Term 2, Week 6 Wednesday 6th June, 2018
Welcome to the Clairgate Chronicle for Week 6, Term
2, 2018.
It is lovely to see settled and engaged classrooms as I
walk around the school. The teachers are busy
evaluating and assessing student’s work, and then
writing student reports. These mid-year reports will be
sent home in the last week of school this term.
I have also been happy to see children picking up
rubbish without being asked to do so…a wonderful
example of showing pride in our school.
Kindness on Purpose Launch
Last week we saw the Kindness on Purpose Launch at
Clairgate – what a great day – lots of singing, happy
faces and an excellent Parent Session in the library
with Clinical Psychologist Katrina Cavanough. We
will be running more Parent Sessions in the future.
Thank you to everyone who came to help us launch
this great program. Thank you also to those who
supported our family in need - we raised over $700
($440 from the cake stall and over $230 from the
“bucket”) which will certainly help with the petrol and
parking bills this family face daily while their little one
is in hospital.
Clairgate Happy Campers
Last week our Stage 3 teachers and students had a
terrific time at their camp at Morisset. The children
enjoyed the flying fox, canoeing, challenge ropes and
many other fun activities. Mr Blanch, Mrs Judge,
Mrs Veide and Mrs Mercer all said the children had a
wonderful time and had excellent manners. Well done
to all – and a special thank you to those amazing
teachers for giving up their family time so that our
children could enjoy themselves and build their social
skills in this way.
Clairgate Shines at the District Cross Country
Carnival
Congratulations to all our District Cross Country
competitors last fortnight. The day was a very
successful day for all children with everyone running
at top speed! Mr Blanch, Ms Paulic and Mrs Roberts
said they were so proud of our students who all tried
their very best and had their amazing Clairgate
manners evident – well done! This year we have an
outstanding 7 competitors going to the Regional
Carnival.
State Soccer Knockout Competition
A big congratulations to our Boy’s State Knockout
Soccer Team...and to their wonderful coach,
Mrs Judge. The boys played a tough match against
James Erskine Public School last week. The boys ran
out convincing 4-1 winners. A wonderful team effort
saw all boys give their best to help their team be
victorious. They are preparing for their next game –
Good Luck Boys!

pavers soon. What a lovely way for you and your
children to remember their time at Clairgate – a
lasting memory!
Just some Reminders…
Boot Sale bookings are being taken now…get

be a fun day with many stalls, food, face
painting and much more! Sat, 15th Sept, 2018
– 9.00-12.00.
No glass drink bottles allowed at school
please…this is a big safety issue for us!
No picking up or dropping off children in the
Staff Car Park without permission – certainly
those with a disabled permit are allowed to do
this.
Please ensure your child has on a jumper or
jacket in the mornings during winter. If you
wish your child to be exempt from this rule
please send me a letter regarding this.
I honestly can’t believe I have to have this next
reminder in the newsletter and I do apologise
for the 99.9% of parents this does not involve.
Many parents have reported that they continue
to see drivers doing the wrong thing around
our school…
PLEASE DO NOT PARK ILLEGALLY OR DO AN
ILLEGAL U-TURN AT THE PEDESTRIAN
CROSSING OR AT OUR SCHOOL GATES.
Thanks everyone, hope you have a kind fortnight.
Regards,
Mrs Michelle Lawrow
Principal
Clairgate – Caring, Committed, Creative
It appears that not all of our parents are aware of the Parents online payments (POP) facility that is available through the Clairgate website. The link on the webpage takes you to a secure Westpac Banking site. If you make a payment prior to 6pm the payment will appear in the schools financial statement from Westpac the following day. Payments made after 6pm do not appear until the day after e.g. payment
made at 7pm Wednesday 6th June will not appear in the schools financial statement until Friday morning, 8th June. You will notice on notes that there
is a section at the end of the permission note where you can indicate if you have made a POP payment. This is a safe, secure and convenient way for you to make payments; you do not have to find the correct
change and can do it at your leisure. A cheat sheet on how to use the site is attached later in the newsletter. Most, but not all notes are also uploaded to the website for your convenience.
District Cross Country Carnival
Well done to our wonderful 65 students who
participated at the annual St Marys District Cross
Country Carnival at The Kingsway last week. All of our
Clairgate athletes tried hard and competed well.
Clairgate’s Team is to be commended on coming 3rd
Place overall out of 12 schools at the carnival!
Ms Paulic, Mrs Roberts and Mr Blanch were very
proud of everyone’s behaviour, effort and
enthusiasm.
Thank you also to our parents and supporters who
cheered us on during the day and provided Eskys and
ice for valuable hydration.
A huge congratulations to the following students who
achieved a Top 8 place in their race and will be
representing the St Marys District team at the
Sydney-West Regional Carnival at Eastern Creek on

