a great per son, small in size but big with ideas, creativ ity and energy. It has been a great journey knowing WinSon and for this Diamond Framing exhibit ion, I wish WinSon and PINKGUY Gal ler y al l the best and to be the best for many year s to come.

I discovered WinSon’s frames more than ten year s ago and have been using him to frame al l my valuable paint ings. He puts real thought into the ar t of framing. So that i t does just ice to the subject matter. WinSon’s fr aming is in i tsel f a real wor k of ar t .

He not only gave free advice on framing but also various views on ar t col lect ion both from view point of investment and ar t as beauti ful picture to admire and de stress after a t ir ing and stressful day.

From that ver y meeting I end up investing in a couple of nice pieces by local ar t ist in oi l and watercolor. Those pieces have appreciated ver y much in value over the past 5 year s.

WinSon Loh of PINKGUY

I f ir st met WinSon Loh of PINKGUY Malaysia Ar t & Frame about Five year s ago at an ar t auction here in Kuala Lumpur. A common fr iend to the two of us introduced us.

I had previously heard that WinSon is regarded by many people as an absolutely top framer of paint ings and photographs – especial ly paint ings. It str uck me then that I should tr y him out. I asked him to frame some paint ings from a small col lect ion that I have.

WinSon then went over and above to wor k with me is make sure I would be pleased with the f inal product of the framing of my paint ings. He suggested wonderful ly creative options for the paint ings and I could not be happier with the results. He was attentive towards my per sonal style and taste and the style of my home. He gave appropriate and creative suggestions for matt ing and frames, ideas which I would not have thought of on my own. The beauti ful ly framed paint ings have garnered both compliments and interests.

WinSon has the wonderful sense of colour s and the abi l i ty to match them. His framing is a wor k of ar t in i tself.

I t is indeed a pleasure for me to recommend his ser vices with complete confidence. I cer tainly think that WinSon ear l ier reputation as a top top framer is ful ly just i f ied.

zain Azahari

WinSon’s passion in presenting and preser ving wor ks of ar t was evident from our f ir st meeting. We spent two hour s discussing and conceptual is ing the framing, and WinSon explained the technical merits of conser vation framing. The result? One ver y, ver y happy owner of two beauti ful ly framed U Lun Gywe paint ings, which wi l l hopeful ly be passed on to the next generation – without blemish.

WinSon’s eye for enhancing my ar t col lect ion has given me much pleasure. I hope other s have also gained as much. He has an eye for ar t and what it complements.

I t was my husband who intdrouced me to WinSon. He did some framing for TGI Fridays the American restaurant. I t was absolutely fabulous. I soon star ted using his ski l ls to frame pieces for me. I have no regrets.

Because I love them. It just stands out from the rest.

God bless you WinSon.