Sports Report
News from the office
Clairgate Goes Outdoors!
On Wednesday the 30th of May, Week 5, Stage 3 went
to Morisset Adventure Camp near Newcastle. It was
around a 2 hour drive from Clairgate to Morisset.
At 10:00am we arrived in Morisset. We were greeted
by our three camp instructors Al, Emily and Doc. For a
snack at 11:00am we had snow cones.
We all had a meeting in the meeting hall and
discussed what groups, cabins and what we were
going to be doing throughout the week.
There were four activities: Archery, Dual Flying Fox,
Canoeing, Abseiling and Challenge Ropes.
Al’s group (my group) did the Dual Flying Fox first.
It is 150m long and goes up to 50-60 km. On the first
day it really got your adrenaline pumping.
At 5:00pm we had dinner. We had spaghetti. An hour
later, at 6:00 pm, we had a night activity. It was called
County Fair. County fair is a night activity. There are
seven shops that one group of 10 kids ran. There were
shops for hair spray, face paint, cotton candy and
bakery (doughnuts). You could also do the Bungee
Run and ride the Wild Surfboard. I was in the group
which did hair spray. There were these things called
tokens. You earnt them from people coming to your
shop. You can then spend them at different stores.
We were going really well until our hairspray started
running out, but then we switched to nail painting.
Then at 7:30pm we had a campfire where Doc told
scary but funny stories. Then at 8:00pm we went to
our rooms and went to bed.
Thursday (2nd day), we woke up at 7:00am and had
breakfast which was pancakes, spaghetti, toast and
baked beans.
At 8:30am we had Multi-Climb. It had four climbing
poles, two had bars on the side, one had a rope with
knots you can climb on and there was an action movie
helicopter ladder.
2 hours later we did Archery. Unfortunately I didn’t
hit a single shot. It was fun though some of my
friends got into the grand final, and I cheered them
on.
At 3:00pm we did canoeing which was very cold. We
played Shark vs. Fish, where one team starts off as
Sharks and tries to tag other canoes which become
Sharks too.
At 5:00pm we had dinner and did Challenge night.
Challenge Night which is when you do all types of
crazy things. We tried dual foot hopping where you sit
on each other’s feet and race to a part of the room.
At 9:30pm we then went to bed.
Friday (3rd and last day), 6:30 am we had to get up. At
6:45 we had breakfast. It was the same as the second
morning.
At 7:30 we started to pack up our belongings and
started to move to our next activity, Abseiling.
We had a choice of a five metre and a ten metre wall.
Most people went on the five metre, but the
daredevils went on the ten metres. Personally I’m
afraid of heights. I just say I’m not so I sound cool.
Later that day at 1:00pm we started to load our things
on to the bus and said goodbye to the camp staff and
left for St Clair.
It was an amazing Camp overall and I hope and think
everyone that went there loved it.

Kindness has landed on Clairgate
Last week, on Tuesday 29th May, Clairgate had a
Kindness on Purpose launch and all of the Stages had
a great time in doing so. All of our students had a sing
along. Kindergarten sang ‘You Got a Friend in me’,
Stage 1 sang ‘Kindness Counts’, Stage 2 sang ‘Kindness
is a Muscle’ and Stage 3 sang ‘You Can Count on me’.
After our sing along we had a guest whose name was
Katrina Cavanough and she gave a wonderful speech
on Kindness. She told us how she was delighted that
Kindness is spreading across the globe.
After the sing along, the parents went to the library
and sat down with Katrina to discuss more Kindness
and how it affects people. Back in class we read a few
books about kindness and discussed heavy and light
feelings. We then felt some sandpaper and our
teacher said how every time someone hurts your
feelings it’s like being scratched by it.
We then discussed how when someone says
something nice to us it’s like feeling a cotton ball nice
and soft. 56A’s favourite book was called ‘The
Invisible Boy’. It was about a boy called Brian who was
never included so he thought that he was invisible but
then a new kid came to school.
Student Reviews
He became Brian’s best friend. He started including
Brian. Then after a while Brian wasn’t so invisible
anymore. At the end of the day the whole school
learnt a lot about kindness and how it affects people’s
feelings.

fashion the Universe today.

Speaker – Dr Nick Tothill
Stars like our sun are still being formed all around us in our Galaxy, although they're
sometimes hard to see. Some of them are going to be like our own Sun, some of them will
be smaller, and some will be much, much bigger. I'll talk about new stars and the places we
can see them, and what this means for our understanding of our Sun and our place in the
Galaxy.
